Why did they have to stop their book Studies? Must be more to it.
IMHO it was to stop unsupervised socialising among the dubbies. Lots of negs surfacing over the last few years, too easy for an exchange of doubts at such get-togethers.
ok, so what are the most deceptive comments that you have heard from your experience in congregations?.
my top three are;.
1) service overseer during the ’ how did we do?’ annual talk, twisted the figures to such an extent that it looked like the congregations ministry was in tip-top shape.

well done aussie's 60% voted yes.
i really did not think this would happen here there is alot of gay phobia.
i saw men on the streets holding signs "vote no.
Gay marriage only becomes possible in a culture once traditional marriage is thoroughly devalued.
Oooh..you're a brave one! I predict that some coffee-table higher-minded liberalite will be calling you a few names anytime now.

Frankly I think a lot of the supporters of the equality thing are just jumping on a current band wagon as a cause they feel the need to support. I see parallels to the Vietnam demonstrations' of years ago when so many attended with no clue as to what the hell they were protesting about.
Agreed. IMHO, many folk are confusing equality with freedom.
i mean, is it advisable to try to wake a friend up?
what about the risk of he/she falling into depression?
anger?
Those in Abu Dhabi do.
i’ve read that some families are not looking forward to spending time with their families and friends during the holidays because of their opposing political views.. isn’t that just ridiculous?
?.
My family are not divided at all on religious matters. We're just not of a religious bent in any way whatsoever. We do have differing opinions on the EU and brexit, plus some have reservations regarding same-sex marriage. It would seem to be a typical microcosm of many UK families.
We don't fall out about any of this. We've learned not to become obsessive in our desires to swing other family members over to our point of view. If we do discuss any controversial points, we keep our voices low and calm and back off immediately if anyone shows discomfort.

You have to ask for permission to grow a beard if you're in the UK Navy. Only a full set is permissable.
i think with all the child molestation lawsuits the watchtower corporation is and has been hit with is the main reason for all the prime property sell off recently.
the silent lambs protest back in 2001, and the dateline prime time expose probably was the death knell for the watchtower's hey day in brooklyn.. their membership is drying up, young people are leaving in droves, the situation is no doubt far worse than the annually published yearbook figures show and so they ceased it's publication permanently.
and those left remaining are experiencing a huge grab of money from their congregations accounts and now are required to make pledges about how much they can contribute which i think is a last ditch effort by the governing body to squeeze more money out of the rank and file watchtower indoctrinated drones.. i think all this is happening because even those still loyally attending are hearing reports of these tremendous pay out that the watchtower is making to the victims of their self serving policies that put young ones at great risks so that even the rank and file don't want to contribute to pay court costs and so are withholding giving contributions to a very great extent.
Seeing the antics of the WT society as they desperately try to extort more money from the faithful, mis-count their published figures and deny, deny, deny there's a problem to be faced somehow puts me in mind of Germany in the last few weeks of WW2.
in 2013 the revised nwt came out and changed the old edition's "fornication" and its related words "fornicating," "fornicator" etc.
in all their roughly 70 occurrences.
has the word completely dropped from usage in the witness world?
Oh ... and shagging the family dog or sheep ...
So that's put the mockers on the wearing of loose fitting welly boots....
i'm just curious to get people's views on this.. the bible students seem to start of as quite a liberal group under charles taze russell, albeit he had some whacky teachings going on.
obviously things began to change under rutherford.
but what decade did it become abundantly clear that the society was indeed high control religion or even labeled a cult?.
IMHO, the cult mentality became most prominent around the time of the Ray Franz saga. Definite moves were put into place to limit the time that witnesses spent together unsupervised. This was the time that any new ideas or thoughts could be exchanged between brothers and sisters. The DC's, at one time quite social affairs, were limited timewise as was the inbetween session periods, normally a time for meeting up with old friends. The meal queues were eliminated completely, always a favourite time to get together. Even the 15 minute break between the public talk and the Watchtower study was done away with. Inter-congregation organised socialising was frowned on too. In later years we saw the abolition of the group book study, ostensibly a caring consideration to reduce travelling, it did in effect put an end to any expression of individual thoughts and ideas being expressed among a small unsupervised group.
i have just began to read the above.
yes he is the man who created the fictional detective sherlock holmes.
in his first story called the "scarlett letter" he deals with (i stress this is fiction) with a couple escaping from the new paradise just founded in utah of the mormons.
..and Conan Doyle believed in fairies.
