Ian was one of my dearest online friends. His candid reflections on life, faith, and suffering sometimes moved me to tears; his good humor, his sincere interest in others, and his quick wit often entertained and encouraged me.
It may surprise some of you to learn that he was one of the world's foremost authorities on finches. He was a modest man and I do not recall him ever mentioning that on the board.
Those of you who are new to the board might like to read Ian's "Torn Apart."
He is deeply missed.

Scholar (Neil) --
I have not seen you on the board in the last month or two since I have been back. I would be interested in your reaction to Doug's Critique of Part Two of the WT article, "When was Ancient Jerusalem Destroyed?" -- he addresses many issues you have discussed over the years.

Adelmo --
Welcome to the board!
Just to clarify, I wrote to Dr. Sack last month and asked for permission to scan pages from his Neriglissar book and post them, but I never said I was from the "Archaeological Institute of America," and I do not have a webpage.
He says he has heard from a lot of people, so maybe he remembers that I aked for permission to scan pages from the Neriglissar book but has mis-remembered the bit about the "Archeological Institute of America." I'll have to go back and look up the email I sent to him -- perhaps I mentioned that my husband used to work for Biblical Archaeology Review, and that is what he is thinking of.

Leolaia: It may be worthwhile to note that we had two very good ("classic") threads on this subject here in this forum, with direct input from Professor Jenni:

http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/90425/1/Jer-29-10-Dr-Ernst-Jenni-replies-to-Leolaia-and-ScholarThanks for posting the links! Ah, those were the days!
I just finished re-reading the second one, "Dr. Ernst Jenni replies to Leolaia and Scholar," and it is a gem! I'm looking forward to reading the other one tonight.

VAT 4956 - Comparison Of The Lunar Three Time Intervals For Years 568/7 BCE and 588/7 BCE
by AnnOMaly invat 4956 - comparison of the lunar three time intervals for years 568/7 b.c.e.
the online sky view cafe (svc) and the cartes du ciel* (cdc) astronomy programs have been used for these results.. observer's location: babylon, 32 33' n / 44 24' e.. sr = sunrise; ss = sunset; mr = moonrise; ms = moonset.. .
svc's range of difference between its results and that of the text, when a time interval could be taken, is 1.75 to 6.5. average difference 3.5.. cdc's range of difference between its results and that of the text, when a time interval could be taken, is 0.75 to 8.5. average difference 4. .

AnnOMaly - Note that the IMPOSSIBLE! readings are impossible impossible for 588/587 BCE! Dead-as-a-doornail impossible!
From The Princess Bride: Miracle Max (Billy Crystal): Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. WT Writing Dept. (desperately trying to spin Lunar Three results): Maybe 588/587 BCE is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between MOSTLY dead and ALL dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. Maybe the clocks were wrong.
Memo to the Writing Department -- Your proposed year of 588/587 BCE for the 37th year of Nebuchadnezzar is not just MOSTLY dead. It is ALL dead. It is not even SLIGHTLY alive! When the moon has set more than half an hour BEFORE sunrise, you can't measure the "sunrise to moonset" interval (SR - MS) because the moon isn't there to be measured! Here are the Sky View Cafe results formatted to match the JPL chart in my previous post. Don't know why it is fuzzy.
