I know it can be frustrating to see someone whose life is being sucked away by the organization like that. But ultimately you can only help those who take the first step themselves. They have to realize and question the society before the rest of it will sink in. I applaud your courage and compassion in trying to reach him.

A good little story.
by Atilla inwell, college is starting up next week for me and i had to go to campus today to pick up my books.
one of my friends from work as well as college has been nagging me all summer about this friend of his who is a jw.
my friend told me that they hang out all the time but often argue about religion.

my first family prayer since the fade...
by Surfacing init has been some months since my wife and i left the org.
my mother is an absolute zealot, and had heard through the grapevine (aka the underground policing comitee; we live in a different circuit and district now) that we haven't been to meetings.
she is the last vestige of guilt that i have remaining about leaving, though not in the conventional sense.

Egads that spiel sounds familiar..I do believe I've heard it before on several occasions
from several sources. EerieThere were always the awkward family dinners where the (non active) husbands wouldnt
pray so the women and kids would always sit around and have to say their own prayers.
Once or twice one of the men was guilted into it but that was as far as it went. And now
that I've left they look pretty lonely and awkward saying their prayers while the rest of us
sit around the food making eye contact.. -

You know, that makes me think of a new game. Okay, everyone ready? First guy to get something published in the WT wins! On your marks, get set, go!
Dear Brothers,
I was reading about a contest on an apostate website to get something published in the Watchtower. In an attempt to gain an unfair advantage in this contest I started reading back issues of the Watchtower. It was in reading your loving replies that I realized what a grave sin I had committed by leaving Jehovah's loving organization and got in touch with my old congregation. I have since become a regular publisher and my goal is to pioneer. Already I am conducting 6 bible studies with interested ones from the territory. Your printing responses from readers has saved my eternal life!
Your loving sister
...
Well guys do you think I'm a shoe in.

What's your favourite word?
by myauntfanny inbecause of another thread i got curious about whether many people have a favourite word.
i've never really gotten over my first love, which was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (seems like there ought to be a comma in there somewhere).
but that's not really a word.

The prettiest word to me is French six cent sioxante six, 666, pronounced: sees sahn swa sant sees
It has a beautiful symmetry to it.
Mmm I think a lot of foreign words are beautiful.
I like huggles..but you might not find it in a dictionary so I'm going to have to go with ecclectic.

Apostates are to be warned "Twice" BEFORE being DFed.
by gumby inmost who have been disfellowshipped or dissassociated from the jehovahs witnesses for apostasy, have never been given 2 chances if they have been found guilty of promoting 'ideas', that go contrary to the organisations beliefs, and rarely do two witnesses testify against you.
especially if they have encouraged others to accept what they are saying is true that goes contrary to the organisation are they dealt with in a fast manner.. .
however....did you know that all those who have been found guilty of telling others information concerning the organisation that is faulty are to be given at least two warning before they are to disfellowship you?.

And with the way the WTS has demonized the Internet, just possessing a computer with more than "Watchtower Library CD" on it, is going to put you in an "at risk" category, and subject to plenty of nosing around...
...I had plenty of discussions with other Elders and also CO and DO's about "wise use of technology" thoughYou have to wonder about those that discuss the JW singles site and other similar pro sites. I mean someone had to do a search to find them and you have to wonder what else they may have turned up. Of course any good dub will flee from the first sign of apostates and finding themselves on a website such as this would have many clicking the back buttons with a shudder. Truly they have done a good job about conditioning "the flock" against things they have difficulty directly controlling. I remember here a summer or so a go a guy we used to think was pretty cool (he was in his early 20's) in the congregation gave a presentation on the assembly about how the internet had been ruining his life and sucking him away from his family endangering his spirituality etc. And how since he had cut back and made more time for study he is a more spiritual person. Now he wisely uses the society's research tools in his personal study as well.

Questions For Jehovah's Witnesses Regarding Doctrine
by Corvin inrecently, xlaurax asked for some good questions to ask jw's when they come to visit.
the following is taken from ray franz's book, crisis of conscience, pages 330 and 331. these are very good questions and should do the job nicely.. .
what plain statement in scripture could anyone, governing body member or anyone else, point to and say, "here, the bible clearly says":.

Every single one would require intricate explanations, complex combinations of texts and, in some cases, what amounts to mental gymnastics, in an attempt to support them.
That is exactly it. But unfortunately the rank and file thinks that their abilities to perform these mental gymnastics just proves all the more that the FDS has God's backing.

Tonights the night
by SixofNine init's gonna be all right.
well peeps, i went to the kindom hall tonight, not to actually meet with the judicial comittee convened in my honor, but rather just to hand deliver a letter to the chairman of said comittee, telling them that they had "hurt my feelings by choosing to 'judge' me, when they hadn't even really seen me in about five years.
" *snif* also telling them to "lay off, man".. i really didn't know how to handle this situation, which i'd only first heard about 2 days ago.

As I read your story I imagined walking into my old hall, and man, it does give a guy the heebie-jeebies.
Ditto to that. I am thinking there is nothing and no one that can make me go back.
Congratulations on having the courage to handle the situation so well. Just remember they have no power over you and dont let them have the satisfaction of even thinking they are anything less than powerless here.
