The WTS certainly doesn’t protect children from fears, depression, and suicide relating to demons, stumbling someone, sinning against the holy spirit, being “disfellowshipped,” dying at Armageddon, . . . . oh, wait – THEY’RE the ones causing and promoting all that!

When you really think of it, technically Disney’s Mickey Mouse would also be demonic by definition. Mickey is a cartoon of a TALKING mouse. (Real mice can’t actually talk according to the normal rules of nature, remember?) And what did the snake supposedly do in the Garden of Eden? It TALKED to Eve. And who was behind the snake, controlling it? Ssssatan! . . . . So, by the WTS’ (super-idiotic) reasoning, then technically poor little Mickey would also be villafied on the old “demonic” list.
The WTS’ meticulous obsession with “Pagan origins” this, “worldly” that, and “demonic” the other thing really reminds me of when Jesus mentioned about the Pharisees ‘straining out the gnat but gulping down the camel.’ (Matthew 23:24) And of course Jesus himself was supposed to have basically gone on a magic spree that would put Chris Angel to shame.
Actually, I saw every single episode of the X-Files, and I’m proud of it! (But not my folks.)

Given the small percentage of human population on the fringes as to how they specifically would like to be treated (bullies with low self-esteem, sadomasochistic folks, people who just love a good fight), I would say that Matthew 7:12 would be a socially acceptable and morally valid principle in the vast majority cases compared with the average. As to being able to tell exactly which personality type you are dealing with at any given moment, I suppose that it would be kind of similar to quantum mechanics in that you cannot ascertain exactly where an electron is located at any specific time due to the “Heisenberg uncertainty principle” BUT, however, you can determine the orbital area (the “electron cloud”) wherein an electron is likely be present about 90 percent of the time.
So in other words, deciding to start from the precept that “most people respond to kindness” and going from there would, in fact, be your best bet, or at least probably a good 90 percent of the time.

by SAHS inwe know now that the end of this system of things wasnt supposed to come after 6000 years of mankinds existence, which was the year 1975 a.d. freddie franz obviously got it wrong maybe the end was really supposed to come after 6000 pages of topics on the jwn friends directory.
you will notice that today we have indeed reached 6000 pages of new topics on this friends directory.
maybe thats what its supposed to be.

We know now that the end of this system of things wasn’t supposed to come after 6000 years of mankind’s existence, which was the year 1975 A.D. Freddie Franz obviously got it wrong – maybe the end was really supposed to come after 6000 pages of topics on the JWN “Friends” directory. You will notice that today we have indeed reached 6000 pages of new topics on this “Friends” directory. Maybe that’s what it’s supposed to be. Oh boy, I’m getting a little scared right now. Someone hold me. *

* Footnote: Yes, that’s sarcasm. I’m not really a qualified numerologist/pyramidologist. I just couldn’t resist that 6000 thing.

Where did the Witchtower Babble on about "HAPPIFIED" first?
by hamsterbait ini have the idea, or vague memory of happified being used in a discussion of the "days" in daniel 12 : "jehovah's people were further happified ".
does anybody have the litterature still to check this?
mine went in the trash, except for the aid book, which ray franz produced, so i kept it as he had integrity, along with the james commentary.. can you remember any other ridiculous words they used?

SAHS
To “hamsterbait”: Here’s a very interesting definition that comes up on my computer for both “happified” as well as “happify” – here it is:
“No results found”
Now that’s quite telling as to how the WTS has a record of being out of step with society in word, in action, and, of course, in print.
To “RubaDub”: LOL! Good one. That little laugh I just had was most “happifying.” (Same definition results.)
You wouldn’t want to actually use words like that in any document of any kind of serious, . . . . otherwise that would make your document become rather befriggified! (I made that one up. I guess my brain is getting discombobulated in my old age.)

The WTS does believe that “if we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (NRSV) – but the only difference is that the WTS wants us to confess our sins to them, and of course Jesus is always just an afterthought.

Is it kind of funny that JWs don't give Jesus resurrection day any notice?
by Comatose inif you think about it, for a die hard christian the day jesus was supposed to be resurrected and back in heaven, thereby fulfilling his earthly mission, is a very big day.
all the jws i know never even thought about it.
in fact if i had mentioned it, i bet they would have looked me at strangely.

SAHS
“will-be-apostate”: “Maybe because the bible doesn't tell christians to commemorate his ressurection?”
Maybe so, but I would think that it would go without saying that since Jesus’ death is so pivotal in the outworking of Almighty God’s purpose for humanity, Jesus’ resurrection should naturally also be recognized annually, as the whole plan would fall apart without his death AND resurrection. These two events are very much intertwined and integral to the Christian faith. . . . or at least they should be.

If we had to wait until all the anointed were finally sealed and arrived in heaven before the oubreak of Armageddon, then theoretically the WTS could s t r e t c h out the plan pretty much indefinitely.

“Xanthippe”: “I think the reason they focus on his horrific death is so they can say Jesus suffered so much, what are you going to do for him. Which translated means how much are you going to slave for our publishing company.”
You hit the nail right in the head, Xanthippe! Focusing on the resurrection of Jesus Christ would detract from the veneration which the WTS is really after for themselves. And from a psychological view, you can see how the WTS is so dead against celebrating one’s birthday.
Perhaps the way the WTS will want everyone to celebrate Jesus’ birthday will be to come out with a set of chocolate Governing Body members. That way, ALL of us could partake of the Brooklyn Eucharist.

Who is the mediator for the R&F now?
by nonjwspouse inhas this been changed?
i thought this might need a new thread.. the memorials i have heard about multiple ones noted the prayer ending with something like "jesus our mediator".. sams on another thread :.
nonjwspouse: sahs, so has it now been stated that jesus is only the mediator for the fds, not all the anointed as was previously?.

SAHS
Thank you, Blondie! That’s a good observation: the WTS likes to flaunt their apparently exclusive position as being the sole object of Jesus’ mediatorship, BUT, however, when discussing (or debunking) the validity and appropriateness of venerating Jesus’ mother Mary, then the proper, Biblical understanding of Jesus being the “only one mediator between God and mankind” sort of slips out!
