Is it legal for the WT to Disassociate someone?

since it is well defined that when the wt kicks you out you are disfellowshipped - there action.

and that when you want to leave you disassociate - your action.

how is it that the wt can da you?

Could this not be considered a slanderous act causing great emotional pain? For instance I am not D'Ad and I am protecting this status in order to be able to communicate with my own JW sister (though it is pretty shallow communication these days.) If the Org D'Ad me she will no longer associate with me, thus causing us both great emotional pain. My elderly non-JW father is also grieved by all of this JW business, being that my nephews are Dfd and no longer can communicate with their mom. It would be a further stress my Father if my sister was instructed to no longer communicate with me. One stupid word from a bunch of local idiot elders and my whole family is torn apart. Somehow this seems illegal to me. If they ever tell me they are going to DA Me I am going to state that "I will then personally sue you for slander"--it may not work, but at least it will give them something to think about.

any thoughts on this?

Why Is A "Non-violent" People So Violent To Its Young?

one of the anomalies of the jehovah's witness worldview is that it "carries" its non-violence hand-in-hand with some fairly violent practices towards its young ones.

so, the jehovah's witness father or mother who would reject any involvement in the military or "turn the other cheek" if physically attacked in field service, has no qualms about yanking their noisy child out of the kingdom hall and giving that child a good thrashing (i.e., beating on the buttocks, legs, arms and back) and creating an even greater noise.

i am not a parent, but over the years of observing parents - and others - hitting children both inside and outside the kingdom hall, it slowly occurred to me just what a barbaric practice this was.

I often thought that children who grew up being beaten at the KH probably grew up relating pain and punishment to being at the KH. So instead of warm fuzzy feelings they probably grew up to resent the whole deal. It's much like shunning. For some reason we were all lead to believe that punishing a person by shunning them was something that was beneficial to them, but in most cases it just drives them further away from wanting to have anything to do with the WT religion. I always had problems with people hitting their children. It only makes sense that those who grow up being hit are going to think it is OK to hit too. In my opinion there are better and more humane ways to teach your children to behave.

Christians (only JWs) wear Jesus, as it were, like a garment.

strange and untrue sentence. I have actually talked to people of other religions (non-Christian) that seem to have more of a spiritual Christ-like air about them than most of the JWs I have ever met...but maybe that was just the demonzzz making it appear that way....

yep, remember this one too--think it was in the live forever book--this one under the title of "seeking your mates pleasure" (servicing your mate) I had the first copy of the book which showed this woman only she was posing seductively in a robe....But suppose there were complaints about that one in WT land, so they came up with this picture, plaid skirt and all. Do you think the guy having his thumb in his pocket here is an indication that this guy is about to get frisky or what? and what is this woman thinking ? the WT leaves a lot up to the imagination ...

Declining Meeting Attendance-CO visit

so we have our circuit overseer this week.

we're getting the crap kicked out of us (figuratively) for our meeting attendance.

we have attendance in the 70% range for some of our meetings.

It just struck me when reading this how very anal the JWs are about counting those at the meetings. One time when I was sick with a cough (which I probably caught from sitting near another coughing JW at the meeting the week before--sick or not people had to come to the meetings!) I sat out in the car in the KH and listened over the meeting over the radio. It was the Thurs night meeting and an elder came outside and shined a flashlight around in the cars to see if anyone was outside to be counted (we had very low attendance) and there were a couple of people with chronic illnesses who sat out in their cars sometimes. He didn't seem concerned as to why we were out there, nor did he ask about my well being--he was just glad I was there for the head count. JWs are totally hung up on the number things--number of those attending meetings, numbers of hours in the field service....etc....

How frustrating for you. How sad that this religion comes between natural family bonds. I hope you make it work somehow.

Maybe going over all this process with you Dad will make him think. He knows how much you care about the family to be making the effort you are. Maybe he will see through it all in the process. the best to you all.

i was talking with someone i work with who is a jw and suggested i might look into it.

Wel, all I can say is to ask a bunch of questions now because you won't be able to later...After you join up it is just listen and obey and don't question anything even if you see things that are horribly wrong. I questioned and that is why I am not a JW any longer today

you could ask them...

Why if the bible says to love your neighbor as yourself--why are you not supposed to even associate with your neigbors and actually consider them as wicked? (this also applies to your relatives)

why will god destroy every one on earth except JWs even if they are good people? (including children and babies).

there are a lot of other questions you could ask too--maybe a few others have some suggestions...

WTS Official Spin on monthly Awake: 'More emphasis on the Bible!'

the march 2005 kingdom ministry brings up a full article about the awake only being published once a month, starting january 2006. .

but the fun thing is the roundabout way this change is announced.

knowing that the news would be a bitter pill to swallow (there should be a 'speeding up' of the preaching work, not a downsizing), the watchtower only announces the move to monthly publishing by the end of the article.

I know I wasn't the only one who felt that the Awake was the best one to place out in field service. I wouldn't even place the WT with most people--much of the time it was just too heavy and judgemental and too hard for the general public to make any sense of, and if you did ever get a return visit you usually put the Awake on the top of the pile and slipped the WT underneath just so you could place it somewhere (or pawn it off on some unexpecting householder). So going on in FS will be even more burdensome for the JW already on the edge. I am sure that many are groaning to themselves about this.

Another thought popped into my head this afternoon in regard to searching the origins of the WT religion. It isn't hard to find a lot of the info, as most of it is it is in the WT publications.

OK, then so why were we not supposed to have any contact with any sort of other religion or be involved with any sort of holiday? The WT answer was because all other religions are false of course, but as far as holidays we were to avoid them because they all stemmed from false religion or worship--their origins being steeped in falsehood--correct?

But what about the WTs origins? The WT is steeped in falsehoods and the origins of its teachings are very much pagan and downright strange (Charles Russell and the measuring of the pyramids and such).

So how would a strong JW answer this question. If the WTs origins are pagan and its teachings stem from falsehoods are they not the same as any of the other religions?

Just because the JWs do not hold the key to the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean that there isn't one. I still think there is some pretty amazing and interesting stuff going on out there and we are all a part of it whatever it is. Read the book "The Field--the request for the secret force of the universe" by McTaggart or see the movie "What the bleep do you know?"

I still at times feel ripped off by the whole JW doctrine, but I guess it is live and learn on that one. I most definitely learned what I do not believe is true in this life. As far as what I believe now...I still believe in something...I think it is OK to believe and be awe inspired without having a bunch of judgemental doctrine attached to it. Yeh, but sometimes the funk sets in, so sorry you are dealing with that right now.
