"This Generation" change -- fallout evidence?
by reagan_oconnor ini was reading the recent posts on 2034 and was wondering... .
the 1975 debacle left the fds scrambling for explanations for the mass exodus of r&f who were disillusioned by their bs.
the pat answer has always been, "those people didn't keep pace with god's chariot" and they weren't "strong in the truth" and allowed something so "minor" to "stumble" them.

Bi-Sexual
by misguided ini guess my new-found freedom of personal expression is working its way down to my kids.. i came home from a crazy day at work, ate my dinner, was loading the dishwasher, when my 13-year-old son says, .
"mom, i have something to tell you - i'm bisexual...i've been that way for a year now.
i still can't help but have my old jw brain at work, thinking this is not okay - kind of like, i'm an apostate with a bisexual son...what will my family say?!

Search the internet - Google on keywords "puberty" "bisexuality". There's a lot of information on this relationship.

i'm new to the board.
can anyone please tell me what the current disfellowshipping standards are?

It will also depend on the relationship between you and your family. If they consider their commitment to the WTS of more importance than the bond with you, you may expect problems.

Acronym help appreciated
by sonnyboy ini've been out of the org for around 10 years, so i'm not up on some of the jargon being used on the board.. would anyone mind making a list defining the acronyms being used (as many as you can think of)?
i know there are tons of them; some of which are self-explanitory, and others have me stumped.
i see a new one every time i log on.

Good question sonnyboy. I had been wondering about some of these acronyms myself but somehow never got around asking it.

Hi Ozner,
You may be right, although the research mentioned in Marvin's contribution is from 1995 and indicates the same amount of dissent.

Rebel8, of course you're correct. The thread's heading refers to this study only. Nevertheless, it may indicate a general trend that warrants further research.

An article in the professional journal Obstetrics & Gynecology (Sep 2004) indicates that, if need arises, almost 10% of pregnant JWs would agree to accept packed red blood cells while another 40% would consent to a variety of donated blood products. Article abstract below:
Responses by Pregnant Jehovah’s Witnesses on
Health Care Proxies
Cynthia Gyamfi,
MD , and Richard L. Berkowitz, MD
OBJECTIVE:
To review the treatment options presented onthe New York State Health Care Proxy for Jehovah’s
Witnesses, which is signed by pregnant women when they
present for care.
METHODS:
Chart reviews were performed for all womenwho presented to labor and delivery at our institution from
1997 to 2002 and identified themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A patient was included in the study if a completed
health care proxy was available in her chart. Data were
derived from the health care proxy and from the Mount Sinai
School of Medicine’s Blood Product Checklist for Jehovah’s
Witness Patients. Variables of interest included age, race,
parity, and antenatal and perinatal complications.
RESULTS:
A total of 61 patients were identified. Of these,39.3% agreed to accept a variety of donated blood products,
9.8% would accept donated packed red blood cells, and
50.1% would accept neither from a homologous donor. With
respect to nonstored autologous blood, 55% of respondents
would accept either intraoperative normovolemic hemodilution
or transfusion of their own blood obtained by a cell
salvage system. No significant differences in responses were
noted for any of the above-mentioned variables.
CONCLUSION:
This review refutes the commonly held beliefthat all Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse to accept blood or any of
its products. In this population of pregnant women, the
majority were willing to accept some form of blood or
blood products. This information can be used to help
health care providers counsel a patient when she is initially
faced with considering these issues and may help to remove
the stigma of accepting one of the options. (Obstet Gynecol

This is from the Dutch edition of Consolation, Sep 1945 (my translation)
"God never issued provisions prohibiting the use of medicines, injections or blood transfusion. It is an invention of people who, like the Pharisees, leave Jehovah's mercy and love aside".

Less emphasis on 1914?
by richard ini'm not sure if this subject has been touched before but i noticed that since the turn of the millennium, the watchtower has paid less attention to "1914".
that is to say, when checking the frequency of the term '1914' in the watchtower from 1970-2003 through the wt-library 2003, there is a notable decrease after 1999. see the attached graph.
would that be a significant development or just statistical coincidence?
