i had some harsh reality of disfellowshipping thrown in my face yesterday that made me realize how much i have missed being here with all you lovely people.
I am very sorry you are going through this.The most unloving, unchristian way you are being treated.
The hold the society has is very strong and there is really no understanding of it.Remember there are people here who really care
what you are going through. Im sorry about your sister in law. When the time comes hold your head up proudly and attend the funeral.

Scoobysnax you know the witness religion will never totally accept you.Why would you want to subject yourself to that?
I understand what you say about it becoming part of you but it also sounds like you will not find complete happiness with them
If religion is so important to you find a faith that will accept you totally for the wonderful person that you are

got married to a wordly guy who studied and got baptizedgot divorced
married another wordly guy who became a witness in his last days before he died of cancer
married now to a wonderful man who has been a witness 62 years
I dont go to meetings except the memorial,I havent been in the service since i left home
I have a study to make my husband happy but he knows i dont believe it
i was under the impression that an apostate was anyone who left the witnesses, was df'ed/da'ed, or was just actively opposed to them.
but i was reading in my hubby's old "reasoning book" that an apostate is one who professes to believe in christ (but not the jws), claims to serve god (but is not a jw), tries to pull away current jws or attack them.
so, by that definition, would someone who fades away and professes no religion still be considered an apostate if he or she didn't try to take anyone with them and did not attack the religion?.
I thought an apostate was anyone who didnt agree with the faithful slave and then told someone else they didnt agree
If you keep it to yourself that you have a thinking brain you are not an apostate
reading through some of the recent posts, ie; the topic of lazarus and the gay issue, i was flabbergasted at what i was reading.
i can't believe-well maybe i can, that some people on this site are calling gay people "faggots", and telling that person that they are going to get "what sodom and gomorrah got".. this site has been a godsend to me, and have been telling my friends how nice it is to be in with a group of people who can relate to my life, my feelings, my insecurities, and my fears relating to the org.
and not being a part of it anymore.

as i learn more about the borg i am continually shocked by what i discover.
i knew early on that they were pacifists but i had no idea that this included not honouring (or dishonouring) those that have died under war conditions.
i find it so hypocritical that the dubs are quite happy to benefit from the principles (ie freedom, liberty, justice, etc) that these men & women fought for & yet refuse to pay tribute to them.
The famous JW quote:" If everyone was a witness there would be no war"
It would be interesting to know how many witnesses there would be if everyone sat around while Hitler marched around the world.
They dont mind all the benifits of a free society.They use the constitution to their advantage when they need it in a court of law.
The reason they can peddle their mountain of books in a free world is because people died for them to have that right in a free society
The world isnt an imaginary paradise and unfortunately we need protection as 9/11 can attest.

so we all know that growing up in the organization can truly screw you up ... i am living proof.
but what happened today is over the top .... i am a school teacher.
i know of this situation involving two step-brothers (9 and 10 years old) who live together.
She would tape record the meetings (it seems like tape-recording talks was very popular back then). Everyday, when we were at home, she would set the tape player on the coffee table and replay the talks. She said she would sit right beside me on the couch with one arm around me and a paddle in the other hand. She said she started out with 10 minutes everyday and increased it until I could sit for long periods of time (I don't know how long she kept this up). It worked, though. I became one of the most theocratic, well behaved JW child you ever did see. <gag!>
I can relate to your experience.When I did not live up to my mothers expectations she would make me read the paradise lost book the pages with the scary pictures and i would have to read about how my tounge would rot and my eyeballs would fall out and how the earth would open up and I would fall in, sometimes we read this 3 times a week.It is burned into my memory.
I remember asking is she would miss me and she said the scriptures say there would be no memory of former things.
I think how bad our abuse was is in relation to how early we were in the organization.They didnt treat children very good back then
I blame the organization as my mother was totally brainwashed by them.Im sure she would have been a different parent had she been in another religion.
