  Achieving Salvation

  the other night, i had a couple of pastors over to try to answer some questions i had.

  they came prepared to "save me" and even tried to do so.

  tonight i bought a book that mentioned being saved by accepting the work of christ and asking jesus to save me.

  The other night, I had a couple of pastors over to try to answer some questions I had. They came prepared to "save me" and even tried to do so. Tonight I bought a book that mentioned being saved by accepting the work of Christ and asking Jesus to save me. It states that I would be "born again" and made a new person.

  Of course with my JW background I'm having a difficult time understanding being saved and having a difficult time accepting it.

  I just wondered what everyone's take on this is. Do you feel that this is a necessary process? Why does it have to be done in front of someone? Why isn't it just a personal process?

  It is also tough for me to accept achieving salvation through faith and not works..."faith without works is dead" keeps repeating over and over in my mind.....

  what is the most off the wall thing you've heard from a jw?.

  here is mine..... a month ago my dad (disassociated) gave me a dog named lucky.

  trying to get lucky used to his new home and new people we put him in a kennel when we would leave.

  He's doing better now.....My mother must have prayed for him...or me...probably both.

  Couldn't have anything to do with not locking him in the kennel or with us leaving him special treats when we leave.

  My dad's take on it : Lucky just has issues because his mother was a bitch. :)

  Here is mine....

  A month ago my dad (disassociated) gave me a dog named Lucky. Trying to get Lucky used to his new home and new people we put him in a kennel when we would leave. One evening after being gone for a few hours we came home to find blood all over his kennel. He had clawed the cage until his little nails were bleeding....after talking to my mother about it she told me that my dog was probably scared by the demons. She said his name was "bad" and that I needed to change it.

  Poor dog...turned out he was just having separation anxiety.....

  His name is still Lucky...:) (Just a little baby step for me. :)

  A question for former pioneers.

  everytime you go to an assembly or to a convention or the co pays a visit, there's always a call for people to pioneer.

  they always drag out a couple of pioneers on to the stage and "interview" them.

  the one question they always ask is if the pioneers have any regrets over pioneering.

  I regret that being my goal as a teenager in high school. I aux. pioneered in the summers and the only thing I planned to do with my life was reg. pioneer....I regret not trying to get scholarships and go away to school.

  JW &Your Health

  well, i guess this will be my first official question for all of you.....does the stress of the jw religon stemming from a background in it affect anyones health?.

  this may seems silly but just thinking about it and other religious options stresses me out.

  right now, just from thinking about this for an hour or so, i have a huge headache and am very tense and a little bit shaky.

  Well, I guess this will be my first official question for all of you.....Does the stress of the JW religon stemming from a background in it affect anyones health?

  This may seems silly but just thinking about it and other religious options stresses me out. Right now, just from thinking about this for an hour or so, I have a huge headache and am very tense and a little bit shaky.

  I remember when I was young, my father started having panic attacks. He was then unable to give talks without getting to the point of passing out. Consequently, they removed his ministerial duties (accounts) since of course what good was he if he couldn't give talks.....? The sad thing is he didn't know they were transfering this responsibility until it was announced at the meeting... I feel that his panic attacks were related to the pressure put on a person as a JW.

  Okay, I've gotten a little bit of track, but my question is, has anyone else experienced health problems that they feel are related to being or having been a JW?

  Wow. I'm actually feeling a little relief, just to find out that there are people out there who understand.

  I didn't sleep very well last night after the pastors left my house....I had so many questions for them, very few of which I actually got any kind of opinion on and certainly no answer to.

  I am looking forward to reading more posts and asking plenty of questions. Are the larger doctrines ever discussed on this message board? Just curious.

  Thanks everyone for the support.......

  One thing that I'm having the biggest problem with is that I've always had a close relationship with my mother. She is still a very active Witness, even a pioneer....I know she loves me and she truly believes this but it is tough hearing it all the time. I try not to be rude but I know that she will never stop trying to get me back.

  Last night my husband and I had two pastors over. I tried my hardest to be open to what the were saying. They even asked if they could "save me". I just couldn't let them. I felt so horrible for even allowing them in my house. I tried my best to just listen and be open but in the back of my head I could come up with dozens of scriptures to refute what they were telling me.

  I want to thank everyone again for being so understanding. My husband was raised a baptist and really even though he tries, he can never understand my struggles. My father has also left "the truth" and prefers to not think about it. He figures that the worst thing that could happen is that if the JW's happen to be right, he will just die and never awaken.

  Well, I could go on for hours with all of my confusion, but I'll stop here....thanks again for the understanding.

  I was raised as a JW until I turned 19 when I decided to stop attending the meetings. I just rathered not think about it for a few years. Now, I'm married and my husband and I are searching. I just don't know how to open my mind up to other options......actually I feel guilty just posting here..... Does anyone have suggestions? How do you learn to be accepting of other ideas?
