I think LT is on to something. Even though I may call the Divine by many names, and pray to them as individuals, I can't shake the feeling that they are all just aspects of one infinitely complex deity. This is just my opinion.

I don't know that I'd want to stay there forever, but I'd sure love to visit 17 from time to time. I had my own apartment, no curfew, guys in their 30's hittin' on me, a cool job at a taco stand where I got to play my Prince, Corey Hart, and Cyndi Lauper tapes all night while my boss smoked reefer in the john. I wore too much makeup, dyed my hair a hideous shade of red, and hung out in a pretentious coffehouse all day, reading bad poetry I bought from street people. When I got hungry, I used to bum pancakes from this restaurant guy I knew, in return for helping clean up after the lunch rush.
No money, no car, no family, no student loans, no responsibility. It rawked, dudes!

Gay Penguins
by ValiantBoy ingerman zoo tempts gay penguins to go straight.
a german zoo has imported four female penguins from sweden in an effort to tempt its gay penguins to go straight.
the four swedish females were dispatched to the bremerhaven zoo in bremen after it was found that three of the zoo?s five penguin pairs were homosexual.

I used to have a wonderful cat who was gay. He only ever went for male cats, and he utterly ignored females, even those who were in heat and kept putting their bidness right up in his face- no reaction whatsoever. So, it does happen with animals, just as with humans.
I don't think those penguins will ever be turned straight. Speaking from personal experience, if a guy is gay, he's gay, and no level of feminine pulchritude will induce him to change.

This stuff has been on my mind lately, as I had occasion this week to speak to a witness guy I knew from years ago. When the subject of Silent Lambs came up, he started demanding to know where I was living, saying he wanted to contact the elders about me.
I guess that's what it took to put it all in perspective for me. It struck me, that the absolute worst thing the elders could do to me, was to officially kick me out of their little club. If my family chooses not to speak to me, I'll be sad, but I'll get through it. The local witnesses don't speak to me now anyway, so that's not changing anything. The longer I am away from the witnesses, the less I care what they try to do to me.
Ultimately, it comes down to this: If they want to disfellowship someone, they will do so, with or without "just" cause, with or without our participation in the judicial process. This latest change just makes it easier for them. But, if they start going after everyone with spotty meeting attendance, low hours, worldly partners, etc., they will very soon have nobody left.

Oh, lordy, the days are just full.
I got my college degree. I now run a small business (all mine!) and am in the process of setting up a medium-sized business so's I can get rich and make my bf quit his job and just tend to me all day- I wanna be a sugar mommy! I know, the question was what do we do for fun, but this stuff is fun for me!
I'm writing a novel. It takes place in 1865 in San Francisco, and one of the main characters is a numismatist. It's full of sex and violence, and I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I'm enjoying creating it.
I'm reading TONS of books I never had time for before- sci-fi, bodice rippers, horror, classic stuff like Beowulf and Chaucer's stories, psychology texts, and a cool book on pirates given me for XMas by my mum.
I'm studying the Tarot, Buddhism, Wicca, Spanish language, and learning calligraphy. Lots of fun stuff!

Are ex-jw's or "apostates" addicted to jw-bashing?
by booker-t inthis might seem like a funny question to ask but my mom told me that "apostates" are addicted to jw-bashing and cannot let it go and have a life.
i asked her what she meant by this statement and she told me that all ex-jw's talk about is the wts and jw's and negative things about the jw's.
she said that we get up thinking about jw-bashing and go to sleep thinking about jw-bashing just like a drug addict.

It's easy to be bitter. I went through a bitter, angry phase myself, and I don't blame anyone else who's having those feelings now. But as I've said before on this site, I don't hate jw's- they are my brother, my sister-in-law, my nephew, my cousins, my former sweethearts, my dearest and oldest friends; I love them and miss them and want only to help them. What I hate, and hold responsible for more evil than I care to go into now, is the Watchtower Society. Even that, I try not to dwell upon, as it's an unproductive use of my time.
What is productive, is for me to lead a rich, full, and happy life- hopefully, my former "brothers and sisters" in the cong will see that my life didn't come to a screeching halt when I left, I'm not "howling from sheer breakdown of spirit". Maybe someday one of them will have the courage to return my hello on the street, or give me a call on the phone- maybe I can help someone else escape a life of servitude to a false faith, as I did. This can't be accomplished by angry, bitter picketing of assembly halls, or jeers and taunts directed at publishers going door-to-door- that stuff only alienates them and frightens them deeper into the organization.
I guess this could all be summed up by "do unto others, as you would have them do unto you," or "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

When I was a sister (gawd, I can't believe I just called myself that; it feels like it was someone else's life) I worked nights as a cocktail waitress at a Navy meatmarket bar. Yeah, I know, not a very theocratic form of employment, right? But a single girl's gotta pay those bills somehow.
On occasion, one or another of the local dubs would come in, always alone, always looking sneaky and scared. I felt bad for them...it's not right that a person should feel weird about such a normal human activity. Generally, when they saw me there, they'd beat a hasty retreat; one guy actually came up to tell me that he wouldn't tell anyone he'd seen me there, if I wouldn't narc on him. Poor fella just wanted to feel normal for a couple of hours.
In the bar my bf and I go to these days, there are never any witnesses, as it's sort of a rough crowd that goes there (bf and I being notable exceptions, of course.)

Psychic readings
by JustTickledPink inwho here has been to a psychic or palm reader?
do you think they have any supernatural powers or just make informed guesses based on statistics when they take a look at you.
example: i am 30, a white female, with a ring on my finger.. what are the issues that concern me?.

I've done readings for others, and have had them done for me. While I believe that those with strong psychic abilities do exist, I've not yet met any. Whenever I did a reading, I relied on my powers of observation, and a bit of intuition, to figure out who the person was, and where they were headed in their lives. I would then gently guide them toward a peaceful way of achieving their goals and breaking out of unproductive ruts. When I've gone for readings for myself, I've gone with the attitude that, while this person can't actually see my future, she may, from her different perspective, see aspects of my situation that I'd been missing.
And no, I have never felt the presence of demons, nor angels for that matter, at a reading.

<--------------This is not me. This is a picture of an actress whom I very slightly resemble, in the most general of ways. At first I didn't post a pic of my own self because I was still bloody scared of the fallout in my cong; now I don't post my pic because there are none of me that I actually like.
One poster on this forum has told me that she has a pic of me from the '80's, taken in a Kingdom Hall, I believe. I have not seen this picture, but I can well imagine how funny it must be: I was such a dorky looking teenager! Hell, I've never looked good in photographs, not once.
