It was translated by a purposely secret gathering of 5-7 WT men--
Several of whom were or in the future were presidents of the society.
None of whom knew the Biblical languages. There is a good series on JWs by the Ankerberg Research Institute that has good info on the NWT.
email me for the url cuz I have to find it

NWT translation
by apostate man ini have been doing a lot of research lately on jws and the new world translation.
through history, i found that king james, in 1604, ordered a commitee to accurately translate the original scriptures, from hebrew and greek, into the english language.
this took 47 people 7 years to do and thus came up with the kj bible.

what does the watchtower teach that is right.
by jerome inso you dont have to say it.
could you please bear with me for a second here.. this organisation cant be all bad even though overall it is.. .
most of you may reluctantly hold the opinion that every thing the watchtower currently teaches isnt all bad so could you please give your honest opinions as to what you think is good about the org.. so what is there that can be said about it and its teachings that is good.. especially about prophecy.

What are they right about? Not much
#1They are correct in believing the God does indeed exist-- But they don't know who he is-- they don't stick to the Bible's teaching on it.
#2They believe the Bible is inspired by God but they don't trust it to speak for itself-- they must interpret it and they are always right- except when their wrong and then it's ok not to be perfect.
#3They believe in creation but aren't very intelligent to the scientific proof.
#4They try to be moral and good people but for the wrong reasons.
#5They try to show love but its always conditional and the Bible says even sinners love those who love them.
Much more almosts but not quites. They try but are mistaken. -

The Ark a question can anybody help????
by moneypenny inwhile listening to a radio programme this morning i heard an anglican clergyman, whilst relating the account of noah and the flood, say that a hole had been made in the side of the ark and this related to jesus having a wound inflicted in his side too, therefore jesus is the spiritual equivalent of the ark in noahs day.. now i prefer that version rather than the jw line that the organisation is the spiritual ark.
i have read the account in genesis both in the living bible and the king james and cannot find any mention of the ark ever having a hole inflicted in its side.. .
i wasn't paying much attention to the radio it was just going on in the backround but this got my attention because i was brought up a methodist and i seem to recall something about this in my dim and distant past.

You guys are doing wondeful describing the symbolism that God uses throughtout the Bible. Many things are connected and not coincidentally to show the true unity of our Lord. Whether the ark had a hole or not need not be the point- like discussed ablove it is symbolic in hiding ourselves in Christ- He is our refuge and Savior.
Have a blessed day! <>< Angie -

Answer from a JW friend about blood
by uncle_onion inthis is what a jw friend sent to me.
i had got him to read the latest letters on blood that were posted last week.i can t believe he read them.
this is his reply (typos and all).

First of all, as to scriptural support for taking or not taking Blood.
The Bible says not to eat blood. Why? All God's laws had/have practicle purpose so why not eat blood? Because it was dangerous- disease was transfered this way and all the pagan nations would catch them because they ignored this law of God. Since that basicly is not a danger today should we eat blood? No. God says you shouldn't but he also teaches a few principles in the Bible that need to be included in any legalistic study. First of all, Matt. 15:11 says that it is not what goes into a mans mouth that makes him unclean but what comes out of it. Secondly, Consider Matt. 12:9-14. Jesus heals a man on the Sabath which is unlawful-- no work at all on the Sabath allowed. Jesus in the passage sets aside a small law in order to save a life-- just as the accusing people would have done for even a farm animal of theirs. Consider which is better: Saving a persons life with a simple medical procedure (that does not go against God's law) or refusing the simple and safe procedure for the sake of legalism--
Matt.12:7:
If you knew what these words mean, " I desire mercy, not sacrifice," you would have not condemned the innocent.
If one wants to stricly follow levitical law then JWs should not be eating any unbled meat-- only kosher like the Jewish people and follow all dietary laws. But they don't-- the only dietary law they seem to care about is not 'eating' blood. Why follow one law and not the others? Lack of maturity and understanding of the Bible is why.
Also, tangent here ,when i had bad times as a
catholic all i had to do was show up fou the SUNDAY
CEREMONY AND PAY THE 3 COLLECTIONS . THE CHAPLAINS IN
THE ARMY BLESSED OUR M16 RIFLES. THE PROTESTANT ONES
AND JEWES DID THE SAME. YOUR PROBLEM IS JOHN YOU LOOK
AT THE STRAW IN THE SOCIETIES EYES AND FORGET THE
RAFTER IN FALSE RELIGIONS EYES. SOME ONE TOLD ME
RECEINTLY APOSTATES ARE LOOKING FOR A WAY OUT. THAT IS
WHAT YOU ARE DOING.YOU SAID BELIEVE IN JESUS AND YOU
WILL BE SAVED. HE WHO ENDURES TO THE END WILL BE SAVED
. STRUGGLE TO GET THROUGH THE NARROW GATE. PREACH THE
GOOD NEWS ABOUT A PARADISE EARTH. WHERE ARE YOU GOING
ANSWER ME THAT HEAVEN OR EARTH.feel the need to answer this prejudice and unintelligent ramble.
Catholics are not neccessarily the same thing as christian. Some catholics are christian but the church as a whole has many antichristian beliefs. Straw Dog approach.
Chaplins blessing riffles? don't know if that is accurate or if they were blessing the soldiers-- God ordained many a war and blessed wars that his people fought for righteous reasons even if he didn't directly tell them to fight it. War sucks but in this world is sometime neccessary to save/help the oppressed.
Straw VS. Rafter-- do they really want to go there
Hmm. They ignore the Bibles teachings on almost everything but they want to point fingers everytime they see someone thats imperfect?
Interesting. I thought the society was 'right' though-- what 'straw' does he see in their eye?
Believing in Jesus is the only way. He scoffs at that which is sad because even his Bible says that. He asks 'where are you going heaven or earth' but he doesn't mean it -- he believes you are going into nonexistance. The question isn't heaven or earth-- it Eternity with God or Eternity apart from God. Even Charles Taze Russel understands that now
OK, done <>< Angie -

