How many here actually still believe that there is a God??
by annalice inafter being gone from the jw's for many years now , and having done extensive research on the history of god and the belief in him , i can't seem to find any logical way to have a belief in an invisble being up there ruling over us.
how many here still believe?
how many don't?.

Religion? Leaving a cult opens up your mind a little bit. To the point that no religion can sustain it.

The Issues...Why do most people take such an inflexible stand?
by Nazgul innow that ive left the borg im making up my mind about many social issues and i cant see why people have to be so polarized.
abortion- i dont think we should tell women what to do with their bodies (so im pro-choice there), but i think late term abortions where they just chop the head of a fully developed unborn baby are criminal.
(so im with pro-lifers there).

Now that I’ve left the Borg I’m making up my mind about many social issues and I can’t see why people have to be so polarized.
For example:
Abortion- I don’t think we should tell women what to do with their bodies (so I’m pro-choice there), but I think late term abortions where they just chop the head of a fully developed unborn baby are criminal. (so I’m with pro-lifers there).
Gun control- I agree with the right to bear arms for protection, sport, hunting, etc. (go NRA) but don’t see a problem with a ten day waiting period so a full background check can be performed and having people go through a course and get licensed and have child locks for safety (which the NRA is against).
The war. I hate what’s going on over in Iraq, think things might have been done differently, and I want us out of there as soon as possible, but I’m not blind to the fact that Saddam was a butcher, that gassed entire villages of Kurdish people within his own country and was not making things easier for inspectors and could not account for many weapons which he said had been destroyed but could not show proof. That he attempted to annex a neighboring country 10 years before etc. etc. etc..and something had to be done.
I guess, my observation is that it is quite hard to stay within a middle ground. Its easier to put a label on ourselves and call ourselves, for example, conservative or liberals and simply agree with everything they say. Even religion has a tendency to embrace only way of thinking and see everyone else’s as irrelevant. Does anyone agree we all need to be a little more open minded.

Bodily training useful for many things...
by FMZ inas some of you may know, i work nights as a network technician.
this means i sit for about 8 hours, alone, watching 12 screens to see if anything goes red.
if it does, then i start making phone calls and troubleshooting.

I'm into Low Volume Weight Training and it works great for me. It's like this: One warm up set, one heavy set (sometimes to failure) per exercise. Two to four exercises per muscle group, depending on the muscle group. Never more than two heavy sets per exercise. I train with weights one day, and rest two. On weight training day I work on one upper body and one lower body muscle group. On the off days I do cardio, running or sports or simply rest. I find that I can get as much done with a couple of heavy sets as with multiple sets per exercise although, a good overall diet is the most important thing, I think.

Introduction
by indoubt ini am new to this discussion forum and i wanted to introduce myself.

Welcome to the board!
My wife and I went through a similar situation, but it happened before we got married. Even though we had put a stop to it two months before, she got a sudden attack of conscience and decided to talk to an elder about our "pornea" (We did not have sex before marriage, just got a little carried away from time to time).
We faced a judicial committee. They were ruthless. The elders asked about all the details. They even questioned us separately so we did not know exactly what the other had revealed. They wanted to know why we had not come to them sooner. They questioned many other aspects of our life that had nothing to do with the matter being discussed. They made us feel like the worst sinners on earth. They said we should get married immediately without delay, which I found ridiculous. We were privately reproved and were put on full restrictions for about a year. They did not let us get married at the Kingdumb Hall. (Something I'm grateful for now).
My advise to you is get your stories straight. Sit down and talk to your wife before you go before the JC. Try to make her understand that she is not an unrepentant sinner. That whatever happens and whatever they tell her she should not feel dirty or ashamed. Those expressions of affection were born out of the love, passion and affection you felt for each other, legitimized by the fact that you are still united. Even if they got a little out of hand they were not malicious. Help her understand its only natural behavior between a man and a woman that feel a deep attraction to each other.
By the way, if you can, ask the elders in the JC if they ever got hot and heavy with their wives before marriage. I always thought I should have done that ;-)

Letting babies who need blood die needlessly is evil.
Years ago, before you were born, they were against organ transplants. People died. That was evil.
A few decades ago they were against hemophiliac preparations (made from blood components) now they allow them. For years hemophiliacs died needlessly. Evil.
Before our time, they were against vaccines. Children died from preventable deseases. Very evil.
In the 60's scores of brothers and sisters in Malawi were raped, beaten, persecuted and killed because the society would not let them register with the ruling party. At the same time the brothers in Mexico routinely avoided mandatory military service by bribing their local officials. A practice known by the society. Inconsistently Evil.
Currently, their policy requires two witnesses in cases of child abuse before a body of elders. That never happens, hence, sexual predators go unpunished. Horribly Evil.
Some people leave the witnesses simply because they no longer believe. They are disfellowshipped and cut away from their dear family. Just for changing their minds. This to me is very evil.
They have made their organization the mediator between man and god. When the bible clearly says that the mediator is Jesus. Taking the place of Jesus is evil.
I could go on and on... but I'm not sure you're really listening or what would be better yet, looking into it.

Strawberry asked:
Nazgul....I love your name! Are you a Lord of the Rings fan??
Why yes, I am. Huge fan. I have to say that fantasy sometimes helps us escape a sad reality. The last couple of years have been traumatic. Trying to leave a religion in which I no longer believe without loosing my family, helping my wife deal with being abused as a child within the organization, starting a new life from scratch. All this things going on at the same time can drive you crazy, or make you bitter. I use LOTR as an escape. Well, that and working out at the gym. Everyone needs an escape valve.

Newby here! I've posted before, but never really introduced myself. Sorry, I have no social skills. I've been fading for a few years, was able to get my wife out. She is one of the many silent lambs out there. Information from this forum has helped us immensely. I'm now trying to get the rest of the family out. One thing I was able to do was to share information with two family members who were disfellowshipped under the most unfair circumstances. These people thought that they were not good enough for god and unworthy of his organization. I'm happy I was able to share the truth about "the troof" with them.
Anyway, not all lurkers are spies. Some of us are just a little shy.

I'm new to this forum. A few months ago, I purchased a CD called "Dictionary of Watchtower Documents" from an anti-cult religious organization called McGregor Ministries:
http://www.macgregorministries.org/jehovahs_witnesses/dicwtdocs/dicwtdocs.html
It has .pdf scans of the actual documents which when printed look just like a copy of the original WT publication. I includes a variety of topics including 1975. I used the printouts to talk to my family while I went home for vacation. However, nothing impressed them more that seeing pictures of pastor Russell's grave site, which I printed off other websites I found like:
