  How did your family react when you made it known that you did not want to be a JW anymore?

  bigmac: in recent years--my older son got d/f--i found him through facebook--and we now have a good relationship. in fact--for the first time---i'm spending christmas with him and his lovely new wife--who is now expecting. as you can imagine--i'm thrilled with the idea i will be able to develope a relationship with a grand hild---a first experience for me--ive been denied contact with the first 7.

  Sad story with a kind of nice ending. I am glad that you are restoring your relationship with your son. I have not experienced anything similar, but I have a couple of children and my fear of losing them is what prevents me from totally leaving at the moment. Things might change in a few years when they become adults. Thanks for sharing.

  One of my main problems with the WT: A very irresponsible organization

  one of my main problems with the watch tower and, more specifically, with the governing body is the level of irresponsibility seen when lives of people are involved and their unapologetical attitude when people suffer due to their absurd policies.. how many people were imprisoned or killed for refusing to perform civil service in exchange for military service?.

  we do not know, but it does not matter, because the society does not even apologize for the harm their blinking light caused.. how many people died or contracted illnesses due to the prohibition of vaccines?.

  we might never know, but an apology is not on the menu.. how many people died for refusing (or disfellowshipped for accepting) fractions of blood when it was against the rules?.

  8 Year Old Getting Baptized!

  this 8 year old sister was the youngest of the 31 who were baptized at a regional convention in bogo city, cebu, philippines on the weekend.

  What a shame! The WT criticizes the Catholic church for the baptism of infants, but there is little difference between that practice and baptizing 7 and 8 year old children. An 8-year old child does not know what she is doing.

  The WT is always ready to pull out examples of how Christians supposedly bahaved in the first century, but they seem to ignore the fact that there is no evidence of the baptism of children by first-century Christians. Even Jesus got baptized at 30.

  But, of course, the WT understands that the earlier they can hook these members the better it is. If they wait a few years, when these young people start really using their critical faculties, it might be too late for the WT. But let's not also forget the (ir)responsability parents have in this regard.

  Read it in its entirety. There is always time and space if you are really interested: During lunch time at your job, at a coffee shop, whenever your spouse leaves the home, etc., etc.

  A Jehovers Witness until the day i die.!!

  i have met many who i call " jehovers witnesses untill the day they die".

  and i think one of the main reasons is jehovers witnesses do not wan't to change their living conditions.. i have reasoned that my motivation to awaken was i wanted to change my living conditions.. this motivation made me an enemy to watchtower indoctrination, which i now saw was blocking my energies for achiving my personal goals.

  the " watchtower club" had now become my enemy.. i was now able to question the reationalism of watchtower doctrines, and i saw free discussion was not toletated.

  I fully agree with your asessment. Some times we make the mistake of thinking that people do not change because they do not know the truth about something, but the reality is many people are okay with their routine and are not interested in changing their mind or their behavior.

  Philosophical or ethical considerations are not something they are concerned about and, if they are, they have decided that changing due to those considerations is worthless or too inconvinient.

  Great selection. Nietzsche and Wilde always seem to be right. I discovered Nietzsche while I was a Ministerial Servant and kept reading his books while an Elder. He is one of my favorite authors. As a Jehovah's Witness, you start your path to freedom when you realize that no one should limit what you read or watch privately. Your quotes and great comments remind me of how fearful many Jehovah's Witnesses are of philosophical ideas, or ideas in general unless they can find them in literature from the Watch Tower.

  LP97: And, if the words of the organisation are fallible, why do I have to unquestioningly obey them? After all, their predictions have a 100% FAILURE RATE. If a fallible person made predictions that had a 100% failure rate, then I wouldn't trust them. Why should "God's organisation" be any different?

  This one has been for me, and I guess for many others also, the main cause of distress. You are obligated to immediately believe and embrace any doctrine or prediction they publish, even if there is no basis to support it, but when that doctrine clashes with reality and has to be modified, they are ready to be infallible all over again. In other words, they do not claim they are infallible, but hey require you to treat them as such.

  just wanted to introduce myself

  i've been a lurker for quite some time and enjoy the forum.

  i've reached a point in life where i don't argue ideologies anymore so i don't have much to say.

  i've been out for decades and believe i've been mostly de-cultabilized (if that's even a word).. my family is still in and i haven't had contact with them in years.

  Don't these people read?

  The majority of Witness are not readers of anything other that WT literature. And also usually distrust any Witness that is an avid reader of secular literature.