morning after pill, who's heard of it?
by peaceloveharmony ininteresting article about this.
one thing that surprised me was that people confuse morning after pills with ru-486 (or the abortion pill) which it is not.
as this is my local paper, the stats are all about minnesota and south dakota :) .

Adonai438
Yes, I've heard of the morning after pill. I did know the difference as well but do not agree with either one. The abortion pill induces miscarraige of a fertilzed egg/embryo/baby and the morning after pill makes it so the fertilized egg/embryo/baby cannot implant in the uterus. The outcome is no different-- and no better than the other.
Just food for thought. Also, as long as stories are being shared I'd like to post one of a friend of mine that went through a terrible thing with the morning after pill and the planned parenthood organization. I'm not trying to debate but I know my friend would want this shared. Consider this when thinking any of this seems harmless enough.:
When my friend was out of town she was raped. Obviously a horrible and unthinkable thing to have to live through. When she was taken to the hospital they gave her the morning after pill without telling her that if indeed she was pregnant that it would prohibit the baby from implanting. She found out afterward what it was and was quite upset. She would not have chosen to take it if she had known what it really was. But her story doesn't end there. The pill didn't work. The baby did implant and grow. She went to a free clinic (planned parenthood) when she got home to make sure everything was allright--(her health insurance was lapsed briefly at the time so she found a free clinic in the phone book)-- They informed her that the baby was most likely dead and they would have to do a D&C abortion. They performed some tests -none of which they shared the results with her -- and performed the abortion to 'clear' the uterus and sent her home. She had emense pain and bleeding and got an infection from the 'procedure' so she had to obtain her charts from this clinic to bring to her regular doctor now that her health insurance was back on. Her regular doctor upon examining her charts asked if she was aware of the test results of the baby that the free clinic performed. She was not and asked what they were-- the baby was alive and fine (heart rythem and other stats were recorded on the chart) when the free clinic told her it was not. The planned parenthood clinic performed tests that confirmed this baby was alive and did not tell her-- they let her think that it was dead and performed an abortion. She would not have willingly aborted her child had she known they were alive. This is not a harmless industry even after you get past the moral question. It's dangerous and this kind of thing happens more often than anyone wants to think it does. Not only has it killed over 1/3 of our nations babies since Roe V. Wade but it kills and permanantly hurts mothers. Consider it please.

That's some journey jerome! Can't wait to hear more!
Sounds so similar to me in a way-- I was the Jw girl out to convert my young boyfriend. Problem was my boyfriend knew the Bible well, was a Christian, and wound up converting me--
Not for him though- because the Bible is truly right and JWs are truly mistaken. Feel free to e-mail me to chat/vent/talk or info on the Bible-- I'll stay tuned for the next installment
catch ya later-- <>< Angie -

Luke 16:22-23? Explain this to me!
by tabande1 inhello people, i would like to know the take the jw's have on this bit of scripture taken from the kjv of luke 16; 22-23..... 22 and it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into abraham's bosom: the rich man also died and was buried;.
23 and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth abraham afar off, and lazarus in his bosom.. will someone tell me the spill on this piece of scripture?

Adonai438
JWs say it is just a parable and that of course, Jesus wasn't refering to hell because it doesn't exist. But circular reasonig never got them anywhere and it won't work here either ;)
Even if it is a parable it would be a parable to illustrate truth. If hell doesn't exist why would Jesus use a story about it to illustrate truth? What truth was he illustrating if it wasn't hell?
It is considered unlikely to be a parable in it's context however because in no parable did jesus ever use real names of real people. Lazarus was a real person. Also, Jesus always said when he was using parables where as right here he does not. -

Har-mageddon, literal or symbolical?
by Kenneson inthe new world translation at rev.
16:14 says that it is the kings of the entire inhabited earth who will be gathered together to the war of the great day of god the almighty.
gathering place is har-mageddon.
-
Adonai438
Yes I think Armageddon will be literal-- The Bible is usually very clear when it is something symbolic and this is a detailed account given - not a symbolic looking passage. Armageddon, however, will not be something The whole world suffers through and whoever ends up still alive are the good guys. Study the second comming passages and Revelations for details ;) Have fun guys! <>< Angie

Why Do JW Leave and Want Nothing to Do With God
by castlelover ini find reading this information from different individuals that being a jw and then leaving has people not wanting anything to do with god.
did god tell us to become members of a cult?
i think it is a form of programming that is given over and over that we would be like a dog returning to its vomit.
-
Adonai438
Yes, guys and gals, God is Great!
I myself am now a christian after much research and study.
JWs may be misled or outright wrong on almost everything but that doesn't mean God doesn't exist at all. Study his Word and the truth shall set you free :) <>< Angie
