Science is right in its details, but wrong in its direction
by exWTslave inscience observes, studies and analyses the basic nature of all the components constituting the part of any experiment, follows the principle of cause and effect, and come out with equipments that would contribute to our comfort and save us lots of time and energyall of which are ultimately aimed at making life on this earth happier, longer and healthier, thus making this world a better place to live.. yet man day-by-day becomes more and more unhappy and discontented, and world is becoming bitter and bitter!
it means: though science is right in its details, it has gone wrong in its direction.
it failed to rightly judge and assess the true nature of its prime object (man) for whom it works.

First of all I find this thread hard to read to the circle it keeps gong in.
Materilism is outdated and unscientific for the reason that this philosephy belives there is nothing beyond the things you can touch or see... since this is against scientici obervation or things like energy and quarks and the multiverse we must trash it.
In the same trash can goes theology though!
Now PHYSICALISM is more open a philoshephy that keeps up with science.
I am not a Physicalist and like me not all athests are physicalists. However I understand the philosephy.
As for spirit this is ignorance of Hebrew and Greek.
Spirit as used in Genesis 1:2 and onwards means breath or wind. I think you need to redifine spirit. lol

Service meeting week of November 3rd! How to indoctrinate children
by stuckinarut2 inoh yep...here we go..... this weeks service meeting has a part designed to show how children should be indoctrinated and manipulated into going "out in service".
the part first asks for the disturbingly corny cartoon clip to be played on the big screen at the halls: "lets go out in service!".
(if you haven't watched it yet, please go to jw.org and watch it....you simply won't beleive it until you see it!).

Sadly it IS child abuse!
I have on my youtube channel 60 videos or so why a child should NOT be exposed to the bible.*
No one should chose a religion until they are of legal age.
* Teenagers SHOULD read the bible. Western Culture, history and poetics being the reason.

One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!
by AndDontCallMeShirley ini heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.
"rent/extortion) were even met.
$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

Today's watchtower. Why no emphasis on doctrine?
by kneehighmiah ini believe the jws are morphing into a mainstream social religious group.
we've long been taught we had the truth due to our suoerior doctrine.
it appears that the gb knows that their teachings are ludicrous and indefensible.

I have to disagree ocean the have intorduced the rapture to JWs and the idea of a 7 or 8 man governing body based on Micah.
Also the most recent article on creation said animals change over time.
The JWs are following Catholics

Jesus Christ's horrible death
by Crazyguy init amazes me how much thinking one does when you're out of the cult.
i mean another thread got me thinking about the story of jesus death.
so adam breaks a little test lives for 900 plus years and then dies of natural causes.

Read any passion narritive of the time it would be gory and brutal. Mel Gibson got one thing right... the suffering of condemned men. If you were and onlooker and were theorizing how a cosmic Jesus would die this is the best way you would think at the time. The Acension of Isaiah has the story of Jesus long before the gospels.

1. Josephus lived from 37 to around 100 CE. In his works he mentions every detail evn if it's hearsay. For instance we KNOW from him the 4 sects of Judasm at the time and Christians are NOT amoung them. He does however mention a small sect which is likely a Logoos-Philo sect. (To throw the christians a bone)
2. In War of the Jews he claims a Cow gave birth to a sheep......<<<< Okay.... he liked oral stories.
3. He refers to himself as Josephus in his accounts, Not I, thus assuming the role of a hero in the story.
4. Suicidal. He wasn't. But he made other commit suicide while he watched. It's in his account.
5. He claims a guy named Jesus preached Jerusalems destruction around 69-70 and was crushed by a rock... I am starting to doubt this sotyr it sounds like an ealry Jesus legend he borrowed via oral traditions from philo's Logos cult.
6. Titus and his we buddies. and the men he went to see were Simon and John and James the brother of Jesus the high preist.... why do I think Galatians chapter 12 is a forgery? ... because the only one who could have those names in those places was Jospehus in 69-70... Galatians was a rehash of several of his works I think. (By Marcionites)
7. This guy had 3 failed marriagesd... the first I will admit she died in Jerusalem.. and her husnamd a friend of Titus didn't once bargin for her life?... A$$hole!
8. The people that liked his books were Romans and Christians. They were the copiests.
9. I don't belive he was a Pharisee.
10. Luke-Acts relies on his works... this only goes to show his writings preceeded them.
So many here in the last week quoated Jospephus... I do often to but only when i'm sure it's a fact... 50% of what he wrote was not fact and to add to it so many forgeries like John the Baptist and Jesus were added

Did Josephus believe in Jesus as The Christ?
by opusdei1972 inhere is the questioned josephus' text :.
now, there was about this time jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful worksa teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure.
he drew over to him both many of the jews, and many of the gentiles.

The referance to John the Baptist as well breaks his line of thought and his comment of Herod's palace in the paragraph CONTRADICTS the previous statements of Herod only a few paragraphs earlier... John the Baptist too is a forgery
