there was an article in the travel section of the guardian yesterday on portland oregon.
it sounds idyllic.
any jwd posters from there?
I just moved here this weekend, although I have been to Portland countless times during my life. Portland is great if you like laid-back people and mild weather. If you are ultra conservative in politics you would not like it here. Everyone else thinks its great! Sherry
curious if anyone has seen "wicker man" with nicholas cage yet.
i have not seen it but have seen the original 1973 version, depicting a scottish policeman who travels to an isolated island to investigate reports of a missing girl.
sort of a twilight zone thing going on, with contradictory clues everywhere.
I didn't really care for the 1973 version I thought it fed into stereotypes of pagans. I won't say which stereotypes because I don't want to give it away. But then every film I've ever seen make us out to be evil so what the heck, hey?
Haven't seen the new one, not sure if I will.

i have not been an active witness active for several years now.
so are the women still being forced to wear skirts and dresses still?
i really think that the whole dress thing has been for some time now very outdated.
I think how they "allow" women to dress is one of the least of their problems.

more and more i find myself coming to a materialist view of the world.
i don't believe in afterlife, ghosts, angels, auras, astrology, revelations and the like.
so what am i to make of people who claim to have spiritual experiences?
Why do you need to put these other people in your box with you? You have your belief system and I truly respect you for it. You have obviously put a lot of thought into it and have not gone into it lightly. Just accept that we have done the same and have found something that works for us. Doesn't matter if it doesn't work for you, it isn't about you. What you have found doesn't work for me, and thats ok!
Peace, friend, we all have our own paths.
Sherry
hi everyone, .
we have a unitarian church nearby and i'm interested in maybe visiting, anyone got any firsthand experience of this particular group, their beliefs, understandings etc.
ade
Hi Ade,
I have been to the Unitarian Universalist. They believe that all belief systems are valid and to be respected. If you are looking for a place where they talk about the bible and jesus, this would not be your gig. They do talk to them, but as much as buddha, the Goddess, and many others.
I actually kind of liked it, except the pastor had some weird mannerisms that got on my nerves, and I ended up finding something closer to my particular path.
One thing that I thought was really cool, I visited their Sunday School, and the kids there were spending 2 weeks to a month learning about every religion. Who their holy person/s were, their major beliefs, their holy days, etc. They then made up a project about them. I think teaching tolerance is one thing, and it just means to begrudgingly accept, but truly trying to understand where another person draws their spirituality from can go a long way towards creating a more peaceful type of acceptance.
I think the music at the UU is probably the strangest I have encountered, but its kind of fun at the same time. The people at the one I attended were mostly very highly educated, politically motivated towards social justice, and very friendly.
Good luck on your search!

Sorry you've had so much to deal with. The wisest thing you are doing right now is being present through the pain of all of it. Dissecting it, looking at it, reflecting on it, and finding that you can learn and grow from it.
You go girl! Players are ugly if they are men or women! Glad you found out the truth about this person before it was worse.
Sherry
how do you tell your heart to not give a bleep anymore???
what can you do to shut it off completely, i mean, for more than a week?
eyes are hard to control sometimes, as are hands to type with.
Keeping busy is good. I inevitably find out later how blessed I am not to have acted on it. They almost ALWAYS turn out to be someone that would absolutely drive you bonkers if partnered with (in my experience). I don't know how many times I have been reminded that NO is also an answer to your prayer.

things that make blokes proud of themselves:
1. opening jars - she's struggling.
you take it from her hands, open .
What language is that written in?
lol
i am a 45 year old man who has lived a single life for so long, for too long.
i have dated several in the past few years andhave got serious a time or two.
but it never fails when someone comes along that really trips your trigger, you fall so hard for someone who really fits your wants needs and desires in everyway a man could want and then it happens.
Old Flame,
I'm sorry, I didn't see your thread until this morning. I'd offer my sympathy and sage advice but it looks like you may have it worked out. I'm glad to know you two are going to give it a try. Just remember one thing, communication. Its the only way to make any relationship work. It does need two, though, but sounds like she's talking, so you may be set.
Good luck to you.
Sherry
