Sorry Heather, but I don't believe in fairytales, metaphors, etc.
When I'm with someone --- 1st agreement is --- I'm not the boss of you and vice versa. I'm not looking for anyone to take the lead for me. I can take the lead for myself. And that is how I raised my daughter and son. Be responsible for yourself. Be prepared for yourself. Don't try to 'subject' others nor accept that position for yourself.
Also, REJECT that biblical viewpoint - Men the head etc etc It is a load of tripe, after all the bible was written by men. Don't buy it hook line and sinker. Same with much of the literature that puts forth the themes you refer to.
This is what has worked for me. Another approach has worked for you. So we are both content in our positions and beliefs.

OMG i thought fantasies of white knights went out in the 50s.......I'm glad no one told me and I misled my daughter with my hifalutin ideas about independence...
I don't know about subjection, but as long as women are in possession of the *kitty* we do hold the power....we just need to make sure we wield it carefully and for good not evil.............brewhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

I have to chime in with shock and awe that I am unbelievably in agreement with Yeru! who'd a thunk it!
While I'm not French, I travel there 2-3 times per year. My kids were educated in French schools. I am a Francophile! and yet on this, ma belle France and I are in diametric opposition.
I agree with Narkissos that this may have the opposite effect that feminists are seeking... it is likely that the girls are likely to become further isolated, avoiding school or attending Arab only schools.
Assimilation some posters say? This is discrimination plain and simple. I do not believe for a minute that the wearing of a cross will receive the same attention as a scarf or yarmulke. The French are too deeply Catholic for that.
What should be happening is stronger consequences for discrimination due to religion or race in France. Violence due to anti-semitism runs rampant in many areas, and forbidding yarmulkes and scarves is not the answer. Suppressing freedom of expression or religion is not the answer. Strict Consequences are.

"Fluffy Edges"......I like that one! That's one good thing about being raised in the truth..........you become an overlysensative, naive, emotional wimp. People like that in a person, and I'm just the guy for the job

Okay... How many of you ski or snowboard?
by shamus ini grew up on alpine ski's, took up snowboarding for a while, until it got incredibly boring, and now i've been into tele-skiing for about five years now.
i just love it!
before my accident, i could jump-telemark nearly any slope.

I just tried skiing this winter and loved it.
Took the granny approach (although I'm not one, I felt like one at first out there)...and had lessons since I had never been near a ski. The instructor had been teaching for 26 years. I liked it so much after the 1st day (Weds) I drove back up on Saturday and spent the full day practicing.
I hope to go again once or twice in February and test out a real, but very easy slope.
You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
