lately in my research on the subject of the feasability of taking the bible literally, i ran across this very interesting article about the flood.

having read "seven006" posting "the information age and new jw marketing changes" and the view it put forward of were the watchtower found itself now.. i was wondering what the 2004 service year report would show.
i think there will be a small increase, due to there play on world events and the usually jw family members getting baptised to please parents etc.
anyone else have any views on what it could be.

watchtower chronology suffers from weak logical links.
after all, they start with an unproven premise and begin linking and linking and linking and suddenly they produce the rabbit out of the hat.
1914 is the rabbit .
Didn't Russell predict that Jesus would return in 1874 and that Armageddon would be finished by 1914.
It wasn't until years after 1914 that they took that date for Jesus return.
i've been going through my wt 2003 and 1995 cd-rom's looking for articles on the freemasons in any wt publication.. there doesn't seem to be much from 1950 onwards only basically passing references.. but there are 8 references from 1930 to 1958 all in the awake magazine.
which of course are not on the cd's.. does anyone know what these articles are.. especially an article in the awake 22nd march 1958 which was 4 pages long.

when you stop believing the bible to be the word of god the motives behind the actions of gods prophets and followers come across rather differently.
in fact much like fundlmentlists today.you have joshua comiting genocide , and paul moving in and tacking control of the christians and changing the religion to his own beliefs.
which other characters actions can be interpreted differenly when you see them just as ordinary humans with more selfish motives?
Why presume that I don't believe the Bible anymore just because I'm no longer a JW.
The two Elders, unkown to each other, who showed me from the Bible that Jesus was God. Then would stand on the platform and say he wasn't.
The Elder who went on about how we shouldn't watch 18 rated films. Then one night his son showed me a cupboard full of them at his home.
The married Ministerial Servant aged 25, also a pioneer, who was held up as an example to the youth of the congregation. Then was discovered to be having affairs with three women on his window cleaning round. (not all at the same time)
The two JW brothers who were full time pioneers. They said they were going to share a two bed-roomed apartment together to keep their costs down. They lived together for about 4-5 years then it was discovered it may have been a two-bedroomed apartment, but they were only using the one bed!! Turned out they had been having gay sex with each other, since they were 15/16 now they were 28/29.
Then there were the brothers and sisters who were alcoholics, but it was kept quiet.
All this in my 25 years as a JW.

I work for a security firm in Britain. Recently all the security in ports around Britain has been tightened up.
We had to attend a course to bring us up to date on what these arrangements are.
There the person taking the course told us that from intelligence reports (mind you what do they count for these days) the next target for terrorists could be a cruise ship. It seems terrorist have a number of ships (they say) sailing round the world. That they plan to stop a cruise ship or even sink one with missiles. Prime targets are those they sail out of Florida and round the Caribbean.
How true this is who can tell. But there again no one thought anyone would fly a plane into a skyscraper.

Boy! Haven't album covers changed and we thought they were so great back then.
I wouldn't be surprised if we could find some album covers around today that are just as bad.
I think if TINO and "Por Primera Vez" were around today. I think he would have a huge gay fan base. Maybe he did back then??
