Ever met high ranking JW and felt uneasy

this came up in another topic and feel it needs a topic of its own.

does anyone else have experiences of meeting (cant use the word 'brothers')men from high up in the borg and felt uneasy about it.. alanb wrote.

i was at twickenham many years ago (about 20) and went to the admin area to get info about serving where the need was great (great plan that turned out to be) anyway there were two elderly yet autstere brothers standing at the steps to the main office area looking as though they owned the place, they had a real air of seniority and importance about them, i have no idea who they were, yet sense they were senior one was english the other american.. .

The nicest DO couple in NZ, he did lovely talks, but we found out later he dropped out because he lost faith in 1914! There was another nice old DO who used to make us re-sing the songs at the assemblies if we sang them too quiet the first time! Sounds bad, but we didn't mind cos his talks were so warm and he told us lots of experiences instead of berating us.

On the other hand, I have felt the freeeeeeze of trying to have a conversation with CO's wives and getting an uninterested response. I'd say something that would make most women smile or comment on, but with the CO's wives it was like talking to stone! They live such miserable lives.

Then there was the slick-talking DO couple who met my husband and daughter in the street once, with the CO and his wife too whom we knew already. My 10 year-old daughter said she didn't like him cos he shook her hand really hard.

What Is the Real World?

the wt has it's own definition of 'the world', which they claim to not be a part of.

yet, in following trends, such as fear trends, ultraconservative fashion trends, allowing it's members to take in various media, such as popular music, movies, sports, the jws are part of the world.

yet, by wt definition, they are not.. sitting, thinking yesterday about my life, my social contacts, work, play etc.

after all, they start with an unproven premise and begin linking and linking and linking and suddenly they produce the rabbit out of the hat.

Weak link: The Daniel account says the tree represents Nebuchadnezzar.

Weak link: Nowhere in the account does it mention the words "in the final part of the days .." or anything like that.

QUIET signs at assemblies

lol...this one kills me.

again this year brothers had to walk the halls carrying signs that said "quiet please" everyone just ignores these poor embarrassed brothers.

the assemblay is going on and yet the halls are full of ppl walking, visiting, cruisin'.

First time I went to a convention with my daughter, she was a year old and talking already. When we went back to our seats late after lunch, for round two (ding ding), she said loudly "Oh no not again". Every one looked around, no doubt thinking "You said it kid".

Ah I'm reminising now. The next convention after that I went to the morning sessions and crashed at the motel afterwards. How on earth did people stay the whole day with a bunch of kids?

On the fading of 1914 ............

forgetful as i am, i just forgot the title of the new brochure issued at this summer's conventions, but it is something like "keep on the watch", and it deals with the imminent return of christ, the signs of our times, and the need for being on the watch, being prepared for the "any day now" return.. the signs of our times are mentioned, but not earthquakes, so they are "out" again, it seems.

but, the first pages make out the basis for the belief in our days being the last ones, the final ones, and 607 is mentioned, 539 and 537 - but not 1914, not the "seven times" or "2520 years".. do you remember 1995, when the "generation change" came?

in summer, the "knowledge" book was issued, and it also dealt with the signs etc., but for the first time, there was no mention of the then "present truth" that some alive in 1914 would still be alive and witness the return.

Yeah, I think Neo's post is insightful. To me, it seemed like in the last few months of my fade-out (about a year ago), they were stressing 1914 more, but that may just be because 1914 really annoyed me so I was sensitive to its mention!

Eventually they'll have to assign 1914 into irrelevant history. To young ones it must seem like ancient history already.

Can't wait to get a copy of the new brochure! (NZ hasn't had DC's yet). Tho I'm sure it will be anti-climax, LOL.

Just want to commend Littletoe on his poem - i love it.

Is funny I never appreciated reflective poetry like that when I was a JW, am more appreciative now that it's now possible to do some self-reflection!

Satan's Direct Attack

the watchtower, june 1, 2003 issue, page 20, paragraph 11:

"gog of magog is identified as satan the devil in his debased condition since 1914. as a spirit creature, he cannot carry out his attack directly, but will use human agencies to do his deeds.

Hmm, that's one 2004 WT I don't appear to have. I remember the June 2003 one vividly because I answered up on that para, pointing out that this was a change of thought, that the Isaiaih book had identified the Gog of Magog attack as to come out of the UN. Of course, I didn't mention the reason they were quietly dropping the UN (the NGO scandal), but I was seething at the time. But no-one around me seemed to care, they were as zombie-like as ever at a WT study. I pity them.

ANyway back to the subject, I would be careful not to jump to the conclusion that the 2004 mag is a change of thought without seeing mor context. It might be that it is their usual warnings about Satan, just that they usually say "indirect" attack or "machinations". Don't know why they're saying "direct attack" here.

May we see more of the surrounding text please?

Hey just on this topic, I had a phone call from my JW mum. I thought she was going to express disappointment about my letter which was in reply to her letter encouraging me to go back to meetings (she thought it was just because of business). To my surprise, she said "Thank you for your letter and the nice photo". Then she started talking about normal everyday news! I was so pleased we didn't get into an argument!

In my letter I was candid but careful not to inflame. I wrote that I recalled her relating to me once, that one of the reasons she left her old church to become a JW was because she didn't learn anythnig at church. I told her it felt the same for me leaving the JW organisation. Maybe that helped. I like to think so.

And i appreciate the suggestions here.
