Martin Luther King Jr. was not all he was cracked up to be. He was the adulterous "Bill Clinton" of his time. His name wasn't even real, he was born "Michael" and only changed it to "Martin Luther" because MLK Sr. was calling himself that. He had ties to Communism and plagiarized the work of another to get his Ph.D.

things that remind me of the my life as a jw (and i use the word 'life' very loosly) .

My parents in the 1970's somehow got hold of issues of THE PLAIN TRUTH magazine because it seemed at the time to be a general stroke-book for the Christian faith. But it turned out to be a specific cult led by Armstrong, who turned out to be against other Christians. Every article would SEEM to address current events in a vague way, claiming there were MORE wars, MORE drugs, MORE disasters and this only confirmed "Bible Prophecy". Half the article talked about things in the real world, then the other half twisted it around to some Bible quotes and that the only solution was Jeeeeezuz.

Much like the WATCHTOWER when it talks about the world only to convince you that being "worldly" is bad.

1. is it possible to worship jehovah without a earthly organization, just on your own?.

2. if jesus came to earth today would the wt society make him get baptized and then df him for apostacy?.

i was just wondering this because i received a book yesterday from my parents called "draw close to jehovah" i skimmed through this book and found nothing new, same old rhetoric from the 80's.

Also, why would the JWs say they are the "only" Christians to associate with? Rather selective in their thinking, for Jesus said "whoever is not against us is for us," chiding the apostles for trying to copyright the ability to cast out demons and cure lepers and whatnot. People are going to be Christians each according to their geographic area of the big beach-ball we call the world and each in their little denominations and little customs, but in the face of Jesus' example none are so narrow-minded as saying you have to join THIS group, based in Babylon-on-the-Hudson of all places, and do things just their way and no other.

hi, just wanted to introduce myself, i am 28 and from london and i am looking for some opinions.

i have family that are jw's and in my late teens i began bible studies.

i came close to baptism but was too scared about what i thought i would be giving up if i took that path.

I know the local police force were screaming for a bigger budget but crime and murders actually went down that year. Don't believe the people who say the world is getting worse and worse and wars and calamities are increasing. It was not just the WATCHTOWER magazine of the JW's giving that impression, it was also Armstrong's PLAIN TRUTH magazine (do they still have those?)

Let's look at it objectively. Compared to an ignorant shepherd of 3,000 years ago, you

1) live twice as long with that young 300-year-old medical system that really works

2) can't be pushed around by a king, drafted, or sent to war so easily

3) are ten times as educated in mandatory primary and secondary schools and can even go further (that is if you're not a JW)

4) are twenty times cleaner

but according to the JWs God spoke to those guys covered in sheep droppings but won't speak to you because "you're not pure enough". So enough about the "good old days" already. Seems to me the more strongly Christianity is in control of people like in the Dark Ages, the worse things are.

i just recently came across this web site.

being one of jw's for 20 years, of course i never knew any web sites like this were around.

i have been df'd for almost 2 years now and i still can't get it out of my mind that i am going to die.

The website http://www.freeminds.org even has a DVD or videotape series of an actual group therapy session with 60 ex-Witnesses. That's a good idea. Even if geographically you can't find a support group for ex-Witnesses you can see what this bunch talked about and even see them improve.

The awful feeling that you're lost outside the cult is an ILLUSION, they set it up for you while you were a captive audience in the cult. Life outside of a silly fringe belief is not so bad, really!

I was going to mention http://www.free-minds.org as well.

They even offer DVDs or videos of a therapy session for ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. People talk about their experiences, in particular learn to let go the awful feelings that outside the cult they are doomed. It's all a "paper tiger," an illusion, like I wrote elsewhere. Because the human mind can be trained to do amazing feats, it is a little TOO flexible because it will believe anything. Cult recruiters in universities were getting so bad in the 80's my university had to set up a Cult Awareness Week.

Anyway, even if you're geographically isolated and can't locate ex-Witnesses, you can see ex-Witnesses talk and even improve on the video series.
