Questions for DFShipped...
by LDH inhi, dfs.. first of all, let me say it is not necessary to label yourself on this board, or anywhere on the internet for that matter.. so many of us have family members that are df'd, it really doesn't hold much water round here.
i did have some questions for you though, which of course you don't have to answer.. 1. why were you disfellowshipped?
(pls.

Mark,
Welcome to this DB.
I'd like both DF'ed and you to continue to feel welcome posting here. Many of us here have already welcomed DF'ed under the Forum/ Making New Friends.
I've come a long way in the last 45 days but I still recall quite clearly how supportive I was of the WTBTS back then. I think he not only has the right to follow his conscience, but also the right to express those views here.

Having just inserted my plastic pocket liner into my shirt pocket, I will offer some nurdy considerations:
Is amazed by the communicative ability of mice,
Studies the evolution of rocks,
Doesn't understand why his phonograph won't play audio cd's,
Think's his pc has a great sense of humor,
Learned his socialization skills by observing ants,
Hobby is watching approaching trains while standing on the tracks,
Can catch the bus- but never has the fare,
Idea of a productive day is having doors slammed in his face while out in service,
Wonders why the moon isn't always round.
Wishes his shadow wouldn't follow him around.
Gagged enough?, I got plenty more..... -

NWT
by amicus inwhen reading the new world translation i used to sometimes think, who translated this gobbledygook?..
i just read another passage where the nwt manages to slaughter the english language.. acts 21:30 .
nwt ...., and a running together of the people occurred:.... kjv ..., and the people ran together:.... niv ..., and the people came running from all directions.. this is an excerpt from the foreword of the nwt; it is a very responsible thing to translate the holy scriptures........into modern speech.

Joel,
My favourite is the NIV. I use the NWT (large print, reference) to locate Scriptures 'cause I'm familiar with it, but I always go to another translation to read the scripture.
I don't have the NASB. Not yet anyways! Thanks for the recommendation. -

Larc,
I recently had a discussion with an ex-DO, and Gilead grad who met with F. Franz in 1958 to discuss his concerns with the translation of the preposition "in" ("en", Gr.), which F.F. translated seven different ways in the first two chapters of Colossians. After three hours of discussion he said F.F. was unable to answer any of his questions. He felt that F.F. had at best a "cursory and superficial" knowledge of Greek.
At least he could have used better English!
Eyes,
I haven't read that in the KJV in a while, I better check that one out too!:) -

I just listened to some Hank today, I haven't heard that one though.
One of my favorite lines of his "...the tubes and tires are doin' fine, but the air is showin' through."
He's one of the best singer/songwriters of all time, IMHO. -

eyes_opened,
I didn't think of consulting my "Edible Wild Plant Book"(smarty-pants), nor my Herbalogy books. I do know the plant is sometimes called mallow as well (it's native to Europe?). That's why I used the "why eat something tasteless reasoning". I'd like to know what translation is accurate (the NRS translates it "..or is there any taste in the juice of mallows?).
The wording is still priceless "slimy juice of marshmallow".
How could you read that Scripture to anyone and keep a straight face?Edited by - amicus on 4 February 2001 0:54:49

NEW RELIGION! NEED INPUT!
by TR inthis is sort of a take-off of the "what should the wt do" thread.. i need to get together a board of directors and elect a president and officers.
we need to figure out a doctrine, a manifesto, and a set of disciplinary rules.
we need to figure out a way to fund our new movement.

I just spent some time on a very tall mountain, sitting (crosslegged, of course) in a dark cave giving this subject some serious thought. During that time my hair and beard grew very long and turned grey -which of course means that my conclusions are extremely wise.
I think the duty of Accounts Servant should be a shared responsibility. This will allow me some spare time to help with other duties. The other duties I would like to volunteer for are; 1. Baptizer of unclothed sisters (I am willing to temporarily change my name to John, eat wild honey and locusts- well, wild honey anyways, wear my leather belt, and shave the first camel I come across to make my clothing), (Hey Camel! Planing any trips to California any time soon?), and 2. Official Observer of LDH when she feels it's necessary to flash the Press (ISP, there is always room for another OOOLDH).
Please note: My cave is now avaliable to any who seek wisdom. -

When reading the New World Translation I used to sometimes think, “Who translated this gobbledygook?”.
I just read another passage where the NWT manages to slaughter the English language.
Acts 21:30
NWT “…., and a running together of the people occurred:…”
KJV “…, and the people ran together:…”
NIV “…, and the people came running from all directions.”
This is an excerpt from the “Foreword” of the NWT; “It is a very responsible thing to translate the Holy Scriptures……..into modern speech.” -New World Bible Translation Committee.
Sooooooo, why weren’t people consulted who could responsibly use modern speech?
Here’s another gem.
Job 6:6
NWT “…, Or is there any taste in the slimy juice of marshmallow?”
KJV “…or is there any taste in the white of an egg?”
NIV “…or is there flavor in the white of an egg?”
I suppose you could argue that Job carried bags of marshmallows around with him, but why, if they had no taste? Maybe his marshmallows were nutritious. -
