British Sociologist Predicts Possible Collapse in Jehovah's Witness Numbers
by slimboyfat ina newly published article by british sociologist david voas argues jehovah's witnesses may be about to experience a collapse in numbers.
contrary to claims by american sociologist rodney stark who predicts strong future growth for jehovah's witnesses, voas shows that jehovah's witnesses' efforts at recruiting new members have become increasingly unsuccessful over the past few decades: the rate of increase has steadily declined, and the number of hours each publisher must preach to produce an extra convert has gone up substantially.
voas suggests a reason for the stagnation may be that there is a natural limit to the number of people in a given population that are susceptible to conversion to sectarian groups like jehovah's witnesses - the 'carrying capacity' of the population, and that the limit has largely been reached.

144000 The numbers don't add up
by LevelThePlayingField inin 1935 there were 63,146 who attended the memorial and 52,465 partook.
(proclaimers book page 717).
according to the bible teach book on page 78, it says, “since the days of the apostles, god has been selecting faithful christians in order to complete the number 144,000”.

There is the rub for wt, although they deny there was an Earthly Calling before 1914-18
False, they do not deny an earthly hope prior to 1918. They believe anyone faithful from abel until jesus death had an earthly hope. From jesus death until just before 1935 was all heavenly. Since 1935(ish) both existed.
That said, the numbers in no way add up. Far far more than 144k faithful in 1900 years. That rediculious teaching never made sense and they realized it in the 1930’s, thus the up ‘othersheep/great crowd’ bail out.

Random Musing of an ex-JW between a rock and a hard place.
by StarTrekAngel inmany of you may recall pass postings of mine where i mentioned my plans of moving away from my current neighborhood.
mainly because my office got moved and now my commute is about one hour each way.
my employer is pretty flexible so showing up on time, for now, is not an issue.

Its a good point that perhaps your MIL needs help going to the meeting because of her eyesight and being in a new area. If thats the case then helping her get an uber until she gets to know the locals isnt unreasonable.... its a loving brotherhood, they will take care of her *snicker*

First let me say congragulations on your advancment!
Let follow up by saying, pardon me for being so blunt, whats actually the problem? You boiled it down this statment:
This means having to pay for daycare, and probably even a provider for her because we can't trust my brother in law.
The first part, yes. You would end up paying for day care if your MIL didnt live with you. I dont see that as a problem, per say, but yes an added expense. Given what your saving on driving (time, gas, wear and tear on the car) your making up for summer day care.
The second part i could not disagree more with you. YOU have made plans to care for her. YOU are perfectly willing to let her move with YOU while YOU continue to provide for her. If SHE chooses something different than that is indeed her choice. Not yours. And for god damn sure not YOUR problem to pay for some alternative.
See how that works? She made choices that lead to her living with you and being relient on you. YOUR house YOUR rules. She dosent get to dictate that somehow your wife has to meet a condition for you to continue to have the ”privilege” letting her live with you.
You need a little perspective, your MIL a needs a LOT

Material such as the film at the end of this years convention confirms that I was right to take my kids out the religion
by jambon1 init’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.
aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.
it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.

I would say your dead on, slim. If you believe what the wt teaches then this is accurate. Its objectionable when viewed through with non cult colored eyes.

What Should I Say?
by cookiemaster ini need a bit of advice.

Oh yea that is a little different.... but in the end not really. Your busy. Love to talk but perhaps some other time! All the best to you bro nosey...
it works. Even if they KNOW your ducking them it dosent change the reality: they cant make you talk. They cant make you meet with them and they cant df you for being busy.

Sure its easy.... the CO has limited time to squeeze visits in. He does it really as filler so he dosent have to do a lot of door to door crap.
Your busy. Whatever day whatever time they try to set up, you have something going on. Hasve a few handy excuses ready. Work doctor whatever... but your busy. Catch him next go round.
See? Your overthinking it a bit, really. Its not that deep. I doubt anyone has you pegged as an apostate. They noticed you slowing down and figured they would try to motivate you to full cultyness. Duck and weave and this wont be an issue
