I've discovered that there is no point in me being here. I've moved on. I've been out for eight years. This board serves a great purpose for those freshly out of the WTS cult -- wish I'd had something like this back in '96. Anyway, I'm moving on. This is my last post. Bye to anyone here who liked me.

Would you ever shun?
by ozziepost ini was asked that question today, or words just like it, is it ever right for a christian to shun?.
don't the scriptures instruct it?.
well, what would your answer be?

If a person was a Jehovah's Witness and had multiple-personality disorder, couldn't they techinically shun themself?
I guess that doesn't seem very practical, nevermind.

South Park & Kid Rock

the special olympics on steroids one.
it was great all around.

Yeah the NAMBLA one was beyond hilarious. Especially the scene when they convince "butters" to take one for the team!
And really who in their right mind would have thought of the North American Marlon Brandon Look Alikes? Pure genius.
As for Kid Rock, never saw a truer tard if ever I did see one.

The Passion Christian Hype is Making Me Sick--Thoughts
by blacksheep ini've seen the passion.
thought i'd be moved.
it supposedly has changed people's lives, caused them to confess sins (actually turned themselves in as criminals), etc.. please, can you explain to me why shindler's list didn't inspire such actions?

Okay, here's my stupid take on it. I regard film as art, or an art form. And I simply see the film as that. In that sense it is extraordinary. If the cinematography alone doesn't winner an Oscar or Golden Globe then something is seriously wrong.
As for people being converted by the movie, it is a highly emotional piece of film and I'm not surprised that it would have that effect on people of weak character and or highly emotive personalities.
As for the violence, I can accept that, too. I believe art should reflect reality. Would Schindler's List have been as powerful without the violence? Would the Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan be the same without the violence? No. So for this art form, film, to be true to its subject sometimes it has to be brutal.
If you want a parallel in the realm of more traditional art I'd refer you to Picasso's Guernica -- it's a horrid landscape of pain and suffering because that's the only way the artist could convey the reality.
P.S. Maybe I should have prefaced this all by saying I believe that the freedom of speech and expression are absolute rights. If anyone is interested in reading an interesting take on the work of a censor, can I suggest you read Areopagitica by John Milton? Milton and I differ on some aspects of the need of a censor; it is worth reading.
I think this link has a free version you can read: http://www.bartleby.com/3/3/

When you left being a JW?
by Sassy indid you for a time think it was still the only true religion and that you were just condemned as long as you were out.
i read a comment by ghosthunter today that kind of echoed my feelings.
i know if i had never read the things i had read here, i'd still have left, for i did that before reading and learning, but i would have been out without the freedom from guilt and damnation.....

Nope, I left specifically because I realized it was all a crock of donkey dookie.

Indiana is a horrid wasteland! Avoid it at all cost. I kid you not. Seriously if Dante was going to describe a tenth level of hell, Virgil would just need to take him on a visit to Indiana.
In fact, I think you can pretty much just read Dante's Inferno and substitute Indiana for Lucifer in Canto 34. Indiana's three wings send forth freezing blasts of impotence, ignorance and hatred!

Smashed emotions? I prefer mashed emotions, at least then you can melt a little butter on them, maybe put a little gravy on them and all you have to worry about is the occasional lump.
Fried emotions are good too, but they're so salty and they go straight to your thighs!

Awesome! We don't need no darn inalienable rights. Let's just keep blotting out clauses in the Constitution. I'm sure we can trim a few off the Bill of Rights, right? After all we all know our government would never do anything wrong! In fact, let?s just rip up the Constitution and give John Ashcroft and George Bush free reign to do whatever they want ? oh wait we already did that, it was called the Patriot Act.
In another thread, a poster inquired about interesting books to read, well one that's rather relevant: 1984 by George Orwell.
