amazing how since the begining of human civilization people were always displaying that negative energy proclaiming doomsday instead of focusing on bettering themselves. what is driving them ? jealousy,self-importance,arogance or maybe they are in so much pain or problems that they wish everybody what they feel?

I agree with Makaveli, we probably live in most exciting time in human history.

maybe if we can put our energy on helping each other more, maybe we can make "doomsdayers" silent.

thank you for your response - I do agree with you that nobody can own the truth or have definite answers. that is one positive thing that I learned after my jw experience - I know that if someone is offering me mind gymnastics to back up his statements or is so sure about everything- I ran in opposite way.

I became witness after being raised in comunist country and started to study the Bible because of curiosity - why would millions of people be drawn to it,and even thou I do not believe anymore in jws interpretation I still find the bible interesting, and as many are going to put down everything they read in the bible,there are as many that will support it.

this guy, Chuck Missler introduces himself as having personal background in the information sciences - computers,communications and cryptography;he holds graduate degrees in engineering and business, and spent a 30-year career in the hi-tech enterprises.

I know this may not be at all important for the validity of his claims,still it shows me that he may not be complete religious fundamentalist and that his study is based on some factual approach.

I guess I still have a need to believe in higher purpose of us humans being on earth than just fertilizers after we live pitiful 70 - 80 years.

Explaining politics to a JW.......

why do they act like politics doesn't matter ?

hi and welcome to the forum,

it is true what you said, but with my jw friends, who were from Eastern Europe, were had so many discussions about the politics and some very heated debates that I often wondered how could they call themselves witnesses.after a while I started to be very careful about commenting on events from that part of the world just to avoid being drawn into endless political debates.

guess witnesses come in all shapes and sizes.

Then he coments:" Here is a summary of God`s plan of redemption,hidden here within the geneology in Genesis! you will never convince me that a group of Jewish rabbis deliberately contrived to hide a summary of the Christian Gospel right here in a genealogy within their venerated Torah!"

for me, after leaving jws , is really refreshing to read different oppinions. I don`t know hebrew or aramic so there is no way of checking this statements but if this is really accurate then it makes it interesting. what do you think?

Sacrifices - choices

a couple of questions: .

if you could travel back in time and ended up in germany where hitler was a 5 year old child and you had the opportunity to strangle him to death with your bare hands....would you do it?

if an animal species could be saved from extinction by killing one human - would you do it?

I remember watching years ago russian movie about WWII i think it was transleted as"Run and Look" or something like that and it was from perestroyka time when changes started to happen in Russia,so the movies were less political propaganda. It was very dark and tragic movie about ordinary people suffering from german invasion and in one scene the main character who himself suffered imensly was standing and at his feet in a mud was laying a picture of Hitler in his regular pose - in uniform with his arm outstretched in a salute. now this young man took the rifle and fired at a picture and every time he fired picture would change to a younger and younger Hitler until it was a picture of a baby in mothers arm. At this point young man with bloody and teary face stopped firing- he could not kill a baby.

that scene always made me think because I come from Balkans were my family and ancestors suffered tremendeously during WWI, WWII and also civil war in Yugoslavia that lasted almost 8 years, and when I listened to the stories of survivors, I felt my blood boil and urge for revenge but that revenge was always aimed at addults who actually commited the crime.

evil in one man can flourish only when the rest of us keep silent.

My Sister's Wedding - Good and Bad News

ok.. firstly let me see i can explain this with out too much rambling..... for those who know me, know that i was disfellowshiped in june this year.

before this time, my mother, stepfather and sister shunned me.

since my disfellowshipping, i have not had contact with my parents and an occasional text message from my sister.. i found out last week that my sister was getting married on the saturday just gone (11th october) so i decided to give her a call on friday to wish her luck for her wedding.

I am so sorry for the pain you are going thru - you have to make some tough choices. situation you are in is obviously causing you a lot of heartache but there might be a slight chance that your sister may reconsider her beliefs and who knows maybe others from your family will take a hard look at what happened at the weeding. if you go back to the meetings just for sake of being with your family, but knowing that everything else is false, would that make you happy? do you think you can go back to having relationship with your loved ones like it was before, or would there be a remainders of your exit from the "truth"?

What about your fiance? what is his opinion, because whatever you choose will affect him too?

dear kelpie, I wish you all the strenght and courage at this difficult time and whatever you choose I will think no less of you. you are brave person and you will do a right thing.

WATCHTOWER WORDS

it is true that jehovah's witnesses have their own language.

an "outsider" might not have a clue to what certain words might mean.

for example, "the truth"-----if a person heard that expression, they would never have connected it to only the jw religion.....can you think of language that is exclusive to "watchtower" world??

or how about "present truth" or "we have the truth" or " they may be in the truth, but truth is not in them"-now figure that out; last one was being told to us when we stopped going in service.

New Swedish video up with subtitles (Anders)

ok folks, the swedish video is now online.

let me give you all a few 'heads-up' notices first.. the video format is larger to take advantage of being able to view the english subtitles!

for those of us who are swedish-linguistically impaired, we can read along with what is being said.

thank you very much for video, it is real eye opener. I really do admire strenght and dignity of those young peple to come forward and tell their story.

as for all those elders it was almost comical to see them running scared - cowards, but unfortunatelly it is not funny but tragic knowing that their arogance and total lack of empathy ruined so many young lives.

How come it still hurts?

i just shared some good news with a jw who i considered a good friend in and out.

i just inked a two book publishing deal with an imprint of warner books.

the publisher specializes in christian fiction which is what i write.

regarding your friend - don`t even waste any energy on peple like that; in my experience all my jw friends would always find a way to undermine anything I do, for them to feel secure they need to put someone down.

for hurt, yes it does hurt because you have feelings and you care, but friends like jws do not.

Before and after meetings: What was the conversational quality like?

i have been in a number of different congregations over the years, and i have to say that the level of conversation i had with my fellow believers, with a few exceptions, was rather poor.. here are some 'opening' comments.. 1) nice to see you at the meeting.

- i never understood this.

can you imagine going to a company meeting and saying to your fellow worker, 'nice to see you at the meeting'?.

for us it was mosty "hi" and "bye" type . Oh yes, also " How come you cannot find day job?" ( I am working night shift because of kids,if they need me, or they are sick at least one parent is home. I was trying to explain this and then I just gave up - saying " because I enjoy working nights?!"

basicly,most were just phony "how are you ?" and then they leave without waiting for an answer. true loving bunch
