Wouldn't it be better for them to disfellowship, not just the individual, but his entire family, in order to fully apply the "principles" of the old testament?

Another example of a loving God.
by jula71 ini was looking through the newest wt just to see what "new light" there is now.
i came across the questions from readers, and i was amazed by what i read.
from the may 15, 2005 wt, the question was "why were david and bath-sheba not put to death for committing adultery, whereas their newborn son died?

The Search For a Paradise Earth

there is only one significant constant in life and that constant is simply: we all die.
no matter how successful we become, we will die.

Did You Have A Lot of "Friends" In The Organization?
by minimus inwere you associated with regularly?
did you have many friends?
were you the life of the party?

I used to have a few, but I never really trusted them enough to think of them as real friends. I avoided making any more friends after these either wrote me off or moved away. I could tell the JWs weren't really my type of people.

I remember not believing it when I was really young. Wondering how they could really be sure they were the faithful and discreet slave, thinking their explanations were really a big stretch. But eventually, I began thinking their message of "good news" was about the worst possible thing that could happen, and since the worst possible thing usually does happen, then maybe they are on to something. That's just pessimistic, but I think the whole world view eventually got to me. Also, I always worried about everything. If I hadn't been that way, maybe I would have had a more positive attitude and more confidence to question.

The Watchtower and the Vatican Have No Choice
by metatron ini was amused to watch the news about cardinal ratzinger's elevation to the papacy.. there was plenty of talk of 'uniting all christians' and other sweettalk - all designed to paper.
over the fact that this german hierarch isn't popular even in his native deuschland.. now why would they elect such a leader?
why would they promote the "panzer cardinal".

interesting post, metatron!
doinmypart- yeah, I agree. I think they really feel and see the growing apathy and restlessness of their followers. But you know how the saying goes, the more they tighten their grip, the more people will slip through their fingers. We can only hope it won't be long.

Beware of the internet......from the meeting last night
by JH inthey took 15 minutes to remind us of the dangers of the internet.
be careful to whom you chat with.
make sure it's with "good" jw your chatting with, they said.. what they didn't say was, where the heck do you go to chat with a jw online?

Free, safe and open communication. Something we never had before. Something so simple, and it will be their biggest problem. Shows how fragile their house of cards truly is.

What religion have you changed to now that no longer a witness?
by AK - Jeff ini know many have rejected the idea of organized religion.
i teeter on that myself.
but i have toyed with hooking to a little country church with some friendly people to associate with.

Yeah, I totally get what Kilroy is saying.
Not so sure its good to group all christians, moslems, agnostics etc into headings like the Watchtower does. Aren't they individual people just like atheists?
No, it's not PC to say all muslims will fly a plane into a building upon command, and it doesn't make sense. I think Kilroy was saying, these people didn't act alone, as individuals. They did what they were told. They are controlled by religion. Not all religion is that radical these days, but I completely agree with Kilroy's general idea. Religion is not for me!

Would you change your past if you could?
by John Doe ini used to live with many regrets, thinking that i'd screwed up.
recently, i've been thinking that regretting past actions is not constructive.
sure, we should base our current actions by assessing the results of our former actions, but regretting decisions we've made is, in effect, yearning to change the person we are now or rejecting ourselves.

Who couldn't say they wished they knew then what they know now? Still, I see your point about it, but, damn, I wish I knew then what I know now. And I'll probably be saying it again at 60 when I look back on now!

Living with Soundness of Mind in an Electronic Age - KM Part this week
by ezekiel3 inlooks like it is time to remind the flock that jwd is deathdealing.
this week service meetings are recycling old kingdom ministry articles regarding the danger of electronic communication such as the internet and email.. .
like i heard at a recent circuit assembly, "don't let your mouse turn you into a rat!".

I hope it will peak people's interest.
"What are they hiding?" "What don't they want us to see?" "What are they so afraid of?" "If we have 'the truth', what do we have to fear?"
There is a scripture that says, "We can do nothing against the truth, only for the truth." I have it written at home. If this is the case, and they have "the truth", then what harm can come from researching other ppl's views about their religion?
Jez
Exactly, Jez! If what they have is truth, why are they so worried about what people write about them? If it's really truth, it would hold up under scrutiny. They can't handle the truth!
They are really pissed off at their people for doing this, huh! Bad dubbies! Bad! But, internet surfing can't be policed. Too easy to get away with. They only have guilt trips, asking their dubbies to enforce this on themselves. Guilt trips won't keep working. They use it too much.

how can you stay?
by zaphod in.
speaking as someone who believed it all right up until about a year after i was df'd i just cannot understand the reasoning of people who don't go out on field service, don't go to meetings, don't participate or believe and still stay in the organisation.. i know that it is hard to leave, it's made to be hard, but some of the postings on this site make me think that it must be harder still living a lie and keeping up the pretense.. if you don't believe, why would you want to conform to all the petty rules and subject yourself to men that you don't believe have any authority.. i really do hope that as soon as possible you can all take a deep breath and finally be true to yourself.. zaphod

Yeah, I agree with what everyone said, especially IP SEC's idea of getting all the ducks in a row. I've always rushed into everything without thinking it through and gotten myself knee deep in sh*t. Out of fear of what will happen, on this stuff I have hesitated to do anything yet, and I think that was a good decision, for once.
I definitely wish I didn't have to go through this crap, but on the other hand, it's not a good time for me to go. I don't expect to help anybody out of the cult, and I'm about to quit trying. But until I've got all my ducks in a row, I'm just going to keep up the pretense. For once, I'm thinking about my needs, too, you know? I need to do this right now, for a few different reasons.
I don't worry about getting caught in a double life anymore, though. I need my double life. If it gets discovered, well fine. I did my best.
I wish every day that something could be done for all those trapped in this thing.
