This is kind of a small thing so I don't claim to know to much but can suggest a bit. Some of the Jews did believe that the messiah and the prophet might be separate people. 'The Prophet' is used in a few other places in John too-- ie 6:14 & 7:40 and is said to be a title taken from Duet.18:15 which is a reference to Christ so it might indicate that although they were expecting them to be different people they were really one in the same. Don't quote me on that but study the scriptures :) Welcome Newbie

by jeannie inhi i am new to this forum, so please bear with me.
i have a question from the book of john.
john is asked if he is the christ, he replies no, then he is asked if he is the prophet, he replies no.

Revelation 19:1:- Christians or Angels?
by stevieb1 inhi, i've been researching the society's explanation of the 144,000 and the great crowd in some consderable depth and i've reached the conclusion that both groups are one and the same, hence i digress from the watchtower's "two class" theology.
many sites dealing with witnessing to jw's often cite revelation 19:1 as proof that the "great crowd" is in heaven.
this verse reads: .

My understanding of the Book of revelation is that it was written to then worshipping congregations...not the whole church - but those who attend on a regular basis.
That is innaccurate. Not the whole book of revelation is letters to chuches- only the first 3 chapters are.
Also read the very words of introduction to the book:
"Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take it to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."

The JWs main problem is they 'spiritualize' anything that doesn't match with their theology. They don't seem to care about the 144,000 being listed as Jews because they think they are Jews. Sound nuts? They take the term spiritual Jew to define themselves and define 'gentiles' as all worldy people. The problem with that is the bible doesn't back up those usages.
They use Rev.7 for their 2 class system -- 144,000 and a great multitude. Notice though that 'a great multitude'- even in the very passage they quote-- says they are before the throne and in front of the Lamb. JWs do believe God's throne is in heaven so how can the great multitude be before his throne if they are not there? -

Getting out--- Not all of us are bitter at God-- I for one am not.
It's not his fault that humans --like the JWs-- misinterpret what he has written in the Bible. Yahweh is truth and love and always there even when we don't want him to be. Just because the JWs were wrong doesn't mean the Bible is since they weren't backed by it in the first place. Just a thought Personally, I love Yahweh and know now more than ever that he's there.
gettingout--did I miss it or what is your 'getting out' story? Just curious -

New a good term instead of born-again
by Skeptic ini have been associated with many religious groups over the years, mainly the catholics, jehovah's witnesses, and various evangelical born-again groups.. i often use the term born-again on this forum.
i normally mean born-again in reference to evangelical born-again groups, "fundies", etc.. a couple of posters here have told me that they find the way i used the term born-again offensive.
they rightly tell me that most christians believe that they are born-again...hence, my comments offend them.. so, folks, can we come up with a more accurate term?

Thre is no easy answer here! I just say Christian and if neccessary explain it as evangelical or born-again. If you are talking about Catholics say Catholic, If you are talking about liberals say liberals. Depends on what you are refering to.
I am a Christian and that what I call myself because thats what the first followers of Christ were called - "first called Christians at Antioch". I also have been refered as and sometimes do refer to 'born-again' (a reference to John 3:3). I personally don't have a problem with it. I guess the main point is try to be specific in who you are refering to because many religions want to refer to themselves as true christianity-- much like the JWs. Maybe we should all try to not be so offended and ask for explainations if there is a question about who someone is speaking of. Just don't be derogatory

I'v got to tell something this!
by voltaire ini've posted several times about how i'm fed up with the witnesses but my wife won't budge.
she's become a bit more tolerant lately, but mostly we get along better when we don't talk about anything substantive.
i've been working up the nerve to tell the elders why i don't go out anymore.

I'll have to come back with the actual scripture refences later but wanted to drop you this note:
I don't know how you are on God & the Bible right now but scripturally speaking,
You don't have the scriptural ground to divorce her but she has the scriptural ground to divorce you. When you two married you both thought you were getting JW spouse. Now that you have changed and are not JW she has the right to a divorce because you are no longer what she married. She however- is still what you married- you knew what you were getting into so-to-speak & she has not been unfaithful to you(right?) So if she will have you I say try but if she won't you are scripturally off the hook.
Just a technical note -

The Blood Isseu: Bethel's Vietnam?
by Room 215 inthis is prompted by bethel's rather cryptic decision not to issue 2002 blood cards and dogpatch's release of an exchange of an eye-opening exchange of correspondence, as have been reported here on earlier threads.
as is usually the case, there is more to this blood card thing than what's being said by bethel's spinmeisters for public consumption.
a hidden agenda, i'm not sure what it is, lurks.

They are fighting a loosing battle-- they are going to look like (even) big(ger) hypocrites to their people if the renig on the blood issue. It wll be the 1975 fiasco all over again only worse because they printed blood ban tremendously. They will most likely fade away on the issue as they do with other old light.
Just remember to anyone still conteplating the issue:
Here is the Old Law penalty contained in Leviticus 17:14,15:
“For the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood by the soul in it. Consequently I said to the sons of Israel: ‘You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off.’ As for any
soul that eats a body (already) dead or something torn by a wild beast, whether a native or an alien resident, he must in that case wash his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening; and he must be clean.” (New World Translation)
Yes, the penalty for eating (or in Jehovah’s Witness reasoning, taking a blood transfusion)was being “cut off,” until you had washed your clothes and taken a bath, and then you
could return!
Why then believe an organization that would take your eternal life as a penalty for a blood transfusion? God never would. -

Do you think that the WT will ban the Internet?
by gilwarrior ini think that it will happen.
there is so much information about what really goes on.
the hypocrasy, the scandals, the misinformation.

Don't know, they in practice teach their people that the internet is evil so they shouldn't use it but I don't know if they will in writting Ban it. Maybe they will, look at all the other wild things they've had the guts to put in writting. I think even if they did, it would only make people more curious in what is on it!
