Just wanted to say thanks
by jwbot inthanks to everyone on this board, and thank you simon for having this board.. .
when i first went here, i just wanted to see what people were saying about a religion that had been a big part of my life, and i found support.
i had been so upset at myself for letting the religion get to me...for it being something i left physically, but not mentally and emotionally.

Glen Frey, "Smuggler's Blues" -- How was this NOT on the Grand Theft Auto soundtrack?
Europe, "The Final Countdown" -- Drum Intro? Guitar intro? Nope...try a synth intro.
Howard Jones, "No One Ever is to Blame" -- My first kiss at age 15 . I have to stop EVERYTHING when this comes on.
Basia, "Time and Tide" -- Great jazz voice. A very personal memory, too.
Paul Carrack, "Don't Shed a Tear for Me." -- A great way to let a girl have it after she kicks you to the curb
The Go-Go's, "Can't Stop the World." -- One of my get-goin' songs.
Prince, "Raspberry Beret" -- A song about a first time. very funkadelic.
The Beastie Boys, "No Sleep till Brooklyn" -- Underappreciated.
The Clash, "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" -- Combat Rock was their last album (Cut the Crap doesn't count.)
Warrant, "Cherry Pie" -- Gotta have a hair metal song.
Twisted Sister, "We're Not Gonna Take It." -- OK, gotta have TWO hair metal songs.
Linda Ronstadt, "Don't Know Much." -- She sounds like she cries every song. And her eyes...I'm powerless...
REM, "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I feel fine.)"-- years better than that Billy Joel "We didn't start the fire" P.O.S.

Our Heroes--past and present
by Vita Nuova ini really hope to get a ton of responses for this topic, so even if you're just browsing through postings and topics, please add your two cents...however brief.
i am really curious to know who our "heroes" are, those people we admire, identify with, emulate and recieve inspiration from.
feel free to even list former heroes and perhaps why you were taken with admiration for them at that point in your life and maybe why you don't feel that way any longer.

Martin Luther -- I think all leaving Witnesses will relate to this one.
Jim Thorpe -- Red Pride showin'.
Abe Lincoln -- If we had focus polls in the 1860's, He'd never have gotten elected. He changed the way a nation thought.
Teddy Roosevelt -- Another great Liberal Persident.
P.J. O' Rourke -- Funny, funny conservative.
Joan of Arc -- 15 year old country girl leads the French against the British and almost wins. The FRENCH, mind you.
Niccolo Machiavelli -- Today, he'd be Vince McMahon.
Vince McMahon -- "Stone Cold Steve Austin...YOU'RE FIRED!!"
Winston Churchill -- Greatest Orator of the 20th Century. Part of the reason the Brits are 2-0 vs. Germany.
Thomas Jefferson -- "I swear upon the altar of God eternal opposition to every form of tyranny over the mind of man." How can that be improved upon?
Brad Pitt -- Seven, Fight Club, Snatch, and banging Jennifer Aniston.
My Son -- "Daddy, don't quit! Don't ever quit!" Wow, he listened.
Malcolm X -- King and Huey Newton run a wery close Place and Show.
Blondie -- Our Queen!
Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton -- name these two as heroes at the same time. You'll start a fight with anyone.
Kirby Puckett -- short, fat and amazing.
The first Meso-American cook who decided to eat jalapenos.
Madonna -- Taught women to be bitchy, demanding, expressive and take charge in a way that men will respect. I'd like my chance to thank her.
Corazon Aquino -- How do you avenge your dead husband? Beat his killer's ass in an election and lead a coup to force him out.
Che Guevara -- Hate the commie politics...love the revolutionary zeal, strategy and that kick-ass pose!
Warren Sapp -- A quantam leap as a defensive tackle. I wouldn't say a word around him...just drink, listen, and laugh.

self expression
by the_red_pill inhey all im new to this site its really interesting to see people working out issues, getting things off their chests, and building a community.
im 23 and broke with the faith when i left my parents house at 17, in effect i had before that but it took a while to free my mind from the doctrine.
i like to think all that stuff is behind me but you know, upbringing affects you a lot.

Welcome Red Pill!
Nice choice of expression as a therapy. As witnesses, we don't get much of an opportunity to show our talents and colors. I never saw such hostility from people in the organization as when I wrote...even my parents.
That's not God's plan. We're supposed to use our talents and gifts to their potential and enrich our lives and those around us. There is no greater expression of Divine Love than showing the world what He gave us.

What message did you retain from the bible?
by JH in.
having read the bible over and over again, how would you resume summarize what you read in the bible?
.

JH: That's the message from the org, not from God's Word to his children.
That message is "Love your neighbors as you love yourself."

Met:
Hit home again...
My ex, though, begged me to commit adultery after she left...I should have, but really felt I was in the right. No one at the hall thought so. I had a great chance to fade then. Shoulda come here. Should, shoulda, shoulds. Now she's out, I look like the good guy to the hall. B!+c# even ruined my chance to fade right.

New Divorce Rules ???
by jazbug ina friend of mine is getting a divorce because her husband is questioning the wts...he's sick of the cover-ups...in light of a new elder abuse case here.
she says she can't lie with someone who is going to talk against the wts..so i asked her how she could get a divorce for those reasons.
evidentally, the co came to talk to her and because she can't get govt.

There aren't any divorce rules...the elders take a side in a separation, play one against the other and blame the other and try to find a way to DF him/her (if they haven't yet). The congregation takes the hint and gives a defacto dissfellowshipping in the meantime.
I played by the rules...that's why I'm still in...If I had met this board during the separation, my fade would have been easier because no one was talking to me. Then my ex was caught sleeping around, I was vindicated (according to their way, too) and my "friends" came out again in the fair weather. That #$@+ even messed up my fade...
