Read a book about two years ago titled "The Shaman's Apprentice". At least that's the title I remember. (I'd check it out, but my wife's asleep in the bedroom and I don't want to turn on the light in there.) I'm part of a book group that reads a fair number of books every year.
Can't say it was one that I would have picked up off the shelf, but that's the great thing about book groups. You end up reading stuff that maybe you thought wouldn't interest you.

Is it harder for ladies to apologize?

she's a wonderful gal and we love each other very much.. but one thing kinda bugs me.

Yesterday I had a little spat with my wife. It's all cleared up today. She's a wonderful gal and we love each other very much.
But one thing kinda bugs me. In both of my marriages, I've noticed my wife has always been reticent to say "I'm sorry" or "I was wrong". Even when the little argument is long over and things are back to normal. Is it just the two ladies I happened to marry?
Or are ladies in general just a tiny bit less apt to apologize? I know that it's relatively easy for me to apologize. Does it have something to do with ones self-esteem? LIke maybe they think there "stock" will go down if they do?
Don't want to rile any of the ladies up, but what do you girls think? Be objective.

since the watchtower society has been reorganized and split up in all these (sub)corporations, i wonder where the real power is located.
my guess would be the wtbts of pennsylvania, inc. other ideas?

Don't want to hijack the thread, but wouldn't it be something if there was a hostile takeover of the Corporation? (Nod to Cruzanheart)
Guess it can't really happen because the WTS isn't a publicly held Corporation. But, what if some Donald Trump did? Take it in a whole new direction. Maybe start publishing New Age materials? Get those big ol' presses really humming churning out something a little different.

You've certainly hit the nail on the head, Latte. JW's, by and large, are the unhappiest people I know. They have been told to put all of their wants, needs, etc. on hold waiting on the New System of things.
How can you be happy watching all of your un-fulfilled desires for NATURAL things slip away? Alarmingly see your own body's energy slowly ebb? Waiting, waiting...
I know of couples, once young, who decided not to have children because of the closeness of the end! Now I wonder, do they dare think that they will never have grandchildren as well? Still they believe.
I am saddened also by the wasted lives among these people. What a crime the WTS is guilty of. I'm sad for the young kids born into this mess.

are you aware of some newbie ex's having difficulties with policemen or teachers or doctors or others in authority because of this hatred of authority?
are some newbie ex's likely to have difficulty in obtaining permanent employment because of their obsession with authority figures?

81 Year Old Sister Decides To Telephone Witness On A Whim
by minimus inbecause the elders would not give her her own territory, an 81 year old sister has decided to use the phonebook and call anyone she wants to, because an elder's wife suggested it.
she is a very confused, illiterate woman.
she told my mother, today, that it wasn't that difficult to randomly pick a page and start talking about the kingdom.

What did we talk about?
by seattleniceguy ini enjoyed a thoughtful discussion with a friend last night that lasted into the wee hours of the morning.
we two xjws talked about things like direction and purpose in life, religion, and the like.
about three-quarters of the way through, it struck me that this conversation would have been impossible only a year ago, when we were both jws, because we were objectively discussing these matters without regard for what the official jw party line was.

Actually, SNG, I had a similar discussion with my son during a lunch break today.
I remember when I was younger and my wife and I went out with other couples, NONE of the topics were interesting! Unless you consider sister so-and-so telling you how many studies she started that day, etc.
As a matter of fact, it's my belief that most JW's have an arrested development in the conversational arts. Since most of their thinking has already been "done" for them by the WTS, how can it be otherwise? I am reminded of the mother bird, say a robin, finding a worm, chewing it up for her little babies and then depositing it into their waiting mouths.
Except with the baby robins, at least, one day, they get to find the worm themselves!
Most of them live their lives in such fear that they don't dare have an opinion on any topic. (other than the party line) It's truly sad. Because most of them probably would consider themselves "educated" and "well-read".
