In fact, the chute where we did the intense rapid was dug out and dynamited by those miners from The Gold Rush.

That chute is too awesome for words, while not a "true rapid" per se, it's easily as fun as any rapid on the north or middle fork of the American.

I spent the night freezing to death in June.

Ugh, trying to sleep while shivering is about as bad as it gets.

Where you put in, or take out (depending if you did the upper or lower middle fork run) is the area where gold was discovered in CA. There's a nice little old bar there too where you can suck down a few cold ones and get a bite to eat after a hard day on the river. ;-)

i looked this up because i was remembering it wrong.

i thought it was "do not go gentle into that dark night" and "rage against the dying of the moon" for some reason.

that was a little confusing because the moon has a rebirth and i was wondering what the author's point was.

I agree. I know war period is nasty, but the trench warfare so many suffered through in WWI was nightmarish. It's a wonder any of the survivors remained sane.

Tony Snow died today...

after his long battle with cancer tony snow died today age 53 he left a wife and 3 children my thoughts are with him and his family...

Interviews with Scott McClellan were pretty interesting after the release of his book was announced. Who knows what Tony Snow might eventually have revealed if his health had been better. Sometimes people make bad decisions for good reasons. Hell, some of us here became Witnesses with the best intentions.

Do black Americans claim Obama as one of their own?

i was watching an interview with a black american recently about barrack obama.

interestlingly he said that black americans find it hard to claim him as one of their own.

he said that black people would much prefer to have someone who is from the stereotypical upbringing of a black american to be the presidential candidate.

I don't think such a beast exists any longer. I remember reading a piece about Nixon a while ago, the author suggested that if Nixon was judged by todays standards he would be considered a Liberal.

Obama is conservative to moderate. We live in a time when extreme right wing conservatives make policy. I think the long view serves best when discussing politics.
