  Burnout

  no wonder the witnesses are totally burned out.

  i was an elder for some time and climbed the spiritual ladder.

  now that i am out, i have lots of time on my hands where i can be myself again, and do things i want to do.

  Yes they did. And at the elders schools we spend numerous hours going over all the responsibilities as an elder. I once was approached by a Circuit and District, and was asked as to wether or not this was so encouraging. I looked both in the face and told them, this is one of the most DISCOURAGING schools I have ever been to. They asked why? I told them that there is too much demanded and required of elders, and there is simply not enough time in a month to accomplish all that is needed. If you didn't apply these things, you were not a good elder and may have to reschedule your other obligations. And they were sure to leave you guilt ridden if you were unable to do all that was outlined in the material.

  I was a Presiding Overseer on top of that for two years. And had added repsonsibilities that I didn't mention in the opening post.

  Relationship: Do you hold back from saying all you are thinking?

  i have become so much more independent and in some ways demanding as i have stopped being a jw.

  there was a time when i was literally a doormat for my first husband.

  but i have found from being single and then add to that losing the grip from the jw rules, i have become more independence and in many ways more of an opinion.

  Absolutely not ! The reason you posted this in the first place, is because something is bothering you. And you are looking for direction. If something is not what you want or need, you owe it to yourself to speak up. Just do it at an appropriate time. Be tacful, respectful, and don't be on the offensive side. Look at it from the others viewpoint and speak freely. Just let your partner know what is on your mind, and ask his opinion on the matter. Ask him what and how he feels about it. And see if you both can come to a workable solution. Then respectfully and lovingly make a plan, as to how to obtain what it is you need.

  The saying "there is a time to speak and a time to be quiet", simply means that there is a time when it is not appropriate due to circimstances. But then you still need to address it later, otherwise you will build a wall in the relationship, and that is simply not healthy.

  "Time heals all wounds" is also an old wife's tale. Unless those wounds are tended to, nothing will heal.

  Give it some thought, and you'll be happy you did it.

  Can you get DF'd for having interactions with someone thats DF'd?

  That is just typical. Each congregation elder body seems to have their own rules. It is a known fact that family members are to be treated somewhat different than non family members. Limited necessary business is a delicate line for some and not for others. However the WT does state that others are not to meddle in the affairs of others. And therefore it's for each family member to decide what their conscience allows. However elders are quick to police these things. If you do your research correctly and have all the facts from the organization, you will gain your family member. IF there is an issue before a committee, you have the right to an appeal. And a new committee will be appointed. IF that still doesn't work you have the right to respectfully write the society.

  This is for family business only. With the exception on one issue. If you are an employer and have a brother working for you, and he gets disfellowshipped whilst in your employment, you are not obligated to fire him and can remain on a business level with him. However if you are an employer and hire a disfellowshipped one, you'll be called on the carpet.

  Also; if you have a family member and knows someone in the family who is df'd and needs medical care, you are obligated to that person to take care of him. And that is your choice as to whether your conscience allows it or not. If you are a publisher, you can get away with that. If you are in position of oversight, you'll be frowned upon, and may loose your priviledges.

  Why Depression Sucks.

  because you can make jokes and appear "happy" at the drop of a hat, meanwhile, you're being chewed up from the inside out.

  because you can't learn to take one day at a time because your good days are always overshadowed by knowing that you're going to just slip back down again.

  it's inevitable.

  Shamus, what's the point in seeing a doctor? I'll get medications that will affect me aversely. Besides I simply don't have the funds to see one. My ex-wife has stuck me with 51,000 in credit card debts. I am still paying my divorce lawyer. I am df'd, I lost ALL my friends and family, who are all JW's. I cannot see my kids, because they are baptized and won't talk to a df'd daddy anymore. My business is in jeapordy, I lost my home, due to my wife, I have lost 35 lbs since last May. I have turned to drugs, tabacco, alcohol and lived with two stippers out of shear despration. I am a survivor and will make it somehow. Life goes on.........

  No wonder the witnesses are totally burned out. I was an elder for some time and climbed the spiritual ladder. Now that I am out, I have lots of time on my hands where I can be myself again, and do things I want to do. Let me explain:

  It starts with Tuesday bookstudy 1 hr, Prepare for that 1 hr, visiting afterward 1 hr, Get there early 1/2hr

  Thursday: Theocratic Ministry School and Service Meeting 2 hrs, Prepare for that 1 hr, visiting afterward 1 1/2 hr, Get there early 1/2hr

  Sunday: Public Talk and WT Study 2 hrs, Prepare for that 1 hr, visiting afterward 1 1/2, Get there early 1/2

  Study with 2 kids per week, 2 hrs,

  Study with wife 1 hr per week,

  Personal study 2 hrs per week,

  Prepare for talks, 3 hrs per week,

  Sheperding calls 1 hr, per week, travel to and from 1 hr,

  Field Service 10 -15 hrs per week,

  Elders Meetings, 2-3 hrs per week,

  Committe Meetings avg 2 hrs per week,

  Kingdom Hall projects, Rehearsals for assemblies, Hospital Visitation, Visiting the elderly, Elderschool Weekends, Assemblies, Conventions, calculates to about 3 hrs per week.

  Totaling the above comes out to 7 hrs per day !! Where is the time for oneself?

  Have any of you out of curiosity ever gone back to a KH?

  i live really close to one in a town that i just moved to...thought it might be interesting to go and see what kind of horseshit the local dubs are getting these days, what the general mood is, etc.

  i haven't set foot inside one for almost 30 yrs.

  and wonder if i would notice any changes in witlessville.. wg

  Curiosity killed the cat. Nothing has changed. But we all have free will, and if you are curious.......... Just know the consequences. They ask who you are, where you live, if you would like for someone to study with you......

  had a call from an elder yesterday: "hi, this is elder n. we haven't seen you in a while, just checking up on you.

  oh btw, we haven't received the eldersbook back from you........".

  did he really wanted to see how i was doing?

  I have had the book for a while and I have numerous notes in it. Ebay sounds attractive, but then again I might not know where exactly I have misplaced it. A trade for all my service time sounds good also. Fair is fair right?

  What helps me, is to know that I am not the only one that feels like you do. The words you use to describe yourself is exactly how I feel. People always comment how witty I am. But inside I am a mess. That's one reason I hang out here. It's the only place I know of where I know people can relate to what I am going through. How long this depression of mine will last, I don't know. But I have been at it for two or more years and it's not getting better. I think it's just part of my life now, and I am learning to accept it. I don't know how to feel 'normal' anymore. I don't know if I suffer from it, or if this is just how you are supposed to feel. For me it's become a way of life and there are days that I don't see any reason to go on with life itself. And yet I am still here typing these words. Who the hell knows why. Maybe there's something inside of me, telling me I am someone special with a purpose. What that purpose is................remains to be seen
