Seems genuine to me....especially since she is relating it first hand. And I don't see how this is exploiting anyone either. The lady ASKED them to come to her house and bring her magazines and study with her. If she only knew what she was really asking for...

Muslim Extremists & JWs----Living A Double Life
by minimus inisn't it amazing to see how these people can mingle in society and in reality be living a double life?
they may be nice to your face but ultimately, they think we (those who do not conform to their beliefs) deserve death.

and are willing to fight to the death for their religion.
JW's do not "fight" to the death for their religion to the point of killing and terrorizing unsuspecting bystanders.
I agree with Logansrun on this....despite any vague similarities (i.e. double standards, which is quite vague, there are lots of "double standards") comparing JW's to Muslim Extremists, especially in light of the recent terror attacks is irresponsible.

In defense of J-Dubs who post here, AKA JWD opposers!!!
by Check_Your_Premises ini just got an im from afin.
apparantly she can't post right now.
i don't know what she did exactly, so i can't speak to her specific offense, but in general i think the absolutely wrong thing to do is ban j-dubs who come here to debate.. .

I only read AFIN's posts on Gringojj's thread about his wife...but I must say...I saw no name calling on her part. In fact, quite the opposite. She seemed to be the butt of quite UNCIVILISED debate by a number of posters on this board. From an objective viewpoint, I would definitely say that the posters attacking her were not able to discuss things without getting emotional. It was rather embarassing for the board.

Also, this statement threw me for a loop...Disfellowshipping is a great thing at least IMO.
I have nothing wrong with the scriptural encouragement to shun hypocritical wrongdoers. However, the WT arrangement of DICTATING to everyone who they should shun and who they should forgive is not only unscriptural, but ethically wrong. According to their arrangement, families are torn apart simply because one member thinks differently. They don't even have to do anything wrong, JUST THINK DIFFERENTLY AND THEY CAN BE TREATED AS THEY ARE DEAD. I don't see how that can ever be construed as a great thing.

Smelly, For those that were (no offense, but you alluded to it yourself) half-ass witnesses, the WT organization never seems all that BAD (or all that good.) However, many on this board, myself included, were pioneers, servants, elders, bethelites, etc. So we invested a lot into the organization only to find out that much of what we were taught was false. I agree with you that due to bitterness many may tend to villianize the WT...however that does not mean the bitterness is not warranted. I also agree about personal responsibility and not placing blame on other people for your decisions, but as already pointed out, many have been wronged against their will. Whether or not the WT is a cult can often be an argument about semantics. But it is undeniable that the WT attempts to control what its members think, say and do. And they definitely attempt to control what information they take in (hence not allowed to read other religous or "apostate" literature.) Call it brain-washing, thought control, information control, whatever. It certainly is not an environment that encourages personal reasoning (despite their use of that word) or critical thinking, which makes a very powerful and dangerous entity. I hope you stick around this board long enough to enjoy some of the gems that are posted...they are scattered here and there, but worth the effort once found.

Incredible conversation with JW from WT headquarters
by tagurit inhey has anyone seen this website that has a recording of a jw researcher from watchtower headquarters that calls this baptist pastor?
the baptist pastor records the conversation.
it's really good.

Despite the JW being a jerk, he was successful in pointing out the ambiguity of the nature of God in the Bible. And the arrogance one must have to assume they have been revealed the truth.

I asked why the religion I was brought up in, as well as many other Christians, have a better record of world wide translating & preaching of scriptures to the ends of the earth than JWs. JW gospel preaching represents less than half of one percent of Christian missionary & gospel work. JWs have only translated scriptures into a tiny fraction of the worlds languages compared with other Christian groups, and have only succeeded in locations where they have followed in the path of other Christians.
This is great! I've never had a good response to the tired claim that they are the only ones really preaching. Do you have any info to support this? Or just the general knowledge that the JW religion is small and most countries were already open to Christianity. There has to be some countries where they broke ground in getting the Bible heard...Any further info on this would be helpful.

Our Future After Terri Schiavo/ What Hangs in the Balance.
by prophecor inregardless for how one feels about the situation surrounding terri schiavo, this will be a landmark case in american history, politically, religiously, as well as within the medical profession.
to put this woman to death in the manner for which is being done, is inhumane and ungodly.
criminals on death row are afforded a more deserving death than she has been given.

But don't you think that, when the judges decided that it was okay to end her 15 year long suffering, that they also should have approved of a humane way to do so?
Yes, but that would have been unprecedented and been dragged out in the judicial system forever, leaving Terri Schiavo's decision in limbo...unfortunately. I believe we are in agreement Fairchild. Respect her wishes and be humane about it...unfortunately our current laws only allow us to respect her wishes and be inhumane about it.
My post was mainly directed at Prophecor who is emotionally tagging the decision as "murdering" her, in attempt to justify his perspective of NOT respecting her wish to die with dignity.

A lethal injection, ending her suffering within moments is against the law, but putting a human being through more than a week of starvation in order to kill her is perfectly legal. Something wrong with this picture?
I agree, and I think Dr. Kevorkian should not be in jail. Unfortunately if you try to help people like that, you get sentenced to 15 yrs in jail.
