Why DO they stay?
by BugEye inthere is much discussion of the "dumbness" of those still in and the reason that they stay.. some of the reasons that i have seen are:.
they want everything in black and white.. they prefer to leave thinking to others.. they are scared to be shunned.. they are just ignorant souls who are on the "opium of the people".
they dont want others to think bad of them.. while i agree that there is no one single reason and that everyone is different, i feel that the real reason is a much deeper one.

I definately think many would do it!! If they did, being as that my mother is a member, who is 62 on Social Security, I would sue them so quickly their eyes would spin!!!! Stuff like that pisses me off majorly!!!!

Wow, what a story!! It brings back memories of how horrible i was as a JW, when I knew someone was going to be Df'd, waiting eagerly to hear it on the platform. It's a real shame now that I look back.
They are so cruel and insensitive. They hardly follow the God of Mercy and Loving-kindness.

I give you a wholehearted welcome to the board!!!! Don't worry you are not alone. I used to do the same thing when I was at the hall. For awhile, I went for my mother's sake, and I used to also bow my head and keep my eyes open just enough so I could see the carpet. I would then proceed to count the number of squares on my patch of carpet. If the prayer was really long, I would then look around to see how many chairs were missing those little caps on the tops of them. Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

having been raised "in the truth" post-1975, i didn't grow up with any specific year in mind.
yes, there was the notion of "this generation will by no means pass away," but by the time i was old enough to think about that concept, the people who were born in 1914 (to stretch it out as far as possible, as the society ultimately did) were still only in their 60's.

Interesting question. I am 19, and had it drilled into my head that I should be afraid of everything because Armaggedon would be just around the corner...but no one knew when because it would come "as a thief in the night" as the JW's say. When I was little, I used to be afraid to go to sleep, thinking that Armageddon was going to come while I was sleeping, and I was afraid of Armageddon. Anyway, I thought it would come before 2000. Well, here we are...so where is it?

on page 23 of the may 15th, 2001 watchtower, in an article entitled 'building a spiritually strong family' paragraph 9 says the following.. there are dozens of magazines, hundreds of books, and thousands of internet websites offering advice on how to rear children.
very often "the information conflicts" says a newsweek special issue on children.

I think that it all boils down to just one thing:
The bible warns us about judging others. The JW's say that they are the ones with the truth, and everyone else is wrong. That's being judgemental, isn't it? Everyone believes they have the truth, and really no one knows who does. So we just have to wait and see when Jehovah decides it's time to give us the answer. I think many people, especially the JW's will be suprised.
