How Long Have You Been Here?
by minimus in12 years for me and before i actually became a member, i looked at this site (jwd) for a few months..

About 2 months. So far, so good. I've read a few posts ask why we don't just all get over everything and move on. I've had the same reaction to some of the posts on here. But then again, I've got upset when someone said that to a post I enjoyed reading. So, I know sometimes it may seem odd to an outsider or one who has a different approach to dealing with things, but I enjoy reading and spending time on here. When I choose to move on and forget about jw and their teachings I can, but for now, I'm glad I found a place to vent my frustrations and feelings and get responses from others who relate. -

If Your JW Parent Died Would YOU Go To The Kingdom Hall For The Talk?
by minimus ini would like your thoughts, please..
-
mikeypants
of course i would, though I would probably hate the talk. I went for my grandma and really dispised the talk. It wasn't about her at all. It was more of a Sunday public talk. He just talked about how we shouldn't be sad or cry because she was already in paradise. Then proceeded to preach to the audience. To me, it was quite rude.
But really, if your parent is a JW and requests the talk be given at the kingdom hall, I would hope everyone here would attend. Like one poster said, u may hate the talk but u will get over it. If you don't attend its something u may never get over.
these are your parents, u owe it to them no matter how u feel about their beliefs, or how they may have treated u.

No words
by mikeypants inso, i'm visiting family this week who are all jws.
yesterday, it started with one of them talking about a co giving her some points on time keeping for service.
she is now writing a letter before she drives to service, so she can count her drive time.

She is now writing a letter before she drives to service, so she can count her drive time. My reaction, so freaking lame. We aren't trying to preach to others using our time to the fullest, we are finding ways to "cheat" hours. I mean, really. Does God really give a crap if you drive to service and count your time? Who comes up with these arbitrary numbers and rules? It's so stupid! And everyone just goes with it.
my second item. A friend made a comment about not being able to find the Daniel book on jw.org anymore. His wife said, "maybe it's because they are changing it". Everyone said," oh yeah, that must be it" and moved on. Not one question of why the hell is it being changed... Just complete acceptance in the org. Sickening and sad.
that is all.

Unbaptized Publisher
by naazira inwhat would you recommend for an unbaptized publisher that has learned ttatt and is inactive?
do you think it is best for someone to just continue to be inactive and live & let live?
or take time and write a letter wishing to no longer be an unbaptized publisher?.

mikeypants
@naazira,
I few times elders would knock on my door or call me. But, nothing big. All my family are JWs so i think they would send an elder to check in on me every so often. Might not be the case with your buddy.
Now, it's a little different. I am married to baptized sister, so elders have been coming around more often to "visit".
Elders don't really care for the most part. Yeah, a few do, so don’t get me wrong. Some are great people that only want the best for their "flock".
The majority of ones i have known have usually been indifferent about personal feelings or issues. Unless they think you are screwing around or smoking dope, they probably don’t care. They have their own issues.
Your friend should get professional help. Going back to meetings and counting on the BOE to provide any encouragement will only increase his depression.
Thats my opinion. Hope he gets the help he needs.

Can anyone tell me any narrative of having successfully avoided Baptism while being raised JW?
by SonoftheTrinity ini just worry for my stepkids about their future that way..
-
mikeypants
I was raised a JW - never baptized. My entire family ( 4 sisters, 1 brother ) were dunked at a pretty young age (12-15).
Narrative? I don’t really have one. I never believed it, not because of some philosophical difference mind you. Mainly because I was a normal boy, (um, as normal as a JDub can be that is) interested in normal things. Like girls, playing video games, basketball, etc. When being a witness got in the way of those things I rebelled. Was dragged in the back room after meetings a few times, there was an announcement of my being “bad association” from the platform one night.
Anyway, I just never cared enough to give a crap about what some older guys in the hall thought of me. I always found it odd that my parents allowed themselves to be controlled like they did (and do).
My wife is a jdub and we are expecting in a few months. I am working on her now but I dont know how its going to work once the child is older.
Tough road ahead. You say your step kids? So, are you living with them? If so, you can be the balance. That is my plan.
They will be free to go to meetings with their mother...but that means they will be free to celebrate holidays with their father.
