If it's ok to be starkers in front of a doctor, then isn't it also ok to be starkers in front of an artist or photographer? Surely they are all professionals;and if it isn't alright then WT please cut the illogical double standards.

According to JWs' application of Acts 15:29, shouldn't they also be refusing medical examinations by gynecologists?
by Island Man inwatchtower uses the following twisted logic to equate receiving a blood transfusion, with feeding on blood:.
feeding is sometimes done by injecting nutrients intravenously.. blood transfusions are carried out by injecting blood intravenously.. therefore the intravenous injecting of blood can be equated with feeding intravenously.. hence, true christians refuse blood transfusions in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from blood".. now notice how the same kind of twisted logic leads to the equating of an invasive examination by a gynecologist, with sexual intercourse:.
sexual intercourse is often done by inserting the penis into the vagina.. certain invasive examinations by a gynecologist is done by inserting an instrument into the vagina.. therefore such invasive gynecological examinations can be equated with sexual intercourse.. hence, true christians refuse such gynecological examinations that are performed by someone to whom they're not married, in order to obey the biblical command to "abstain from fornication".. it's the same kind of twisted reasoning, isn't it?

Food For Thought
by Yondaime inandre gide its is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.. the words of wisdom from the deceased french author echo through my mind every day, and they make me think, would the people in my congregation give me their unconditional love if i was not doing well in the congregation spiritually?.
spiritually as in giving well in the congregation, making nice comments, doing parts in the service meeting, reading during the book study on stage, working at the literature counter, and recently becoming a servant.. of the 20 or so young ones in the hall only me and 4 others are progressing spiritually.
ive seen the way brothers and sisters have treated those in the hall that arent progressing and dont take the truth seriously.

Welcome Yondaime. The society is quick to tell people not to lean upon their own understanding. They only say this when people are doing something they don't like. Your understanding looks perfectly good to me. Enjoy your university years.

I would find that difficult to believe HB, were it not for an experience which marked me deeply when I was 13 (1971). At school, I threw an ordinary tennis ball at an ordinary speed towards a classmate who had just thrown the ball to me. She looked away at the last moment and the ball struck her on the temple and knocked her out. This was scary, but she appeared to recover until later on that day she collapsed and was rushed to hospital suffering from a brain haemmorage.
She survived, but damage had been done to the optical nerves and I was informed that she would be totally blind in a few year's time. I was flattened by the guilt and horror of what I had done, and although I had a parent I could never confide in (due to the fact that she is still the most vicious, violent, mad, obscene, perverse, utterly sick human-being I have ever encountered), I broke down in tears and told her what had happened. An elder was present at the time, decorating our living room, and he nodded sagely as Mother Dearest replied, " She's going to die at Armageddon anyway, what does it matter if she goes blind first?"
Bloody hell!

I had never heard of WT Examination and have just watched a few of them. Admirable. Thank-you for mentioning it.
On the subject of blood, I had always got the impression, via independant thought of course, that the command to Noah was not so much about the red stuff per se, but stressing the respect we should show to animal life. I can recall sisters doing their shopping, ardently perusing the list of ingredients in case of sneaky blood products, but these same people wouldn't think twice about buying eggs from battery chicken farms, or similar.
When I pointed out to various bros that Jehovah would not allow a stonking great ox to get tired or bored walking around a threshing stone, so what must he think of veal crates etc. I was told that if Jehovah wanted us to make a stand on cruelty to animals, there would be a WT about it. Expletive deleted.

Tamar was not a harlot, so Judah did not commit fornication
by opusdei1972 inthis is a portion of what the insight book says about the affair between judah and tamar:.
therefore, subsequent to judahs becoming a widower, tamar, on learning that her father-in-law was going to timnah, disguised herself as a prostitute and then seated herself at the entrance of enaim on the road judah would be traversing.
not recognizing his daughter-in-law and assuming her to be a prostitute, judah had relations with her.

So if Jesus was on the TV prog. "Who do you think you are?" he'd find out something racy about one of his human forbears.

Can anyone disprove 607 BCE date using only the NWT and WT literature?
by Bart Belteshassur ini haven't come across any arguement that does not involve secular history and external references.
in fact the wt can not get to 607 bce without using external sources as in knowing that they need to get back from 1914 ce to 607 bce, and botching an argument using an external date as reference to create their start point at 537 bce.. i realize that to get the final date we must provide a fixed figure from somewhere which can only be a historical source, but the objective would be to disprove the wt flim flam.
once that is achieve we can use which ever fixed historical point they wish to chose.

This is not a scriptural source, but has anyone read The Gentile Times Reconsidered by Carl Olof Jonsson? Or does anyone remember the shirty comment in a KM circa 1980 about, " some brothers are even writing their own chronologies?" This book is one of the finest pieces of research I've come across on the subject and the Swedish brother's story, briefly outlined in the preface will come as no surprise to most of us. I highly recommend this book.
PS Yes of course he was disfellowshipped. The dirty dealings of the society in this case really disgusted me.

as my name would suggest i have been reading your intriguing post, thoughts and discussions for some time now.
around 3/4 months to be exact.. i guess to start with it would seem fitting to give a little background on my current situation.. i'm a born-in, but have over the last few years found that through a number of varying occurences, (some of which i may discuss in future posts) that my 'zeal' has gone from regular field service and meetings to no service in over a year and very sporadic meeting attendance.

The Evolution of Jesus presence moving from 1874 to 1914?
by Crazyguy ini'm trying to get an accurate understanding of when and how they moved jesus invisible presence from 1874 to 1914. i guess officially it wasn't until 1943 but it seems that they were talking about it and writing about the change as early as 1925?
please enlighten me on how and why they made the change.
i wish to be able to explain this accurately to my daughter.

Correction rjharris, it was neither Barbour nor Russell who originated 1914 as the end of the gentile times. It was an Englishman called John Aquila Smith in 1810. I am now going to rake through my dusty tomes, to find a reference for you. Watch this space. Got to go out first with He Who Must be Walked Right now-or he'll knock the door down.
