What type of person are you attracted to now?
by Layla33 ini was just thinking about this the other day, about how my ideas of a romantic partner have changed since being a jw.. growing up, i thought i would marry a very upstanding jw, we would pioneer together, do missionary work, have children, see the world.
(never had any thoughts about bethel, though.
) so what it boiled down to was a stepford husband, up tight, not the least bit sexual, closed minded bore.. so now that i have grown up, seen the world, been married (and actually picked a good man the first time, although it didn't work out), i just contrast that with what i am attracted to now.. i like them open minded, earthy, i love artistic types because i am a published writer, hair doesn't matter to me (long/short, bald, etc), challenges convention, very sexual, still like a traveling man.. i am just curious if you anyone else can compare and contrast how their ideas have changed since breaking out the group-think of the jw organization..

Reinstated 5 yrs ago
by Treebe ini am just trying to understand what my choices are.
i have been reinstated for just over 5 yrs and still have not had my privileges back.
i am a single mom and have been to all the meeting that we can, doing our best outside of kids colds and flu's, not to mention car trouble, but i have always turned in my time each month and study reports, but still i can not answer.

I would encourage you to read the Watchtower Society section of this board and learn more about the organization that is imposing this upon you. Also, reflect on why you would want to be a part of a religion that treats you this way instead of with Christian love.
Many people here have gone through what you have and have found a better way for themselves and their families.
I say this with respect and care for you and your kids. -

Singledom - the peaks and troughs?
by Crumpet ini have almost completed the first year of my adult life (since 18) as a bachelorette and was wondering what others' experience of singledom is?
what would you say are the advantages to being single (other than being able to pioneer .
what are the things you miss the most about a relationship?.

Crumbcake: EXACTLY. It isn't the availability that is the issue, but sometimes it is the selection.

Benefits:
Independence in so many ways ... how you design your living space, your routine, lifestyle, time to focus on your own projects, ability to pursue any career or living change without having to consult someone or consider their view. Control of the remote (ha) ...
Downsides:
Lack of regular sex, no one to complete the 'honey-do' list but me, having someone to pursue shared goals/interests with, lack of regular sex, lack of testosterone / manliness in my space, not enough sex ...
I'm sure there's loads more but that is a starter list! -

I don't know your *story*, but my general reaction is ... if you are continuing to play their game, they will continue to impose their rules. If there is a reason for you to be there (family, etc,) you'll have to pay the price or decide if it is too high for whatever other benefit you are trying to obtain.

Does Debating Have to Be Abusive - To Be Effective ?
by flipper inmy wife and i were having an interesting discussion about some of the debates that take place on the board here .
now, granted most people , i feel upwards of 90 % on the board maybe higher try to be respectful in their debates or discussions on topics.
i think we all had enough bashing in the witness organization.

makes note of *damp son of an underpant* for future use. Hey!! *son of a damp underpant* would do just fine as well!
(btw, by reading this thread I have also gleaned that apparently debating does NOT have to be abusive to be effective, just repetitively long and sometimes redundant)
