My story of becoming a circuit overseer after Kin Suen visited our congregation.
by ExCircuitOverseer inhere is my story of becoming a missionary after having kin suen (pronounced “shin”) as my circuit overseer.
my father wanted me to go to college, but since he wasn’t a witness, i knew he just didn’t understand how close we were to the end.
i had actually become a circuit overseer!

I'm glad you're back on the board, ex-co. It took strength of character to leave when your eyes opened.
It takes years to re-examine everything you believed and absorbed from Watchtower. It can feel a bit lonely at first when leaving your tribe, and it takes time to adjust.
3rd gen and I wish you a great 2025 from Northern California! :)

Take anything Watchtower says with a huge chunk of salt.
In times past the JW designation meant something. An ACTIVE (preaching and attending) member who held a set group of beliefs including; future life on earth in a paradise.
WT used to be proud of this difference in comparison to mainstream religions which count all nominal 1x per year attenders or donators.

Reddit thread - ‘Organization Finally Suggesting to Plan for Retirement’
by LongHairGal inthis information is supposed to be in the upcoming march wt.
(i don’t go on jw dot org).
it would sound like they are hinting at a change in thinking.. in my opinion, any such change would be yet another slap in the face to faithful pimis along with those other recent changes.. there are so many heartfelt responses on that thread and a lot of justified anger.. don’t know what to say except that i’m so glad i never listened to the religion all those years ago.

Finance education is great. Budgeting education, simple math, and escaping cult mind control are what is needed by most people.

Cedar Point, Ohio.....World famous...for....zip. They had a big roller coaster back then. I used to pester mom and the bookstudy about this when I was 10.....in the 60s.
More wasted time about a bronze age dream that only one guy had.
Chalk this up to a 20th-century charlatan.

"Yahweh" pronunciation is more correct (w60 8/1 pp. 453-455)
by psyco in.
https://wol.jw.borg/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1960561 (substitute .borg with .org)furthermore, today in every jw publication the tetragrammaton is rendered as yhwh which is more preserved by yahweh than by jehovah..

Does it matter?
Do we have any idea of how bronze-age goatherders pronounced anything?
Where are the "two or more witnesses" to confirm the stories?

Just another sad tale of a youth wasted with Watchtower. :(
PS. While I was at Bethel in the 70s overseas Branch Overseers were brought back for various meetings and training.
I was excited to have a few work in my department for a few hours each day. I was expecting some Bible scholars! They were all formerly in the circuit work, Gilead Grads, etc. Yikes, was I disappointed. Half had little formal, or bible education. All could recite Watchtower Dogma verbatim, but had trouble reasoning with underlying biblical principles, and everyday work requirements, and even argued with visiting writing staff & GB members (unsuccessfully) during coffee breaks.
Sadly, Gilead is no substitute for College, in preparing for the real world. All investments of youth, time, money, and life in Watchtower are a waste. :(

HOW TO BE LOYAL TO JEHOVAH
by liam ina post from another exjw site, shows how throughout the years, in a regular, systematic fashion, the watchtower has influence thoroughly; an ideological point of view, in the minds of it’s members by using bible scriptures and examples, to get the members to do the unthinkable, even if it clashes with modern ethics.
february 2016 watchtower, paragraph 3 of the article titled .
"learn from jehovah’s loyal servants".

Way beyond "modern ethics". Felonies. Child rape, domestic violence, Child abuse, Senior financial abuse. Perjury. Conspiracy. Witness tampering.

AH....." perception," "conscience of the congregation," and the slippery Watchtower phrases some elders use for "depends on who you are. "If we don't like you, it's wrong".
I remember a sweet mousy sister who was an engineer working on the moon lander vehicle. The new CO targeted her for "working for a defense contractor"—Lockheed. Meanwhile, a few miles down the road in Silicon Valley, an ex-cop elder was the head of Security for a 100% Defense Contractor, giving keynote talks at Conventions and conducting electronic eavesdropping on Watchtower "enemies" at the behest of Don Adams at Bethel. It all depends on who you are.

In the 1960s I was told I would never graduate High School or get married because Armageddon would be here BY 1975. If you believed this "prophecy" you did not plan or save for the future. Education, home ownership, retirement savings, children, business planning were all impacted.
I have been retired for years now. Many true believers I knew from the 70s are DEAD, crippled, or BROKE. One ex-Special Pioneer I know is homeless and a public beggar. A former Elder and Bethel roommate died in poverty this week in a mountain shack. A 75-year-old window-washing Elder friend fell to his death on the job last year. Another "need greater " pioneer-elder friend rents a room in his twilight years. Meanwhile...Governing Body 3.0 lives in luxury in their gated compound sporting Rolex watches, gold pinky rings, and jetting around the world begging for MOOOORE Money.
For MOST people....not Jehovah's Witnesses....Retirement planning is simple 6th-grade math...save x dollars per month for 40 years @ x % to last your last 30 years. Time and compound interest solve the retirement issue...IF.....you are not blinded by a greedy doomsday cult. :(
