It's just another way of telling us that we are permitted to have no 'joy' in our lives.
This is the real truth.It is not about "keeing the congregation clean" it's about sticking it to you in such a way that others are scared shitless to offend"mother" and will stay in line no matter how much garbage is directed at you.

i have always wondered why it cost so much to "rent" the space used for local special assembly days and circuit assemblies.... in our case, the society built a large assembly hall, on donated farm land (= free), in the middle of some corn fields 20 miles outside of columbus, ohio... the property has a couple of apartments where some of the travelling overseers live, who help with the upkeep of the building.
cleaning the building was taken care of because of our "privilege" to go out the day before the assembly to get it in good shape (free housekeeping and maintenance work).. so, the society owns the building.
it was built on free land.
I might be wrong but it seems to me that they have NEVER declared a surplus at an assembly. They always needed more money in the end to overcome their deficit position. When they used to serve meals at the convention I remember the old joke that "we can eat our way out of the deficit" Guilt seened to go a lot further with raking in extra profits rather than being honest about what was really going on...an extra skim off the top for the boys in New York.

Also DAing is exactly as it says meaning you are not a JW anymore.
I beg to differ with this statement.Once you have taken the plunge you will always be a JW until the day you die.The program of shunning will start and will continue unless you come begging on your hands and knees to be taken back.I know of one person,close to me who has beenDF'ed for 50 years.They still are shunned by most family members.You will never be treated as just another worldly person if you are DF'ed or DA'ed.
This is why if I am talking to anyone thinking of signing up to ask if they are REALLY SURE cause once you sign up you belong to them for life.
What I really hate is the amount of taxes hidden in the price. Oh well we could be in the UK or Europe where the gov't really knows how to screw a guy. Lucky in the UK a 50 mile trip is a major expedition so maybe they don't notice as much as we do.

a "circuit" (northern california area including south of sacramento and foothills) had only half of their expected attendance at the 10-11 april circuit assembly.
only some 600 from a circuit of about 1100 were present to the dismay of the district and circuit overseers responsible for the assembly.
of major concern was how to foot the bill for the event which is funded by member donations.
Around here there was a "strong" talk about missing the Friday of the convention. Lots do not want to ask for the day off. Many JWs have jobs which require a whole week be taken off, not just a day at a time and they don't want to waste a whole week.
I was at an assembly at Vancouver British Columbia in the 1970's.They stressed how important it was to be there for every single minute of their "spiritual feast" They said if you couldn't get time off from work to go to ALL the sessions you should just quit your job. After all as we well know JEHOVAH will provide for us when we put his (read WT) interests first. I wonder how many people bought into that idea.

i went to my local coffee shop at 11:10am on saturday morning.
not thinking that about 40 witnesses would be arriving.
there i was standing in line, the two parties in front of me were taking forever.
Of course,it's easy to tell when i'm around....Hey getting in their face is the only thing a lot of them understand. NEVER try to be subtle with a witness.
we'll be at the meeting on sunday with old jw friends (of a different congo).
it'll be the visit of the co we missed due to an apostata fest.
what is strange: i tried to prepare for the wt-study and could hardly go through the heading scripture (wonder how blondie does it every week.

it's not hard to imagine truly horrific things happening.
i don't think it's likely, but perhaps one day the major powers might even respond to religion-related terrorism by joining together to restrain or control religion under the banner of the u.n.. such events certainly could trigger a response from the fears/phobias that ex-jws may carry around with them due to years of wt indoctrination -- however much repressed these are at most times.

I don't think it is WISE to speculate on who will turn on and try to destroy JW's.I am sure that if you had read your watchtower daily you would have remembered this new light? Might you succumb to a compulsion to seek the protection of the "Mother" organization? Yep...At the first sign of any trouble I will just be running back to the only true religion that is Jehovah Approved? Seems to me that since things are looking a little uncertain right now future-wise for the West, it would be good to be considering such matters. Gave it a real lot of serious thought...
