You wrote that all very well. This concept has occured to me, perhaps not in the detail you gave. Now that I am out of the JWs, I tend to see it more in other people that I interact with. They are mostly Baptists or Nazarenes or some other highly Jesus Freaked group.

What I kind of notice too is that this abuse pattern comes in layers like a stack of flap-jacks. Religious abuse + familial abuse +food/substance missuse. Those all tend to be negativly reenforcing. To get out of one is a long slow spiral, that may also help end the others too. --I'm rambling--

I knew a guy who in his early 20's married a sister a few years older who had children. She cheated on him with his best friend. He divorced her and moved back in with his parents. He lost both his spouse and his best friend, neither of them were DFd. I really felt bad for this guy.

Then I saw the cat and my heart stoped for a second. Is that your cat Scully? OMG. I used to have a yellow lab that would mother baby chicks and turkeys. He was also sort of a surogate uncle when my cat had kittens.

newbie with a cliche post

i like many young non-jws i have meet a jw and fell in love,but i think what me different from the rest is i feel special.

i feel like i have been waiting like this all life from the time i was a kid to know, not a very good description, but i do feel that i a situation where i could win her, i feel that the starts are aligned for this.

i know that there are 5 weekly meetings, but can anybody describe them, and also the district assembly or something like takes place a couple times a year ?

What qualities did you find attractive in your witness friend? [Mind you, I am not nessesarily finding falt with her.] The red yummy apple that Snow White bit into looked appealing. Is it her emotional maturity? Kindness? What ever her traits, you need to realize that JWs often are very good actors, often even deceiving themselves.

I think that going to a few meetings is an excellent idea. When you arrive before meeting and before you leave afterwards, you may be warmly greeted by various individuals. This will sweep you of your feet. This tactic is called "Love Bombing". If you can see through the sharade to the oily manipulative intentions, then there may be hope for you yet. Hope that is to extract yourself unscathed and intact.

I would consider the whole meeting thing, as if I had been invited as a dinner guest by vampires. I know they are vampires, but they do not know that I know. From this perspective, how do their actions and possible motives feel to you now?

As for getting her out, well, I'd be disapointed in you if you didn't try. Work toward the best, be willing to accept the worst.

There are some really good answers here for you. If I were you I would take them and 'Reverse Engenier' them into very pointed fact finding questions. I am not good at this but as an example:

Can I still whatch R-rated Movies? [Note: preprep the person with info about how the JWs will answer this question. They will most likely NOT be given a "yes" or "no" or other simple direct answer. They will give a long wordy answer that drags them into the bible and leads them into the conclusion that the JWs want them to arrve at.]

Can I celebrate my husband's/Bf's birthday? [Again, preprep the person with the JW programmed response.]

What is Disfellowshipping? How does it work? What sins? [For this question pinning the JWs down on the actual social mechanics of DF might be interesting.]

Those here who have actually experienced a situation like yours would be more apt at helping you formulate your questions and strategy. Good luck.

The Society's Videos

what does everybody think of the various videos produced by the society?

i have one in particular in mind that i could not stand even while i was still "in".

had a really "bad attitude" when i tried to watch it in preparation for one of the service meetings in that series when they were covering some of the videos.

I only remember two videos, the History one with the German concentration camp stuff, and the People/Organization behind the name.

That last one bugged me, even at the time it felt like cheesy WWII propaganda.

Can you put up a list of videos they've made after someone gets your question right?
