WT Society Makes Light of Child Abuse Crimes by Portraying them as Cartoons
by flipper ini commented on this on another thread- but i believe this has enough importance to create a thread about this situation in and of itself.
at the current district convention as you know the wt society released a " sophie & caleb " video allegedly warning parents about the dangers of child abuse.
they don't really use the words " child abuse " in the video - but just say if " someone tries to touch you in a manner you aren't comfortable with " and portray it as a cartoon !

BOC, the conscience line got to me too. How it even occurred to them to appeal to kid's CONSCIENCE, I'll never understand. Common sense or intuition are much better alternatives, these are things a child or adult can use to judge a situation not necessarily avoid guilt. Bringing one's one morality and integrity into it by invoking the conscience adds a weight that a child does NOT need to bear in case he or she is unsuccessful in fending off an attack. Just. Ridiculous. -

Anthony Morris III: "...we cannot control everything that an individual might say..."
by cappytan ini noticed that anthony morris iii just said on the broadcast: "while we cannot control everything that an individual might say, it is clear that over the decades protecting children from abuse is a top priority for this organization.".
that, in my opinion, is a direct response to the richard ashe "spiritual protection not physical protection" deposition.. here's a video putting the two statements side by side.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgevpuyn7gy.

"Evidently" confirmation bias can make you believe whatever you want to, Nitty-Gritty.
In my direct observation and experience, elders have had to go rogue from what the legal and service department were telling them in order to keep pedophiles from grooming children right inside the KH.
Really. Legal said "keep watching him and warn the parents." The parents are idiots who let this guy hug and kiss their kids, constantly, during the meeting. As if after doing that all of our hands would be tied until there's an accusation. I gained a lot of respect for the COBE when he lost patience with this and threatened the man so strongly he was "stumbled" and didn't come to a meeting for 6 months. Now he's at 1 of 3 meetings and minds his p's and q's.
In this case, wishful thinking and a waiting attitude didn't get things done. Acting according to one's conscience did.

To Blue Dot or Not to Blue Dot. That is the question ....
by Oubliette inso i've been noticing recently that some khs in the area where i live (socal) are putting up the jw.org little blue dot, but others are not.

Actually they finally managed to get their hands on it as of May 13, 2015.

Watchtower withdrew their petition to cancel JW Player's trademark because the two parties had entered negotiations to settle, and apparently this is the result. Who knows how much they paid out. Look for a little "R" to appear in place of the "TM" on the JW.ORG logo just like it does next to Watchtower and Awake on the inside covers of the magazines.

Songs celebrating leaving the faith? Not being a puppet, mind controlled, living life, etc etc
by aley63 ini am looking for some songs that are in ref to celebrating leaving, seeing the light, realizing what you were told wasnt right, being happy w your life, etc etc.
all those emotions about being controlled and repressed, being told what you can feel or think or how to live, blindly following the "brotherhood ".

The Who - I'm Free
I'm free, I'm free
And freedom tastes of reality
I'm free, I'm free
And I'm waiting for you to follow meIf I told you what it takes to reach the highest high
You'd laugh and say, "Nothing's that simple"
But you've been told many times before
Messiahs pointed to the door
No one had the guts to leave the templeI'm free, I'm free
And freedom tastes of realityI'm free, I'm free
And I'm waiting for you to follow meHow can we follow?
How can we follow? -

"I'll get her out, she's worth the wait."
I feel the same way towards mine. The organization, like so many others, intercepts people's naturally occurring good will and shamelessly uses it for its own ends. Once freed, my wife would most likely volunteer or do social work or counseling in some place where she can make a real difference. Just one reason to be patient with TTATT.

I Went Into "Cult Mode" The Other Day..
by humblepotato inif you recall, i'm just coming to grips with ttatt and atheism after a few years of doubts.
made a long post around here, a while ago, talking about the very subject.
but, anyways.... so the other day, my wife was telling me how she was just exhausted and "peopled out.

I know what you mean... I'm still in and have known TTATT for years, and am still very active in spite of it. I was given a "bible study" by an elder and try to keep it open and free of dogma but sometimes when I'm talking Cult Mode kicks in like autopilot leaving me wondering afterward "what did I just say? What's wrong with me??"
My wife gets fed up with the insensitive treatment dished out to her by others in the congregation, getting very discouraged at times. She doesn't get that no other group of people feels such license to overstep boundaries. Hell, they all go tell strangers in the territory how to live their lives how much more with the Friends. I'll say something about getting peace through holy spirit, knowing it's probably just within ourselves if we want it.

Injected Buddhist teachings into Watchtower Study today
by cappytan inon the paragraph about meditation in today's study, i gave a comment about "meditating with a view towards mindfulness and awareness of the positive things in our lives.".
afterwards, about 8 people that i rarely talk to in the congregation came up and expressed how much they appreciated that point.. wanted to say, "thank the buddha.
" but didn't have the guts.

Bravo, Cappytan. I managed to mention that Paul did not submit his expenses to the congregation that he was visiting, but was simply grateful for what they gave naturally out of love and faith. Too many CO receipts had crossed my desk as accounts servant to not mention it. -

What a post, Muddy Waters. Being still in, an MS and knowing TTATT i can only hope my efforts to wake up my wife result in her one day being able to look back and say what you said. Right now I can strongly attest to control she has with the full force of the org. behind her. As soon as I make some progress with her with a little nugget of TTATT, someone in a headship-circumventing way encourages her about US pursuing some Spiritual Goal and it's all undone. Then she's all gung-ho about that new spiritual milestone. And wonders why I am not. Anyway, thank you. Your perspective and the 180 degree shift you've experienced gives me hope.

Before knowing TTATT did you really believe in things as...
by roberto avon indid you really believe in things as ;- the earth is only 6000 years old- the 144.000- 1914, based upon the destructiono of jerusalem- harmagheddon or the end of the world coming soon???
?i married a jw when i was an interested person and studying with the jw's ( not the way they wanted) but i told my wife before marrying her that " most probably " i would never have been a jw.she accepted me as i was and married me.
after that i had interrupted the study for one year, i started all over again with an elder of my wife's cong.

1914, yes. Because, you know, World War I. Then, when I could grasp it, the "seven times". Wow! So accurate!
Also, the literal interpretation of the flood. Because, you know, flowers under the permafrost and the mammoth with food still in his mouth. Not that these are necessarily WT explanations, I'd have to look it up. This is how it was explained to me when I was very young and I accepted these "facts" without question, until the day many years later when I knew too much to still believe it. Ironically, what changed my mind on it for good was when a very young MS gave a public talk about the flood and kept insisting that "the flood was real". Although he had some interesting "proofs" I hadn't heard before, by the end of it I realized there was no way it could have actually happened. The poor guy would be mortified to know he had had that effect on one of his listeners.
