Iq Do Not Measure Natural Intelligentia (larc)
by mystikool inhere is article from net---.
recognizing that the binet test had its limitations, both binet and stern doubted iq scoring actually represented a fixed inborn quantity of intelligence.
as stern wrote in 1914: "no series of tests, however skillfully selected it may be, does reach the innate intellectual endowment, stripped of all complications, but rather this endowment in conjunction with all influences to which the examinee has been subjected up to the moment of testing.".

Causing 'Chaos' @ District Conventions ....
by invisible inceltic here.. i realise many of you are not yet upto scratch on downright going for the society, that's cool.. for those of you more radical activists out there, what better possible manner in which to cause major disruption and to teach something of our aims to a potential massive audience, than to attend a district convention near you.. saucepans and sticks don't half make one hell of a din.. digital cameras are cool too to record all activity and to possibly edit later on for possible leverage with media bodies interested in the event etc.. the point is, is to have a watertight angle on which to go in on, to cause the best possible effect to our strategic advantage.
that means imforming the media of our presence in advance plus many other initiatives that will be described as part of a longer post on this subject tomorrow.. take a leaf out of the uk road protesters and anti global capitalists book, they could teach us a thing or two.. so who's up from you bunch of slackers, for causing major disruptions this year?
bring your wire snippers with you.. peace.

Sudden Rash of JW Apologists
by NeonMadman inam i the only one who sees it as a bit odd that a large number of jw apologists has suddenly come out of the woodwork on this board to defend the actions of the watchtower society toward bill bowen, barbara anderson and the pandelos?
for the longest time, virtually the only ones on this board who advocated an essentially orthodox jw viewpoint were you know and nytelecom/mavman (though each of them could easily be classed with us "apostates" if the watchtower knew of their disagreements with the party line).. but suddenly, we have a bunch of totally loyal, utterly doctrinaire jw apologists posting almost exclusively on threads related to the pedophile issue.
most of them are taking next to impossible positions from any reasonable standpoint.

Are you defending the Watchtower, or defending JW's? There is a big difference. They are not interchangeable. They are to the average JW...but that is really beside the point. The only group that I am 100% devoted to is my family and God (I do believe in a God/Jehovah/YHWH.)
I try to keep a balnced viewpoint between Pro and Con of the society and of JWs as a whole. I do take offence when I believe viewpoints that are unfounded, unbalanced or biased are being spread and even expounded on through a group mentality, no matter what the topic.
If this was an NG about Microsoft and filled with Microsoft haters, I would no doubt defend Microsoft if a thread was started that I thought was unfounded or biased in a negative way.
I am here because I was raised as a JW, I am intimately involved with the organization to this day, and I like to hear both sides to every argument.
I think an essential to wisdom is to entertain ideas you do not agree with and accept their possibility. I try to do that by being here and reading posts, and I try to help others do the same.
I am not here to "enlighten" anyone, and that is one of the few mindsets of both JWs and anti-JWs that really chaps my hide, so I may snap back from time to time when spoken to in this manner.
Cheers,

Happy JW Marriages the Impossible Dream?
by IslandWoman inwhile it is not impossible to have a happy marriage in the jw religion for many it is hard, for some it is very hard to maintain happiness in their marriage.
the watchtower raises the bar so very high in every aspect of life, marriage included.
the watchtower literature encourages a jw married couple to be practically perfect, or at least that is the goal set before them.

I don't mean to take this thread off topic, but since you mentioned this...One practice is clearly pagan and the other could be risky.
If the blood issue is simply risky and there is only a chance it is offensive to God, then shouldn't it be a matter of conscience and not a disfellowshipping offence?

