summer snoozefest
LOL I never heard it put this way before. How true.
being as i haven't been to a convention in years, i have a couple of questions:
do they still come out with that list of special-jw-rate hotels at the service meeting for the summer conventions?
also, i remember times when the list would be practically useless by the time my parents got home from that service meeting and started trying to make reservations.

once again, there's a lot of new people on this board as well as us "oldsters".
what was the original reason for you looking at this site and why did you make your first post?
and why do you stay here?
Questions are a good thing!
Thanks Minimus. So is that independant thinking huh?lol

I was on another board with questions. Some of the posters there kept refering back to this site. To be honest, I thought I was the only one in the world with the questions and concerns I had. Before I even posted or read any board, I would take questions to family and others and I was asked if I was talking to apostates. They all knew I worked on the computer, and told me to limit my time on the puter. I was being led astray. Thing was, I hadn't talked or looked for info on the net before they said anything. So then I started looking, and you all have been very helpful. This is a new journey for me. I have been questioning for a few months, but been around the witnesses since I was 14 yo. But so quickly things seem brighter. I was suffering from sever headaches looking for the truth in the books on my self. I made my first post becaue I had questions. I stay, because I find this place a very informative place, and I have enjoyed reading many of the posted. (Yes long winded aren't I?)
they're saying the prophecy is possibly fulfilled of "peace and security and then sudden destruction" in the year 1986 when world leaders dubbed that year as the "year of peace".
the feb.1st watchtower mentions that just as a pregnant woman over 9 months gradually has signs of a baby's growth in the womb, so too, we may have a fulfillment of bible prophecy without knowing it fully beforehand until the effects and results become obvious.
my mother read excerpts of the wt.
I'd say 18 years is one long drawn out pregnancy!
I would hate to deliver any child that grew for 18 yrs.

They year of peace yes, but it was not peace and security.
anyone remember those kingdom ministry parts we had to attend a month before the summer convention about not saving seats and not eating during the program.
even our behaivor in the hotel pool was admonished!
and don't walk around the halls during the program, hold that boo-boo till intermission holmes!
At some conventions, there continues to be a problem with many brothers and sisters and even young children milling about in the corridors during the sessions. Attendants will be instructed to ask such ones to return to the auditorium
We are now in an inside building. Myself, and several other women have been asked to leave the building, because there is no walking in the corridors. So there were some women and babies, and small children walking around outside. That's when I packed up all the kids, my mother, and left. I am not walking out in the city while my other children are with my mom.
This requires purchasing foodstuffs and beverages ahead of time and packing them in a small container or cooler that can fit under the seat
We used to have 4 coolers. One for sandwiches, two for drinks, and one with snacks, fruit and the like. I remember one person telling my Mother that this is a convention, not a picnic. I will never forget (because she never backtalked any man as far as I know) She told them, we have 6 children, three adults, and I will not let my grandchildren suffer without drink in the hot July sun in this stadium. The look on his face was pricless, and the kids still talk about Granny telling the man off.
.
we wanted to buy a dvd to watch, i thought the league of extraordinary gentlemen(i think that is the name) looked cool.
no spoilers please!
I agree with Tatiana. We all loved the movie here. Each one of the charactors in the movie comes from a book. Each one of my children are now reading about who they really were. I do agree, rent it first. If you love it, then buy it.
yeah, just what are your thoughts.
does death and aging frighten you?
why your answer?
I am looking forward to getting older. I am looking forward to seeing how my children are, and maybe see my grandbabies. Death? Doesn't scare or bother me at all. Either I will be asleep, and finally getting some well deserved sleep. I will be in heaven with loved ones, or burning in hell with the rest of my loved ones.LOL or maybe I will be reincarnated, and get another shot of all this.
I do worry about growing old and having to need my family to care for me. That is my only worry. Hopefully I will retain my mental facilities until I die in my sleep in my loft in Philly
when the internet was a novelty, sites like h2o sprung up featuring lengthy, detailed discussions about watchtower doctrine.. every aspect of witness belief was debated - and throughly refuted.
the gentile times, blood, parousia and the name 'jehovah'.
were examined and the watchtower ideology was cut to pieces.. .
Here is a question. If the numbers do start to decline, either slowly or quickly. Wont they then claim Love of the greater number cooling off. Now we must work harder, pray more, do more.
I may have miss understood this love of greater number thing, but that's what I always thought it meant. In the end, less and less people will love God. If I am understand wrong, can someone explain. And if I am right, don't you think they would say that.
At the moment of what?
sorry had to go there.
can someone give me a sensible explaination as to why the jw's have banned beards?
i was df'd in '90 just as this was becoming a big deal and at the time i thought it was completely rediculous what with jesus probably having a beard.
it was one of the many things that led me to seeing that the gb make arbitrary rules and that the organisation has more to do with control than religion.
never quite understood what medical reason could there be for not allowing a man to shave
The one man I knew, he had such extreem dry skin, that when he shaved, his face would bleed. The winter time was really bad for him. So come cold season, he would not shave. I am not sure of other reasons. But I am guessing sensitve skin can be another reason.
