i am canning today.
i got rid of all my jars, my pressure cooker and other canning paraphernalia years ago.
it seemed so silly to can anything for dave, myself, and our one remaining child at home.

My mom used to can fruits and vegetables too. Thinking about all the Mason jars lining the counters and all of the other stuff in the kitchen brings back some cozy memories. Canning is a lost art.
If I had one wish, I'd love to spend a weekend canning with my Mom and catching up on a lifetime of lost stuff due to JWism and family dysfunction.

i remember when i first googled "jehovah's witnesses".
i was sick to my stomach because i feared that i was disobeying jehovah.
although i was scared that i would find something "apostate" or "demonic", i still continued to click on different links.
Yup, no Google back then... it might have been Yahoo! or Hotbot in '95.
It was overwhelming at first... but the start of something that would begin to transform my life after being raised in the *organization* and knowing nothing else. I experienced the same thing as many others here... fear, anxiousness, but major curiosity.
I think Freeminds was one of the first sites I actually visited and began reading. The stuff about Ray Franz got me hooked on finding out the "other side" of things that were only spoken about by those in the know in hushed tones.
I stayed away from sites with an obvious hateful tone.

i had a good time last night as i visited the old class mates from the 1954 graduation class.
we only had 33 in our school class and 6 have died.

How cool for you to be able to attend your reunion with so many other classmates! I'm really glad you went.
On another note, I've been wanting to tell you how much I enjoy reading your posts. Every time I see you, you remind me of my dad. He's in his mid-60s now, an elder, and estranged from me for most of my life. I doubt we'll ever reconcile in this lifetime, due to the fact that I no longer attend meetings and he never learned to connect on an emotional level with his children. Somehow though, through reading your experiences and seeing what wonderful relationship(s) you have with your children, I am comforted.

when i left in the early 1990s i met support groups through the yellow pages but it still felt like i was the only one in the world who was an apostate.
i've come to this forum in the last year to browse because my brother has now left.
I was already having a 'crisis of conscience'', but the first two sites I came across back in the mid '90s were Freeminds (Randy) and The Internet Superhighway Freed their Souls (Jan & Kirsten H).
Kirsten was the first "apostate" I ever contacted and communicated with. I was scared to death. But soon realized that people are people. No doubt, the WT did a serious job on my mind. I'm thankful for her efforts.
Today, things look a whole lot different. Mainly, I'm not afraid of information, and I'm open to growth.

a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".
Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
No. When I stopped attending meetings I "lost" both. I saw no point in being something I wasn't to gain the attention and approval of others. Plus, I began to realize the difference between friends and people you hang around with because of a core belief system.