This business of dismissing critics merely because you claim they have an "agenda" is patently ridiculous.
I disagree with this. Not that I am arguing that everyone on this list has an agenda, I'm sure some do and some don't. But to illustrate how someone might have an agenda that could taint their criticism I'll use the following illustration.
Let's say a man is fired from a company because of a difference in work ideas. He is very mad at the company because he disagrees with the way they do things and thinks he shouldn't have been fired, but instead listened to and his suggestions implemented. So immediately after being fired, he starts telling everyone he knows, colleauges, customers, friends, etc, how this company doesn't know what they are doing and doing everything wrong. From that day on, everytime that old company hits the news or is talked about, how do you think this man will respond? Even if it is a topic completely unrelated to his initial disagreement, because of his track record, how do you think he would respond? If you knew all of this history about this man, would you not take everything he says with a grain of salt? That is what I think of when someone worries about a critic having an agenda. There's two sides to everything, and if someone is disposed to one side of the argument every single time, it makes others wonder, even more so, what the other side of the story is.
Your thoughts are welcome.

No one,
I don't think Seeker was referring to you. I think Seeker meant on the board there are a couple of apologists.I could definitely be considered an apologist, since I'm often defending the WT. However, I am not a fully active witness. I am agnostic and keep my witness status for family and friends.
I have disagreed with Bill and had arguments with him in his threads, but I don't think I've ever attacked him.

I've only seen a couple, but then again I skip a lot of posts. I may be labeled as one but I certainly shouldn't be labeled as a "totally loyal, utterly doctrinaire JW apologists posting almost exclusively on threads related to the pedophile issue."

PLEASE, let's not get into a dispute about the value of a millenia-old book in today's world.
Just to clarify, that was not the point of my statement. Rather, it was that since JW are a bible based religion, we would expect them to follow the Bible. Whether or not the Bible is worth following is a completely different topic and not relevant to this thread (well maybe a little.)
Detective -
I'm tired of arguing this on multiple fronts, so here is an abbreviated reply. We can only theorize what he might or might not have done had he joined another religion, right? We don't know what effect joining another religion might have had on his because he didn't join any other religion, he joined the witnesses. It's possible that joining {insert religious group of choice here} could have helped his marriage. We don't know, do we?
Correct, but you are not following the point. The point was the JW religion DID work for them and DID help them. That, in its simplest form, is my point. What unique advice does the WT offer on marriages that isn't available elsewhere? Isn't the advice of the WT to follow the bible or is there some other fantastic marriage-fixin' remedy that the WT has cooked up? Please explain what UNIQUE advice has been offered by the WT?
Their advice is not unique. It is from the Bible and expounded upon. The trick is, it is available and helpful. As opposed to this thread which seems to imply that the WT counsel for married folk is detremental to their marriage. -

JW Justifies Societies Pedophiles
by DakotaRed inbelow is a link to a site by who i believe to be along time jw and an article he has written basically justifying the watchtowers stance on the pedophile issue.
the gist of it i got was that since there is so much more of it in other religions, it isn't all that bad within the jws.
what a pity they won't open their eyes;.

Dungbeetle, you're a drama queen. I am not "constantly harping on Bill's statement" I commented on it on the initial thread and here. He posted a number of pedophiles in the WT org that came from a secret, unverifiable source. This makes it hearsay, whether it is believable or not. Do you disagree with this?
And if it will shut you up, I will send an email to Bill to ask him if he can verify these sources yet.
Don't want the facts, hey?
No, I prefer to live in a world of fantasy. Gimme a break. You are a nameless, faceless voicelss person hiding behind a nameless faceless voiceless ISP.
Hmmm, imagine that on a NG. You mean you don't see the video feed? I thought I had worked that in correctly.I don't know anyone on this list, so I have no interest in giving out my personal information. It's called internet security.
You are obviously only hear to rub salt in injured people's wounds. People here are suffering and hurting and seeking to make sense of unjustifiable wrongs that have been done them.
Why, because I don't go along with mob mentality? Would it be better if I just chimed in with something like "Yeah the WT sucks!"The outrage and indignation expressed on their behalf by the people behind those doors you preach at speaks reams about you
Really? That's interesting. Especially since I don't go door to door. What have you offered?
Hopefully a little balance. You can call me the devil if it makes you feel better. How you can come to a board like this full of molestation and rape survivors and spew your Watchtower filth is totally beyond me.
I'm starting to think a lot of things are "beyond" you.
