what would you recommend for an unbaptized publisher that has learned ttatt and is inactive?
do you think it is best for someone to just continue to be inactive and live & let live?
or take time and write a letter wishing to no longer be an unbaptized publisher?.
@naazira,
I few times elders would knock on my door or call me. But, nothing big. All my family are JWs so i think they would send an elder to check in on me every so often. Might not be the case with your buddy.
Now, it's a little different. I am married to baptized sister, so elders have been coming around more often to "visit".
Elders don't really care for the most part. Yeah, a few do, so don’t get me wrong. Some are great people that only want the best for their "flock".
The majority of ones i have known have usually been indifferent about personal feelings or issues. Unless they think you are screwing around or smoking dope, they probably don’t care. They have their own issues.
Your friend should get professional help. Going back to meetings and counting on the BOE to provide any encouragement will only increase his depression.
Thats my opinion. Hope he gets the help he needs.

Just stop going. Thats what I did. Not worth getting them involved, imo.
who'd have thought it possible?
but that's a headline this morning in the canberra times.. us-cuba diplomatic breakthrough: obama and castro agree to thaw relations after prisoner exchange.

Its a sign of the last days!
i just worry for my stepkids about their future that way..
I was raised a JW - never baptized. My entire family ( 4 sisters, 1 brother ) were dunked at a pretty young age (12-15).
Narrative? I don’t really have one. I never believed it, not because of some philosophical difference mind you. Mainly because I was a normal boy, (um, as normal as a JDub can be that is) interested in normal things. Like girls, playing video games, basketball, etc. When being a witness got in the way of those things I rebelled. Was dragged in the back room after meetings a few times, there was an announcement of my being “bad association” from the platform one night.
Anyway, I just never cared enough to give a crap about what some older guys in the hall thought of me. I always found it odd that my parents allowed themselves to be controlled like they did (and do).
My wife is a jdub and we are expecting in a few months. I am working on her now but I dont know how its going to work once the child is older.
Tough road ahead. You say your step kids? So, are you living with them? If so, you can be the balance. That is my plan.
They will be free to go to meetings with their mother...but that means they will be free to celebrate holidays with their father.
new member here so don't attack :d here is a couple questions i have been contemplating lately.. .
if jw isn't the right religion, then which one is?
or is it basically believe in god, the bible and you'll be fine?.
I recall an organization that was around in the 60's and 70's I believe. The preacher dude was white and their congregation was well mixed. Blacks and whites. Anyway, they were quite proud of this fact. Think the name was "People's Temple". They lived in racial harmony and all had a nice drink together in the end.
i remember about twenty years ago some teenagers were caught fornicating in one of the additional schools.
the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.
they weren't just happened upon, though.
Oubliette,
ha, I was wondering if anyone here would have been there and remembered that. Good to hear! Honestly, I don't see how he thought that would do anything.maybe those around or a little older than me could understand what he was saying. But yeah, it definitely reinforces the "see, evil apostate, we must have the truth" mentality.
I also remember heading up to dodger stadium for a convention one year and apostates use to stand with signs on the roads to the gates. We had a big Chevy van and one of those days a dude was about a foot or so in the road waving a sign around. My dad swerved over and aimed for him and gunned it. My mom and sisters were screaming their lungs out as I was laughing. Anyway, the dude had two options. Get killed from a loving jdub or jump out of the way into the brush along the road. He chose the latter. Boy, my mom was pissed!
please share your experiences..
I'll let you know in a few weeks...
thw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.
My best friend growing up shot himself in the head with a shotgun while his parents were at meeting. They found him on the front porch when they came home.
imagine.
