o.k....most people that know me know me to be a rational and logical person not prone to hype or the sensational.
nor am i infatuated with the supernatural as many jw's/ex-jw's are/were.
with that said, let me relate what happened to me at work last night.. on saturday night, we had four bad burns come in.
Wow...what an experience. I just finished a book about such experiences and it amazes me how many people have such experiences. My fiancee's uncle had a similar experience and I got chills when I heard it, as it wasn't just a story in a book, but one from someone I know.
(was this, by any chance, a Houston hospital? I used to live in the southern suburbs of Houston...exactly between downtown Houston and Galveston....so, I just wondered if that haunted hospital was one I may have known.)
i watched amish in the city tonight and saw the village last night.
been thinking a lot about comparisons with jws.
i found the rumspringa thing quite interesting ever since i saw devil's playground (watch it if you have a chance, great documentary!).
We live just north of an Amish settlement here in Illinois, and believe me, these Amish kids are NOT angels like some people believe. My first husband's JW congregation was in that territory and they had some stories about those amish kids and their double-lives....and even the adults who lived double lives....which, I suppose, is not unlike some JWs when you think about it.
I've been flipped off by cute little amish kids....no older than 7....that blew me away, as I thought that they should not even have known what that was, let alone do it to someone! My ex talked about how they would get drunk (hide booze out in the fields and drink as they worked or during drinking parties by the youth), changed into 'English clothes' at school (those who attended the 'english schools'), cursed like sailors, had radios in their buggys, had pornography, and had premarital sex just like other worldly kids.
In fact, some amish have what is called, I think, "bed courting"....where young ones will sleep with their dates in the same bed with all their clothes on.....with no chaperones......now, tell me....how many do you think REALLY kept all of their clothes on? I read about this from some who used to be amish and from my ex's friends whose friends were amish.
I just think that any group that portrays that they are so meek, mild, Christian, holier-than-thou.....JW's included.....are just setting themselves up for a fall, because they can't all live up to the ideals that are set for them.
(oh yeah, I almost forgot about the amish drug ring...seems like some liked to earn extra money by getting into the meth business)

Why? I was adopted. There is nothing wrong with being adopted, in fact they can even tell her how special she was to have been chosen by them.
I am a very firm believer in telling children if they are adopted. It can be bad if, for some reason they find out about it later--especially if from someone else. I always knew I was adopted and I had issues enough, but I had a friend who did not find out until an adult....from someone outside of the family and it was very hurtful...they felt betrayed and like their parents lied to them.
ok, i admit it...as a jehovah's witness, i burned a book.
when i was about 10 years old, a sister gave my mother a box of books.
i had been baptized for over a year and was quite the "little witness.
I destroyed some good AC/DC 8-tracks (ok, so THAT shows my age) and some other good rock albums. However, I have since replaced most of them on CDs now. Long live ROCK!

Thank you for sharing those darling pics. I loved the one where Moose had that wrinkled forehead and was contemplating whether he should take that step or not! Remington, my beagle, can do that same look so well. LOL
ok there are so many americans on the map now i had to split you all in half.. valis was kind enough to let me place the maps on his website until i found a new home for them.. photobucket seems to be a good option - at least for now.

so i was reading through the website and i have a question... do they do any preaching or try to get people to join another religion?
i am considering possibly showing up to the convention but i won't go if they talk about god or jesus and make it into a big christian thing.
i'd love to go if it's more about meeting other xjws and sharing experiences but i do not like being preached at (for obvious reasons).
I live a couple of hours south of Chicago, and I went to the conference about 2 or 3 years ago. I really enjoyed it. I got to meet some of the people I'd seen online on various forums and really enjoyed it. Peter Gregerson used to go to one of the congregations I had also attended....although not at the same time as I did, so I enjoyed meeting them. And I saw someone I knew a child and hadn't seen for years, who also used to attend that former congregation, as well as an older couple who had known my parents as JWs many years ago. I even ended up seeing a married couple who used to be JWs in that same area and I was shocked to see them there at an XJW meeting. I, also, didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed the topics they spoke about. And, the best thing was that, unlike a JW convention, if you decided that you didn't want to attend part of it, no one thought you were 'spiritually weak'....LOL....you can come and go as you please and can feel totally welcomed. I don't know if I can make it up this year or not, but I would like to....maybe people from this forum will need to wear little "JWD" signs or something, so that we can ID fellow forum members. ha ha If nothing else, that is something that is so nice, to put faces to names. :-)

i was a 3rd gen jw, married to a jw for many years, divorced, remarried a non-jw, and am now raising little non-jw's.

Wow....small world, isn't it? I loved going to Kemah and eating oysters and drinking beer and watching the boats go in and out of the lake to the bay/gulf. We lived in League City for a while, but lived the longest in Webster. My ex-husband had lived there before and we moved there because of him, but with the only granddaughter at the time on all sides of the family...the 'guilt' made us move back up here to Illinos. I knew the Grays....if I remember right, they were in our congregation. My ex would know more of the people down there, since he had lived there for several years before that....and I didn't get to know too many there. My babysitter was Paris Hurd....she lived in League City, over near the high school, I believe.....over closer to the lake than us. When we were in League City, it was over to the west, on the other side of the I-45.

I lived down in Houston area for a couple of years....1992-1994.....down in the Clearlake/NASA area. Went to the KH in Dickinson....until started fading.
and his name is moose.
he's 9 weeks old, looks just like our dear departed dexter's baby pictures, and doesn't take any guff off ladybug.
after the initial shock of a wee thing following her everywhere, miss lady is starting to enjoy having a dog around who will actually play with her (dexter was very old when we got ladybug, and he was more inclined to growl and snap at her than play).

Moose is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a fat beagle who also eats like a vacuum on speed....LOL....I loved the description, it fits my dog to a "T". I sometimes wonder if he ever really tastes what he eats or not. I wish I could hug that little guy...I love puppy kisses!
Sorry to hear about Dexter. I knew he wasn't well, but didn't know he passed.
