Christopher Hitchens has a brother Peter, who is a very strong committed Christian and has written articles opposing his brothers beliefs.

The Portable Atheist - Christopher Hitchens
by portcontrol7 ini'm slowly making my way through this strangely titled (portable isn't the first adjective that comes to mind when looking at this book) tome of atheistic thought throughout the past 2 millennia.
most of the samplings come from the past few centuries, but it begins with some writings by lucretius and omar khayyam.
this book is a delight and a must have for an atheist who wishes to see the progression of atheism over the centuries, as well as some of the most damning polemics against the illogic of faith.

Do the JWS realize they have the blood of children covering their hands ?
by Homerovah the Almighty inits a hypothetical suggestion but its one worth consideration, its interesting when you discuss the blood issue with a jw that it seems.
that they are in complete denial that bt have save millions of peoples lives since its been instituted as a medical practice for the last 50 years.. perhaps its because of their indoctrination that they can't think clearly on the subject, the fear takes over and what you hear from them is the most stupid of things.. this situation in my opinion if the biggest of crimes this false cult as imprinted into the minds of its followers.. when these assholes told people that receiving an organ transplant was evil and then reversing that decision latter on just reeks of corruption.. a powerful organization like this which does not have any forbearing authority governing over its actions is a very dangerous organization indeed !.

I have always viewed those JWs who have died because they refused blood as nothing more that human sacrifices.
Thw WT have always condemned past pagan religions who practised human sacrifice. Even pointing out that Jehovah condemns such a practice.
Yet telling members that they must die, to please Jehovah, when there is no need to. Is a form of human sacrifice.

Marrying Outside the Organization
by cameo-d inthe leader of the oshkosh salvation army is packing up and preparing to leave the community he served.. captain johnny harsh is suspended and will most likely be terminated from his position.
it's because he's planning to marry someone outside the organization.. back in june, his wife died unexpectedly.
now he's engaged to a woman who isn't affiliated with the salvation army, and that is against salvation army rules.. by talking to the media, captain harsh knows he could lose his current suspension pay but he's taking a stand, saying the rules need changing.. "the archaic rules of the salvation army are man-made, not god-made.

You will probably find that most denominations have in some form or another similar rules.
My mother was Salvation Army , but she married an Anglican church member. That was back in the 1930's.
I've known Catholics looked down on because they married a Protestant.
I have known JWs marry non-JWs, and have been treated ok.
The thing of course is that this Salvation Army guy was an officer in the SA organisation.
Therefore he would be expected to set the example and follow the rules.
I wouldn't have been surprised if he had been an ordinary member of the SA no one would have said a word.

We often used to have other JWs to have a meal, at least once a month. Even those who had children.
In 25 years probably count on one hand the number who ever invited us.

The questions is were is any increase coming from?
I asked my non-JW daughter who lives with her JW mother to see if she can find how many were baptised in the congregation.
She called me yesterday saying her mother said it was 5 in the past year, all the children of JWs. She reckons that they have not had anyone from the "outside" , a person called on and had a study etc, for about 3-4 years.
I'm still waiting to find out what the number is for this all time peak.
Nearly for got to mention, the congregation is now smaller than when I left 7 years ago.

I've been asking people I know in streets around were I live. Not one of them has had a tract. Yet the Kingdom Hall is just up the road from me.
I have asked in the church I attend, a congregation of nearly 300, that covers probably the territory of 4 JW congregations. So far not one person has said that they have had such a tract.

JW's and Others Take Heed - Child Abuse is Masked Behind Respectability
by flipper init's well been stated before when a pedophile has been found out molesting someone's child that friends and family can't believe how the allegedly "joe the respectable " friend , father, pastor, elder or ms , could possibly be molesting a child !
2 cases in point here in the sacramento, california area .
the first case a stepfather just committed murder-suicide on himself, his wife, and 2 small children .

Yes its all very well saying watch out for JW molesters or Catholic priests or whatever relgion.
But they don't account for the many more thousands of cases of child abuse.
It is often said that a child abuser is more likely to be a member of ones own family. Fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins etc and sometimes not always just the males.
Many pedophiles will wait a very long time before making any move on a child. "Grooming" as they call it winning the childs trust, and the familys trust as well. Such ones are quite willing to let themselves be "checked out" by the childs parents.
Those like JWs and priest have an advantage in that they are seen by the child very often, in circumstances and environment were they are supposed to be safe.
"That brother/priest is such a nice man, my parents think the best of him. I'll be ok spending time with him."
My family was very friendly with an Elder and his family. we had known them for years. They were in a different congregation to us so we only saw them occasionally.
But it wasn't the Elder, the father, that was the problem but as it turned out it was their teenage son.
Fortunately nothing happened with my own children.
But suddenly this family upped and moved away. I think the excuse was that the father had got a job in another part of the country.
But a 2-3 years on and the son was caught out molesting a child. Also he knew a JW Elder who also had been caught abusing children and had been for 14 years!

According to the December 2008 Kingdom Ministry Jehovah's Witnesses reached an all time peak number of publishers and pioneers in August 2008.
Well if it does, why didn't you give us the number?
As has already been said I know how the Service Overseer would run round at the end of August getting every one who was anyone, to put a report in. As he used to say "Its the end of the Service year and the report to Bethel must look good." I often recall him chasing up elderly sisters to "just put a couple of hours down". Also if you you had missed the months before report and you put two in, say one for 5 hours in July and one for 5 hours in August, it got counted as TWO publishers reporting and as 10 hours service in August. Now you only need say 6 publishers doing that and it would mean 12 publishers reporting double hours. He certainly knew a few ways to massage the figures.

Considering the thousands of innocent people who are already on a DNA database in Britain. This is just a sideline.
