Killer God & His Body Count

does anyone know the exact number of people recorded as being killed by god in the bible?

not those killed by old age or illness or the acts of genocide that aren't given a death toll figure (like the flood), i wondered what the body count was for those acts of genocie that do have a documented death toll, or kill figure (god sent an angel to kill 100,000 etc).. anyone any ideas?.

I don't know but I can guarantee you it doesn't rate a 1 on the scale of 1-10 when compared to 20th century body count piled up by those (formerly) wonderful godless, atheistic, socialist, communist states. All told it is conservatively estimated that @100,000,000 people were conveniently exterminated for various reasons or no reasons at all by those icons of atheism- Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Hitler, Pol Pot, and other minor tyrants and dictators. But then I guess if you're not killed by God it doesn't really count.

I'm not sure where you are going with this. Nobody is here trying to discount the significance of senseless deaths and atrocities committed by so-called "godless" dictators. It can be argued rather successfully that historically more people have died or been murdered in the name of religion than any other cause. I doubt many people at all were killed or persecuted in the name of Athesim. Collectively, religion is guilty of more deaths than any single cause in the history of the world.

WHY did you get baptised?

i was just thinking back to when i got baptised.

and i dont really remember the real reason why.. thinking about it seems to bring up the idea that i only got baptised because of the way everyone treats you when they find out you are getting dunked - and not specifically to serve jehovah.. baptism day comes and you sit there and listen to the talk.

then you go out and get your swimming duds on and line up at the "whatever it is they decide to dunk you in".

I have two questions re: baptism..

1) I asked this in another post, but perhaps it was overlooked with all the other stuff... Do Jehovah's Witnesses (or have they ever) baptised "in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of Jehovah's Spirit Annointed Organization" instead of the Holy Spirit, or is this just an apostate lie that I saw on the internet?

2) For those of you that were baptised later in life (like mid-twenties on..), was there a noticable change (in the negative direction) in the behavior of the other members toward you after you were baptised? The reason I ask is that my wife continues to deny (to me anyway) much of the negative characteristics and lack of love, etc. that seems to be prevelant. Whenever I go the to hall ( not often) I get love-bombed. Mind you, she is 46 and has been attending this same hall for years, yet she is still not baptised. I almost wish she would go through with it just so she would see their "true colors". (The later in life caveat is there only because I don't know if someone 16 years old can properly put any change into perspective. However, all are free to comment.

one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

i was once counselled for joking around too much.

Mkay. My post got deleted, b/c it had a naughty word in it. It wasn't a nice word... but it rymed with truck.

So did my followup. I think someone (Englishman?) just didn't like the word. I'm cool with that, though I have seen it in other posts, literal or purposefully mispelled. Even purposefully mispelled, people still read it literally. I was just interjecting a little humour by pointing out that it is quite versatile, with many connotations. It would be a shame to delete it from spoken language. Some people would be at a loss for words (not me, mind you!) Ozzy Osbourne would be forced to sit silently (as would Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor!)

Any metal heads?

what sort of bands or music are all you guys into?

I never considered myself a metalhead, but definitely grew up listening to Black Sabbath. I saw them on their Never Say Die tour (I believe their last with Ozzy). They played after Van Halen (their debut album tour). The Ramones broke curtains. Being a guitarist as well, music is no unimportant thing in my life either. Ditto. Just think if the dubs followed a philosophy more in line with Neil Peart's lyrical prose. The reason I say that is that I believe that Rush, more than any other influence outside my parents and children, has impacted my life in more positive aspects than I can count.

I saw on Fox News that Alex, his son and his daugher-in-law ended up in jail New Year's Eve for some bar ruckus. The cops broke his nose, but not his fingers! He's still the best in my book.

today i had an interesting conversation, not with a christian believer but a muslim believer, .

he was trying to recruit me into the faith--so i thought i would pose the question to him about why his god watches as 20,000 believers (muslims) women, children, etc lost thier lives-.

his explanation i thought was straight out of a christian handbook on.

Me, a parent in my greatest of human ignorance, couldn't fathom harming my child in a minor way, let alone the magnitude represented here.

And all because a talking snake told a naked lady to eat a piece of fruit.

my mother gave me the last few watchtower and awakes when i visited her this week.....in the 1-1-04 watchtower, under the article---"jehovah's word is alive---highlights from the book of genesis---1"-------on page 29, the question is asked:"did jehovah god speak to adam directly?

" notice their answer.

"the bible reveals that when god spoke to humans, it was often through an angel.

Since I have never been a witness, and since my wife cannot answer the question, perhaps someone here can tell me how JWs get around the piece of scripture that says the 144,000 are virgin males. They conveniently stop short of that verse when prooftexting at the memorial.

Isn't there a passage that the witnesses use (not their main one though) for support of their stand on blood that says something like "The blood and the fat are for Jehovah"? I bet there are scores of witnesses out there that love pork dorks (rinds) (chicharron)!
