After I reached the conclusion that the WT had no more hold on my religious beliefs I started looking at other belief systems. Mainstream christianity was first since I still had faith in the bible. I soon realized there were things there I couldn't reconcile and I started to look at the bible itself. After I concluded I no longer believed in the bible I started talking to other people and re-examining my beliefs from every angle I could imagine. I decided I didn't want to get involved in any religion that placed any sort of restrictions or stigma on gays. I was also leery of any religion that told me I had to believe as they did. I ended up looking at Unitarian Universalists and I still remain somewhat interested. I'll probably attend a worship there at least once. However I finally decided what felt right to me and that was to become a Pagan. I hid my interest from everyone until I had made my decision and it remains the spiritual path I'm exploring.

Choosing another religion?
by asleif_dufansdottir ina discussion on another thread made me wonder about what happens when we finally come to the conclusion that the society is full of sh*t.
did you take some time to 'get your religious bearings' before contemplating joining another religion?
or, was it a strong religious belief that brought you out of the jws?

So, what's stopping you from going to the hall?
by JH in2 elders came to my door today, at noon sharp, and i opened the door to let them in.
they didn't want to come in, so they stood at the door and asked me, "what's stopping you from coming to the hall"?
they only come once a year and always around christmas time.

- Not particularly wanting to sit through another scathing condemnation of gays
- Not viewing God or his purposes their way anymore
- Tired of pretending to be friends with people just because they are brothers and sisters
- Tired of hearing the same material rehashed over and over and learning nothing
- Tired of having to pretend to be greatful for the above

Euphemism I'll be going to college next fall, so about 8 more months home with her still.
The problem I found mostly was that most resources targeted at parents of gays really did not take into account the JWs. If mom was not a JW I think we would be able to work past this all to total acceptance. But I think she sees my sexual orientation as stealing me from her and robbing me of a future. I don't see it that way but we all know that dubs are not apt to listen unless it comes from WT HQ.

Thanks Rayzorblade. I was one of the lost souls pm'ing you as I recall. It's always nice to touch base with someone who's been there and understands a bit more. I hope I can be as supportive of other people as they have been of me.
Mom was truly the last straw in a lot of ways, I'd like to think now I can become the person I want to be. It's hard to do so while causing her the least amount of hurt. I feel almost smug when she starts in on the JW stuff because it has no hold over me, I know it won't do me any good. I just don't know how to let her down easy. Though considering she just walked into my room and said that she's glad today is over because it was the saddest day of her life I am somewhat resentful of her manipulations again.

'observe and do ' pertains more to actions than beliefs. He was encouraging them to keep the law.

Yeah I wish things didn't feel so weird around here. It's like everyone is putting on an act and stuff. I worry about doing anything that would set her off further. Sort of like the family secret no one talks about. Except everyone but the family talks about it more. I don't think she realizes quite yet just how many people do in fact know.

A culture of conservationism?
by seattleniceguy ini'm currently going back to school to study biology and biomimicry.
i'm hoping to work to develop green technologies - better energy sources, better product packaging, better waste disposal, and so on.
i'm concerned for the earth, and i sometimes wish that everyone would suddenly start consuming less or more responsibly, but i realize that it simply will not happen overnight.

The reaction in my area "okay *crunkles can in half and tosses*" People here to a large part can't be bothered to recycle. I've seen people throw a can in the trash when there is a recycling recepticle available. I think the problem is people don't care enough to go to any effort. I'm not sure what the solution is but that's the way things are here unfortunately.

I was sure I watched a Hobbit movie years back in class. Maybe it was a cartoon but I hadn't thought it was. Memory is fading I guess. I personally like the Hobbit (book) at lot more than the LOTR (books) so a movie would be good. But then I haven't had a chance to see the LOTR movies yet them being evil and all...
