  Ex-JW Friends - Learning Who They Really Are

  learning to find friends as an ex-jw.

  i wrote this essay because of what i have observed and experienced in the way of disappointment and reward in the relationships and freinds i have made online.

  i can relate to how you some x-jws feel about leaving online discussion boards.

  Excellent post.

  I have long felt that as JWs we were not truly given tools to create friendships. Not really. We were put together for meeting after meeting, field service after field service... and by being stuck together we made friends by association. We didn't learn how to find friends in other ways. Many xJWs when they leave, have difficulty at first making new friends. They are grieving over those we lost and have no real experience making new ones.

  Thankfully over time we do.

  I like your example of how even once we make friends, we still refine them over time.

  just head that my grandson has a bad kind of cancer.

  it's hard to accept stuff like this.

  i just hope they can do something to help him survive.. ken p..

  Why does this hurt so much?

  okay, here it is a few months ago i sent in a letter to da myself, the elders refused to da me ( there is a first time for everything, i guess) and well i just kinda let it go.

  over the last month i've come to realize that life is too short to spend it doing something that does not make you happy.

  i think that a very small part of me still held on to the idea that it might be the truth, but after giving it a lot of thought i've come to realize that i have not believed in this for a long time.

  Lola, it hurts, there is nothing you can do to avoid it. Even though it is their choice to obey the brainwashed rules of shunning.. when you first make these choices, it feels like you are doing it to yourself, because you know your letter, your phone calls are going to bring this on you and lose the people you love.

  But once we know it isn't the truth, it is too hard to not step out of the box..

  If you need to talk ever, I gave you my phone number before.. and I can give it to you again.

  We should get together.. do some things.. fill your life with things that are not with the dubs.. it will help

  Do Your Medical Records Still Say That You Are A Jehovah's Witness?

  i raise the question because mine did - until thursday that is.

  a routine follow up review appointment was my opportunity to place a 'living will" in my records .

  the doctor said "you are a jehovahs witness aren't you" .

  lol.. I suppose back in Minnesota with my old dr before I moved it does.. and if I ever went back I'd want him again..

  I'll have to remember to have that pulled from my file if I do..

  But here in Cali.. naaah.. not sure I ever told them when I was still a dub and lived here.

  Sometimes I miss the friendships and good times......

  there was a jw funeral i attended this past saturday at the congregation where i grew up and where my mom still attends.

  most all of my childhood friends were there.

  they had a movie/slide presentation playing at the back of the funeral home of different events, family members, congregation members, etc.

  That's why the shunning policy is so cruel and manipulative.

  you are so right. It's really been devistation to lose all your friends. Even 4 yrs out, I am still feeling their loss.
