When I was disfellowshipped (1986) I was a pioneer, living in a Parisian flat lent by JW friends who were in the UK at the time. I had left most of my things in Bethel where I had spent the 5 previous years. So I came back there to fetch the essentials (my only home from this moment on was my car -- an old French "deux chevaux"). From the WT literature I just took the Bibles and gave the rest to the first guy passing by. He was a new Bethel member and didn't know me. Quite a complete WT library from the 40's on...

Just to follow up briefly on Shotgun's explanation, there is an obvious discrepancy between the Synoptics and GJohn as to the day of Jesus' crucifixion. As Shotgun showed, in GJohn Jesus dies the day before Passover, while in the Synoptics he eats the Passover and dies the next day (Nisan 15) -- notice there is no "evening meal" in John. In both stories symbolism is involved (in John Jesus dies when the Passover lambs are slaughtered), so that it is impossible to know which account is historical -- if any. Some (e.g. Annie Jaubert, 1957) have brought into the picture the Essene solar calendar displayed in the Book of Jubilees (in this calendar the Passover always falls on Tuesday), implying that Jesus and his disciples did not follow the official temple schedule, but this fails to explain the difference between the Gospels.
As for the one day difference between JWs and Jews, it may be compared to the variations in muslim communities on the beginning and end of the lunar month of Ramadan.

Psalms when-who?
by peacefulpete inthe recent thread about ps 110 made me think about the psalms and their dating.
anyone doing a search online will find that there is as usual a great difference of opinion between religiously motivated and secular writers.
i thought it a good idea to toss out a few thoughts that might stir a discussion.

Note the Catholic Encyclopedia displayed on Love_Truth's link is the 1914 edition... Since 1943 (Divino Afflante Spiritu) Catholic scholars are allowed to engage in critical study of the Bible -- and many of them are doing a pretty good work at it...
One of the best commentaries of Psalms I have enjoyed is H.J. Kraus' (Augsburg collection).

I've finally made a decision
by J.R.R.Watchtower inhi friends!.
i've finally made a decision: i wil leave the wt in december 2004 or january 2005. please let me explain how i would manage this and i will also like to know your point of view or any other thing you would want to say.. i live in spain (as some of you know) in a city where there are 20 congregations.
i think that the elders would like to know the reason why i'm moving to another congregation.

Hola Elohim!
You know your circumstances best. But sooner or later you may realize that breaking free from JW influence just implies telling them que se vayan al Cuerno... (or something similar).
Take care,

"There are horses in heaven (Rev 19.11)"
by Schizm ini happened upon the following item while surfing the net this evening.
note the part of the answer that i've placed in yellow font.
probably would have been the best joke i've heard in a long time, were it not for the fact that the person supplying the answer was dead serious.question - do our pets go to heaven?

my first post in this forum
by trumangirl inhello, just introducing myself.
i'm an inactive witness, been so for a few months now.
got put off mostly by 1914 being hammered more and more lately, the child molestation issue, the un-ngo thing and just feeling like i don't want to shoot my mouth off and get labelled apostate so best to fade out.

Welcome Trumangirl!
About Paul and women, the only thing I've seen discussed here recently is 1 Corinthians 14:34f as an interpolation (manuscript evidence) contradicting chapter 11... In chapter 11 there are some translation problems, although not enough, I'm afraid, to make Paul an advocate of equality... Whatever the case we do have a Joseph Malik on this board, you might try to pm him (go to "members directory").

Slavery in the BIble
by Ariell inleviticus 25:44-46 "your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
you may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.
you can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow israelites ruthlessly.

The next silly thing to judging a 2000 y-o text by modern standards is using this text as a standard for present behaviour (or politics).
Maybe in the next centuries our descendants will stare at some of our current institutions (jail, for instance) as utterly barbarous. I hope so.

Check # 2, "political" -- the "son of the god" is the king.
