crinklestein, I think they didn't think about the picture aside from it backing their ancient examples of the divine name theme. I doubt there is any more to it than that. They would like to forget that chapter of their history I'm sure.

Anybody See The January 22, 2004 Awake?
by ColdRedRain intoday, when i came home from the hospital, i saw the back of the 2004 awake and something struck my fancy.
it appears that it has pictures of the holy name in hebrew engraved in pyramids.
i opened up the magazine and it was filled with even more of those pictures, and a picture of a weird looking face on page 11.

Most block features just show you as offline to them. Some also show them as offline to you (a mutual cutting off)
MSN shows you as offline to them but shows you if they are online, adds a (blocked) note after their screename and won't let you message them unless you unblock them.
AIM shows you as offline to them and them as oflfine to you. You cannot message back and forth unless you unblock.
I imagine AOL would be somewhere along the lines of these examples. That being said if you emailed them at the same time as it shows you offline they could easily figure it out I would think. But not being an AOL user myself I can't help you test anything out.

Well I know fanatics that love to hash it all out. We were on a trip recently and all the dub relatives could talk about was who was in, who was out, "new light" and "impending Armageddon" because of "world events".
As far as youths went we rarely had discussions beyond what we could get away with. And these always guarded from the fanatic pioneer youths..

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 1-4-04 WT Study
by blondie inpriscilla and aquila, a first-century christian married couple, observed apollos giving a speech at a synagogue in the city of ephesus.
they know that the bulk of those baptized are children of current jws and that anywhere from 50 to 80 percent of them leave or are df?d/da?d within 5 years.. focus on people.
(2 timothy 2:15) (s) evidently (buzzword), they were serious students of the scriptures.

The real point is that JWs know that their salvation does not depend on having a Bible study, making return visits, or even placing literature. As long as they remain active by getting 1/hour/month in (15 minutes for the elderly or ill), they are set. They just have to show up at the meetings (they don?t even have to comment) and avoid the Big DF offenses (or at least being caught doing them).
And yet the WT still manages to guilt trip quite a few into doing FAR more than that. It's funny though, I dont seem these "regulations" for salvation outlined in the bible they claim to follow.

You're darn right. I won't even hear the WT Study!

***Dub tall tale warning***
I was told a story about a light on the wall that had no source. They ran around and shut all the windows and turned off all the lights and there was this light still hovering on the wall so they stayed up all night and prayed and after that sold the house and moved. Years later someone found some old coin taped to a foundation plank (or something like that) but no one could pry it off. When I was younger I played an rpg game on SNES with my best friend. His mom read the booklet and it talked about spells and skeletons that walk and things like that. Looking back it was very tame especially compared to "horror" type stuff in games now. I loved that game but his mom told me stories about how I would take it back to the video store and come home and it would be on my bed because it was demonic. Funny thing is I did come home and it was on my bed, I loved it so dad bought it. Mom made him get rid of it and I never got to play it again.

What do you disagree with the Disfellowshipping policy?
by ClassAvenger inwhat do you disagree with the disfellowshipping policy?

I think one of the problems is there is no differentiation between things that could "corrupt" the congregation and offenses that don't really affect anyone else.
Take someone who is speaking out against the organization. They could reason that this person would influence others and should be avoided. But is someone who couldn't give up smoking really that much of a danger to other people that they need to be totally shunned?
That being said I don't agree with ANY disfellowshipping but this only makes the whole policy even worse.

Santa Clause and lying....
by Oxnard Hamster inone reason the jws don't celebrate christmas, besides the fact it's supposedly an insult to god, is that they purport that it's wrong to "lie" to children by telling them santa claus exists.
i really didn't give the issue much thought until recently.
the jw i used to study with called me and asked how i was doing, and we eventually got on the subject of christmas, and he brought up that it's wrong because parents lie to children by saying santa claus is real.

I think there is a different between a "make believe" lie and a "real" lie. Though you don't necessarily have to make a big elaborate story out of it.

New manuscripts
by Wallflower inon another post shotgun quoted a scripture from john 8.. i have a copy of the new international version bible, first published in 1973 by the international bible society.. regarding the above scripture it says and i quote : .
"the earliest and most reliable manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have john 7:53-8:11".
i'd be glad if anyone can shed any light on what are "the earliest and most reliable manuscripts" and who are the "other ancient witnesses"?

Curiousity about current JW Views on going into churches
by Brymichmom ini've been following a thread on another forum where jw's are insisting that it is ok for them to go inside churches for weddings, funerals, etc.
they say it's quite ok to go inside any church just as long as they don't participate in the service by singing, praying, kneeling...etc...some of them say that they have seen "guest speakers" in churches who came as watchtower representatives.
when did this ever change?

There was a more current article in the last couple years as well but it's not on the CD. However the position remains the same. It's a conscience matter but slanted in such a way that your conscience should tell you not to go.
