I recall an organization that was around in the 60's and 70's I believe. The preacher dude was white and their congregation was well mixed. Blacks and whites. Anyway, they were quite proud of this fact. Think the name was "People's Temple". They lived in racial harmony and all had a nice drink together in the end.

Oubliette,
ha, I was wondering if anyone here would have been there and remembered that. Good to hear! Honestly, I don't see how he thought that would do anything.maybe those around or a little older than me could understand what he was saying. But yeah, it definitely reinforces the "see, evil apostate, we must have the truth" mentality.
I also remember heading up to dodger stadium for a convention one year and apostates use to stand with signs on the roads to the gates. We had a big Chevy van and one of those days a dude was about a foot or so in the road waving a sign around. My dad swerved over and aimed for him and gunned it. My mom and sisters were screaming their lungs out as I was laughing. Anyway, the dude had two options. Get killed from a loving jdub or jump out of the way into the brush along the road. He chose the latter. Boy, my mom was pissed!

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

My best friend growing up shot himself in the head with a shotgun while his parents were at meeting. They found him on the front porch when they came home.

I was at an assembly in Woodland Hills, big white round building in Southern California. Anyway, right when they announced lunch a dude stood up towards the front and started yelling stuff about the watchtower and such. About 6 brothers ran down and carried him out to the street and sexually assaulted him.
Okay, i made up the last part...part they did carry him to the curb. I was 6 or 7 and it was all very exciting to me.
Oh, I remember seeing Lisa from Saved by the Bell there once too. I had a crush on her..not so much anymore.

I don't even know if they counted me, im not baptized and have facial hair.
Anyway, can anyone here explain to me what the heck they were talking about?
I took it has they will forgive the debt (mortgage?) of congregations but make encourage everyone to pay a monthly premium , 7 dollars a publisher or something like that.
Is this correct?
Thanks and happy Thursday everyone.

my mom and sisters went out too. When I asked why the heck they would bother people on a holiday she said they skipped the homes with lots of cars. Or that looked like they had company. Guess only witnesses got called on.😁

Wedding question
by lostinthought incan a witness get in trouble for attending an inactive family members wedding?
just wondering because i am getting married this summer and my mom tried to blackmail me by saying she and other family members would attend but only if i returned to the meeting.
i told her i am not going back to the meetings.

I married a J-Dub and our families did not attend. She was babtized and I was just going and studying - they said it would be supporting her decision by attending attend.
If I had married a "normal" woman they would have attended. I was raised a witness but never babtized, thank Jehovah.

she's baptized and all that, i'm not.
after the zone meeting i said enough.. anyway, she mentioned there's about 6000 anointed left and that armageddon would come before they all croaked.

Anyway, she mentioned there's about 6000 anointed left and that Armageddon would come before they all croaked. I asked what's going to change in JW land regarding the literal 144,000, would it be changed to figurative when those peeps have all died? Would they say some must have been imposters?
She just looked at me like I was crazy for thinking of such a ridiculous thing. She just repeated that Armageddon would come before the 6000 or so died.
I'm kind of hoping it gets changed, maybe she will start asking more questions.
Any thoughts about this? Sorry if this was a previous thread, couldn't find anything recent about it.
