One song that I can't hear without being reminded of my ex is "Whoomp: There it is". Not for any romantic reasons, obviously. There was a worldly guy I dated briefly while I was still a witness, trying to work up the courage to leave. This guy was in the Navy, but moonlighted as a stripper. "Whoomp" was his signature song that he played at the start of his routine (which I never got to see). Now I hear it every time I go to aerobics class, and the instructor can't figure out why I always get the giggles- some day, I'll have to tell her it makes me picture my ex shaking the only beautiful thing he had in strangers' faces for beer money.

Ex Music
by Stefanie inbecause i love music so much, i wanted to start another thread on it.. what songs remind you of your ex?
the ones you have to turn off before you... a) cry your eyes out... b) get so angry you would like to curse out loud, or... d) you dont care, you like to be reminded of your past flings.. for me it would have to be anything from seal, or hootie and the blowfish, and anything jazz.
i dont a,b, or c, but i do get annoyed and dont like to be reminded so i switch the station.. anyone else?

When my fella and I saw this flick on Sunday, I whispered to him at around that point "Oh no, it's Jehovah's Witnesses!". We both cracked up, because it really did seem like an extreme version of them, swooping into town, telling everybody to convert...OR ELSE!!!
It's a really fun, silly movie, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist in my own life, which is fine, but then I can be self-righteous and judgemental regarding others if they don't measure up.

by exjdub infor something really stupid, or for something you didn't do?.

When honey-bunny and I were first dating, I went to one of the elders who was a pretty cool guy ( I thought) and informed him that I had a "worldly" boyfriend. I did this so it would be out in the open, and I wouldn't feel like we were sneaking around. He did not say too much, just that he was worried this wasn't the smartest path for me, I thanked him, and that was the end of it... I thought.
2 weeks later, after a Sunday meeting, I went back to the library to use the phone to check if my mom needed any groceries before I started the long drive home. When I turned around, 2 elders were standing there silently watching me. In the doorway, so I could not get past. When I tried to leave, they pretty much insisted I stay, and then they read me the riot act about worldly men ( even telling me that my boyfriend would, more than likely, rape me if I refused to sleep with him. Cuz that's just what worldly people do, of course.). They insisted I leave him that very day. They brought out the scripture about how going back to sinful ways is like a dog returning to its own vomit. "Excuse me....Did you just call the man I love vomit?" That's the last time I confided anything to an elder, and the last time I let them corner me in the "library".

When I first started to get to know honey-bunny, we never discussed our jobs in any detail. I assumed that, like most people in my area, he was working-class broke like me. Eventually, after I had fallen for the big sweetie, I found out that he makes a comfortable living- not wealthy, but well-off.
His company pays its employees more or less, depending upon how willing they are to travel- at times in his life, he's been abroad for a couple of years at a stretch, with only an occasional weekend home to visit with family. This kind of work pays outlandish amounts of money. However, he chose to buy a house and settle down in a small Maine town, making only his base pay, just so he would always be close to me. Now, that's true love, people. No way I'd trade having him by my side for wads of money and being alone all the time.
Now, if we won the lottery, and could have both love and money, that would be pretty nice, too.

I know in my heart that I'm going to take heat for this, but I have to say it:
Prince Charles deserves a medal for having been married to Diana for as long as he was. I never liked her, felt her life was nothing but a bunch of photo-ops, while others, like Princess Anne, quietly did their charitable work with no cameras present. I hope that Charles and Camilla will wed and have many more happy years together.

Have others given up trying to communicate their feelings?
by Celtic ini don't think i'll be listened to any more, my story is not worth telling, it is too complex, it causes me too much sadness to try to relate it, too much shame and too much internal pain.
am i the only one that feels that they have given up trying to communicate their feelings here anymore?
like my personality is a sham, i do my best to cope, to be happy, to be this cantankerous old sod that tries to make out to everyone i'm doing well, but ..... anyone?

Celtic, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! That's one good thing about these emotions, the lows always give way to high points, it just takes some time.
I want you to know that I have always thought very highly of you. Even when you exasperate me, I just want to smack you upside the head, then give you a hug. Or a beer. Or both. Granted, it's hard to say that you really know someone you've only met via the internet, but all of us here, myself included, have formed such a positive impression of you. You have such a unique way of writing about your life, your thoughts, etc., your posts are some of the best writing I've seen all day. It's always such a treat to see the photos of your beautiful Cornwall. And you can be so funny; a few times in chat, you've actually made me laugh out loud- and I almost never smile, much less laugh.
Please hang in there when these emotions get hold of you. All of us here were so wounded by what that "religion" did to us and our lives, our emotions seem always to be either bubbling very close to the surface, or they are buried so deep we can't even find them most of the time. You seem to be the first type; this is definitely the healthier of the two. We're all trying to have "normal" lives now, and maybe working through these ups and downs is just part of the process.
Bless you, Celtic; may you find peace and lasting happiness, as you truly deserve them.
